When have you ever heard that will of the people when it comes to gov policies was even considered, let alone listened to? It’s just about never. Whatever the desire of the ruling elite is what is appears on policies (e.g. billion$ of funding always goes to wars and the military, hardly ever on education, infrastructure, healthcare that benefit the working people). As a Chinese person myself, I can say that the Chinese government is certainly helping the African nations in exchange for something political (that the peoples of both Africa and China would not know). Maybe it’s simply for political alliance, or maybe it’s some other more specific political/economic policies and deals.
But whatever those politicians do, I hope the African people are never harmed in the process. I hope it creates a win-win situation and brings prosperity back to Africa’s great continent.

The Chinese are there to do business - they offer what they have, i.e. infrastructure construction, factories, technical training, for what they want - minerals, oils, other raw materials etc. it is a trade, which benefits both parties (of course there is possible ripoff, but business anyways) and not the so-called aid with political agenda behind it.

It's the USA that's constantly making threats, imposing sanctions no other country supports and interfering in other countries affairs.
China already has considerable investments around the world, including the USA, so a war isn't something they need to expand their earnings. It is clear that the government controls some things, and at least there are not many people in China who are encouraged by the Western government to go to the revolution and civil war. You must know that if China becomes a multi-party, fully democratic country, the US or Western governments can arbitrarily support a political party to operate Chinese politics. I am surprised that there isn't significant geothermal electricity production in China. There must be volcanic activity somewhere in China. It works very well when you have the right location.
China also has many many biogas digesters that are turning manure into natural gas.
Pretty much if it can be done then it is happening in China in a big way!
One thing that blew my mind while visiting Sichuan is the irrigation system that they have! Wow now that took some real forethought and loads and loads of hard work. It sure has made the land far far more fertile though!

I checked the Chinese materials. Since the 1970s, 12 geothermal power stations have been built in mainland China. However, due to some reasons such as operation and benefits, only three power stations are still in operation, two of which are located in Tibet. A power station is located in Hebei near Beijing.
The above three currently have a total installed capacity of 27.28MW, ranking 18th in the world (2014). In China's thirteenth “five-year plan”, it is expected to increase the installed capacity to 500MW (2020), but there are related people. Indicates that there is difficulty in achieving this goal.
At present, the slow development of geothermal power generation in China is mainly due to the limited technical level, and it is hoped that it will cooperate more with the Nordic countries in the future. (The above is translated by Google, I hope I can express it clearly)

Even my home country of Somalia has only 15 million and no leader could have managed anything for 60 years (coz US/EU have a finger in every pie). I admire how a government can rule whole of China in harmony, develop all infrastructure, improve education and lift almost a billion out of poverty. It is no easy task, but needs good honest & dedicated leaders to achieve such vision. The west hates China because they wanted it to be corrupt like Africa (colonial playground).

I have always admired the Chinese for their developed "what's best for all" mentality over the centuries and mellennials. Like every developing civilization the begining always starts off violently due to "individual" interests as opposed to the "collective whole". The U.S. is no difference if you take into account the Revolutionary War of the 1700's, the U.S. Civil-War in the 1860's. The biggest difference between China and the U.S. is the "lessons learned" and applied for a more "perfect union for the collective whole"! Unfortunately, the U.S. has a mindset that is quite the opposite and obvious by its declining civility "within" its own borders and evident internationally by other developing nations which is chosing China's "built and road" initiative to whatever the U.S. is offering, basically the "same old soup reheated over and again"! Lastly, the most obvious comparison of "lessons learned" is the duration in which a nation can exist under its evolving governing principals, China 4000+ years United States not yet 250 years!

While on the other hand, nuclear seems to be the only clean source (so far) to have both high capacity & stable output, thus less depended on storage like solar panels do. Guess nuclear will take a position in the jigsaw of energy solution.

If the numbers are right here, it sounds like all the installed solar capacity of the nation (and it's a lot!) still comes out to maybe the output of a single dam or a row of wind turbines.... Much though we love the solar power, it's unfortunately very tenuous.... I guess it gives people something to do, way out there in the desert? I was really surprised at the "dry" cooling tower, which I've never heard of. So, if you want people to move to the desert, offer them cheap electricity!
