Thanks for listening to the song and giving your thoughts.
The phrases "Alle haben Angst vorm schwarzen Mann." and "Wer hat Angst vorm schwarzen Mann?" meaning "Everyone is afraid of the Bogeyman." and "Who is afraid of the Bogeyman?" The Bogeyman being an evil entity that's been used to scare kids who don't behave. The phrase "Who is afraid of the Bogeyman?" is also part of a kids game that's similar to playing tag. But as you know the literal translation of "schwarzer Mann" is "black man" but it's originally not about skin color or race. Schwarz (black) refers to something dark and sinister. But it could have a double meaning so that "Bogeyman" and "black man" are the same, meaning people are afraid of different/foreign countries, cultures and peoples.
My interpretation of the video is that the Bogeyman is the media and politicians themselves or he is a creation of them. They use whatever is topical and form it into a Bogeyman for the people. Media (TV, computer) is creating and spreading the fear and the politicians/government (cheerleaders) fuel that fear and are cheering it on while seemingly providing the solution or cure against the fear. Providing the putative safety. They're giving isolation (bricks), violence (guns) and surveillance (cameras) to the people and are selling it as "safety".
And the figures playing the instruments might represent lobbyism. They're wired and the wires go from their mouths over their heads back to the speaker's desk and stretcher where the crazed man is. The figures (lobbyists) are telling the crazed man (politician) what to say which is then broadcasted by the media into people's minds via TV/computer.
At the end Till (the lead singer) is destroying the TV, breaking free of the influence of the media and politicians. Calmness and bliss (color) return to their lives. Could also refer to the saying "ignorance is bliss", because they don't want to see people of other countries (the mother and her child) suffering therefore he is destroying the TV.

Hi guys! Nice reaction and analysis, you dod your best to find the meaning... As it is often with Rammstein, there is a lot of ambiguity here.
Generally, the "Schwarzen Mann" does not mean just "black man", it's rather like bogeyman. A non-existant person that is very evil and will kidnap the kids which don't follow parents' orders. We are grown i fear since the earliest years, and this fear is always with us. Once this are immigrants (just like these two black women), other time it is increased crime rate, then covid, than anything. Mad politicians are feeding us with that fear with use of media, so we evolve from peaceful people into paranoic panickers watching their reinforced doors with hand on guns.

As a german, the perspective is a bit different. The 'schwarzer man' doesn't really represent black people, its just an expression of unknown evil or bad. The song is obviously about media propagating fear, the cheerleaders hinting more toward social media (tik tok). The fear/racism is more aimed toward middle eastern people and refugees from places like syria and goes somewhat both ways, as the refugees are shown angry 'europeans', with a way bigger focus on the western side as the 'refugees' are represented as surrounded by razor wire/pose no actual threat. In germany the fear propagated is not found in tv, moreso in conspiracy/anti-corona/racist/qanon/delusional groups on telegram. They claim stuff like germany is a corporation run by the USA and dumb stuff like that. Thats the divide we have seen in the last years in germany, crazy people comig together from the more extreme of both sides of the political spectrum and radicalizing in fear of 'the elites' and refugees. In my opinion the song is therefore from a german perspective about people going off the deep end in that direction with people like Micheal Wendler and Attila Hildmann.

Oh man, you're doing exactly what the video is about: Projecting you're own Angst onto enemy stereotypes that come to pass to help you rationalize you're own fears and uncertainties that are constantly fed by media outlets (official and alternative all the same). And if you do not recognize the massive propaganda coming from Mainstream alone, well, that's the fine art of Propaganda - like well done SFX in Movies : You take it for granted cause you don't even recognize it anymore...the song is called ANGST (I also have GERMAN ANGST in my mind) not "Black Man/Boogeyman" and Fear is the main instrument to keep the population within certain boundaries to steer them in whatever direction the rulers of all time wanted them to go- even back to ancient times (the Romans were also very good at it -was already part of their political/millitary system)...we the average ppl (incl. refugess btw.), no matter if western, eastern, no matter which race , religion, politics, cultural background are all on the same side here...pawns on the geopolitical chessboard, useful idiots, cannon fodder...as we've always been. The difference for Western Folks ? Well, we've been fed with consumption, them belly full, numb and self-indulged, to keep us calm, spoiled and meaningless - "first comes the grub than the morale" like Berthold Brecht said...(Peter hat die Hupe aber anscheinend noch nicht gehört)

Hi There from Germany🙂As German is my mother tongue, I´d want to reconfirm that this song is not primarily abaut race conflicts. We still use the term "afraid of the black man" in some childrens games; however, not a single person assiociate this term to a "dark-colored person". "Black" simply means "evil". So the song is more about the Fear of everething - yes, everything - that other people - especially the government, interest groups and so on - try to put into your brains.... might be "corona"... might be the russian/ukraine war.. might be the exploding prices on food.... and so on. Now my apologies for my poor english/american, as I said, German is my mother tongue. CHEERS🙂

The band's Keyboardist was asked about the contents of the new album before its release. Here is his answer.
"As for content issues, keyboarder continued: "Our theme is basically the craziness of people, and it is not much different in Corona times than in normal times. So Donald Trump was also very present last year, there you could also take a lot of traits, and from the people in general, how they behaved in the lockdown. So the sources of inspiration are actually always there. Most of the things you deal with take place in your own head in the end anyway. There are just little impulses coming from outside, and there's enough coming through even when the streets are only half as full."
You may also have noticed the similarity of Till's character behind the lectern.

To be honest, I don't know enough about Rammstein as far as their song writing process. Their talents are undeniable for sure. Tool is an experience. Time signature changes, emotional rants and the rollercoaster of power chords and melodic harmonies are enough to scare the shit out of my senses and give me a hug at the same time. Rammstein does that too I'll gladly admit...... but not like TOOL. Imagine seeing them both live! 🤯
When you say Rammstein invented the genre, what do you mean? What genre would you call it? I get lost in all these metal genres I don't understand where the names come from. It's rock, metal, heavy metal, and thrash in my eyes. I would think that would sum it all up but..... no, thats just not the case anymore. There are all these "core" bands now. What the hell does that mean? I really don't get it.

    • @user-wh6sp6st8s
      @user-wh6sp6st8s Před rokem +1

@@darkonation this "genre" has many names. I believe Rammstein called it Nu Deutsche Harte. I call it German Industrial. They've been together since the early 90s and they won a contest recording their song under blankets to try to keep the volume down because it was just after the wall had been torn down in Berlin. Needless to say they won their little battle of the bands thing and they crowned them the inventors of a new genre. No one previously had ever done what they put together.
Bands like them simply..didnt exist before them. Now, there are bands like Eisbrecher, with the deep vocals and hard riffs (great sound on the more industrial side to me but still banging)
Stahlmann (if you listen to their song Stahlmann, you can hear the influence of rammstein all over it) They also have a song called Der Schmeid which reminds me of Sonne by Rammstein.
Unheilig is another band trying to be them..different and not as heavy but still. Megaherz, Oomph!, among others were birthed out of the Rammstein example.
There are many imitators nowadays..but none of them have a Till. Greatest front man in history of music in my opinion. Fucker should win Grammy and Oscars for the shit they do.

Looking different intensifies this stereotype even more. Thats why they choose black. Also, the sweets they eat in the end scene are well known in germany, in former times they where called "N*-word kisses" because theyre made out of dark chocolate. Neger isn't the same as "n..igger", while latter was always negativly used, the rassist connotation of former word is relativly new most likely due to the stronger influence of the american culture (the rassist meaninger of N..igger rubbed of on the german Neger). More so with the old fashioned word "Mohr".
Because you use someone who's seen as inferior for your coat of arms, for your saints (black madonna or the "Mohrenkönig" of the holy three kings), you name streets, hotels and farmacies after them... Yeah, right...
Or take "Die Geschichte von den schwarzen Buben" aus "Struwelpeter" one of the most important german children books.
