Love your channel. It helped me and others around me more times than I can count this year. Looking forward to future videos.
I'll tell you a story from when I was a kid working at an outdoor rink before I was in a real rink, before I decided I was going to make ice as a career. So that rink we had shovels and hoses, that was basically all the equipment we had, and this man walked up to me in amazement and was super curious... he asked me, "I've always wondered... how on earth do you guys make this huge piece of ice... so flat??"
My response was simple, "Gravity man.... gravity"
    Cheers bud, stay safe!

How much ice do you usually shave off in between periods during a high competition hockey game?
Go Leafs Go and Go Warriors Go !

I think that depends on how much ice you have...
At our NHL building the guys take off 3/4-full bucket for each machine.
The rec rink we will do 3/4 full but it depends on: how much ice we have, what other programing that day will be, and how well the ice is holding up.
If it's one practice or game and it's freezing slow, I'll shave more with less water so it freezes quick. Last weekend we had a bunch of tryouts and were thin. So I took 1/4-half a bucket and put down 2/3 a tank of water. It was freezing fast and I made sure we utilized all 15 mins to let it freeze. The ice came out just as well as if I had shaved off more.
Ideally we would build Monday-Thurs so we can cut more over the weekend, but some of the drivers take off too much too often and one of our rinks I believe has a 1/2 inch slope as the lobby end is usually 1/2 lower than the Zam end of the rink.

People think multipurpose arenas melt the ice for every non hockey event and the basketball court is under the ice.

I kinda know what you’re talking about. I’ve seen some machines have them backwards in pics

Ours, they point to each other when closed. On open the hot is forward and the wash(cold) is back. So when I open up the wash I literally backward it. Counter is open, clockwise is closed on both.
