What about the engine?
It’s a Yanmar 30hp which is big for this smaller boat. It only has 200hrs on it as well… and somehow we managed to forget to pop the hood on it. Good catch!! Thanks
@@YachtHunters Thank you Sir. What an honor to speak to you. I love your videos of you and Rande. You are funny and very wise. All the best and greetings from Germany. Would love to buy the boat but travel is still restricted because I don´t took the jab. Again, all the best.

Best of luck for you finding your Perfect Boat!
Told my dad it’s not for rich folk no more, and he said, “show me”. Showed him this video and he’s a believer now lol
I sailed over 5 hours on a Paceship 26 this week. She's 26 feet. So you can't expect extreme speeds and the wind was good for a while then almost disappeared. We couldn't catch the 32's and 34's. But we stayed with them under both wind conditions. Yes, they were just a bit faster. In 10 NM, they might have gained 300 yds on us. She's a nice boat. And this one looks very well maintained.
Cap'n & Randy, you've earned yourselves another subscriber.
One thing: I'm not mad that the Cap'n has an encyclopedic knowledge about boats. I'm not even mad that he's got the charm and can still climb the ladders with ease. I'm furious that he's got more style than me. The red/green suspenders are awesome and timeless and I've burned my entire wardrobe in protest. Keep up the great work, and keep these awesome tutorials coming! Cheers from Brooklyn, NY!
We’re working on getting the dodgers back as well
Somebody is going to get a killer good deal at that price. 💥
Love that it had davits and a 30 H.P. motor on a 26ft boat.
Congratulations gentlemen on a very nice pocket cruiser. That is enormous on the inside for 26 feet. At that price it's now or never for some young couple to get their feet wet, so to speak, and enter the world of sailing. Be well .
Let’s hope it’s just the toes that get wet when you dip them over the leeward rail… cheers FF!!
$6900 for a 39 rated small cruising is an unbelievable value. Thank you Captain and RanDay for finding another gem. I am surprised that you didn't have a SOLD banner floating by at the end of the video. Take care gentlemen.
Our pleasure! We agree! Thanks Matt
Well, this is easily your best episode as that is the same boat as I have owned for over 3 yrs now. Many details have been pleasant surprises since I bought her, and I still have no idea how she is faster than others on the water as well. I have never seen a better design for the length yet.
You might be slightly biased! 😉 Ray Hunt/Jihn Deknatel knew how to draw up a fast design. Congrats on owning a really great boat 👍
This is more my speed. I really enjoyed this vessel and tour. Thanks for sharing. 🌞🌴⛵️
What a great episode and a terrific boat! I looked at a Paceship 23 a few years ago and was very surprised at how much boat is was! I ended up with a Precision 21 which has been just amazing. Keep up the great work and thanks for the chuckles in between the superb information! Cheers from NH!
One of the most best built boats of this stature. Built for battle.
I had a Pace ship 23. It was the biggest little boat. I loved it and wouldn't hesitate to own another.
Great to have an owner endorsement… seems like a fantastic bang for the buck!
Good to have the team back , even on a Friday.
Thanks, Rick! Cheers to you
I believe the fitting on the tiller was not for a tiller pilot but for the tiller extension handle that was in the cockpit locker. My boat had one just like it.
Or both. The answer would be whether there is a socket to the side for the other end of the autopilot.
The autopilot can be seen in the v berth on the port ledge. 21:20
Captain Q, you and Sea Dog would give Fred and Ginger a run for their money in a dancing competition, you two are light on your feet and dance with style and grace. 😂LOL
We’re thinking about some upcoming ballroom competitions… 😂
"Is this boat moving?" Captain Q's been at the Freixenet again.
That's a pretty great pocket cruiser. Maybe not as bomb-proof as a Bristol or a Cape Dory, but you'll get there faster with that fin keel and blade rudder. Paceship had a decent reputation for quality of construction, as I recall. And $6900? That's early 70's money! I agree, this boat is a fantastic bargain, assuming no major invisible issues. You're absolutely right: someone needs to run, not walk to check this boat out and buy it. What a great opportunity.
Great to have the Captain back!
This would have been the boat I would have jumped on. Its perfect! I would have traveled the Caribbean. This piece is spot on. Unfortunately I'm in a situation where I'm stuck on land for the time being. Great find guys! Great find for those on a strict budget but are ready to go. 2-3 weeks worth of work...boom you are out and about!
glad to keep you inspired.... just have to have the right timing to make it happen. cheers!
Thoroughly enjoyable episode Capt, sail on.
AHOY I'm a new subscriber and really enjoy your boat tours ! ! Between the Captain and Randay your boat knowledge is A+ ! ! In today's tour I really enjoyed the Captains "Red Green " suspenders ! ! Fair weather and smooth sailing ! !
Nothing like the joy of waking up on the hook in yourown boat! You're on your way
You got that right! 👍👍
Captain great to see you back..
Raced on one of these for several years. The one we had used an outboard. That inboard is *way* more power than needed haha. Great boat, and a crazy price.
Cool… did you get some good results?
@@YachtHunters TBH, we were mid-table most weekends. with an occasional top 3. But having raced for 20+ years on all manner of boats, it was far and away the most fun crew I ever sailed with 🙂.
That locker where the shower resides is a clue to the outboard option. It is not enclosed, but rather has the wooden grate on its face, to be used as a well-ventilated locker for gas cans.
I have a 28ft Irwin. This boat sinks mine! LOL. Though I've put a LOT of thousands in mine, too! But guys, it's time for me to sell it. My back is not as young as it used to be. Therefore I can't take her out alone. I'd live to have this boat though. It's beautiful, but I'd have the same problem. There's just not enough people around here that go sailing. Which is a crying shame. Super Video! Good to See Ya Captain Q! 🙏❤️🇺🇸⛵️👍
Maybe some other viewers of ours will speak up and crew for you?!?!
@@YachtHunters that would be nice. Or, offer to take it off my hands.
@@melinda5777 what body of water do you normally sail on? If it’s close enough I would be willing to help you go out.
Great episode. Saturday is the new Thursday! When I was a young kid in the early 80's I did a ten day cruise on a PY 23 in Long Island Sound. Kneeling headroom only and a briefcase porta potty. We got all the way through the Race and it felt like an ocean crossing. Back then then the PY 26 seemed large...but nothing compared to the first time I went aboard a Catalina 30. When Tanza built them they included an all teak interior and teak and holly sole...incredible for a 26 footer. Back in the day most people started off on smaller boats to build their skills. Great memories and simple!
What a great little 26 footer. I have seen a couple for sale down here in Florida and wondered what was their story. Great episode.
Would make a nice little FL pocket cruiser… not too much teak to get sizzled in the sun. Cheers, Louis!
She's a beauty Skipper. Blessings to all.
Thank you, mike
Heck, my son-in-law bought a Paceship 23 for $500 a few years ago. It wasn't in that good of shape but it did float so it's gets 10 points. Please let me know if there is anything I can put in my wife's coffee in the morning that will make her want to get on the water. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
Maybe try sunset shots over the ocean… a few pics of dolphins and whales splashing around … a rum cocktail or Prosecco photo from the cockpit might slowly sway her?
Love your channel. I was really thrilled by the Grampian 26, as I have one. All the best from Ontario Canada
that was one of the best deals we've shown.. lovely Canadian craft ;)
That is one beautiful yacht
Yall have some of the very best content. Educational, and all these boats will be very useful when it comes time to escape zombies
We’re planning like they are on their way… time to provision!
This may be my favorite review of all of your finds. Wish I was 20 years younger and on the water! Thanks for feeding my dreams.
Bob Jenkins 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you. Wonderful little boat.
Love you Capt Q and crew!
Thanks so much! ❤️
$75,000 invested in a 5 year period from 2007 to 2012. Now yours for only $6,900. Less than 10 cents on the dollar. There is a lot of information in that for the person just getting into boating. Having said that, this is a nice boat and should provide a lot of happy days for next owners.
❤🎉5 🌟 for sure.
Another scotch and I will buy It🎉🎉🎉😊
😂
Loved the Paceships back in the day. My family had a Chrysler 26 the Halsey Herreschof design. Board up keel/ centerboard design was crazy fast off the wind. Build quality so-so but so much better than other 70s trailer sailors.
Very cool! thanks for sharing! cheers
Nice!..Enjoyed the history of of Paceship too….
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you
This yacht is exactly what im' looking for in a first yacht Captain. What a little beauty. Nice to see some Spring sunshine for you guys Great find
Thanks Andrew!
I own one of these awesome boats. For sale
Captain Q you are a quick witt. Grey or black water? “Depends on what you had for dinner”. The head with opening ports and hatch nearby. “That’s polite”. Had me rolling. 😂
I love you two, superb just never stop. The little yanmar would be perfect. Althougn this would be sailing most of the time.
And it’s not so little for this pocket craft 😉 thanks, much appreciated 👍
Man that’s an absolute steal! ❤❤❤
definitely looks like a really good deal
Wow, what a fantastic boat, I had an Oday 25 and now a Rhodes 22. I can't believe the engine size and headroom! Keel stepped mast, sheesh! Thats a very grown up 26'!
I also own an O'day 25. I am sure you saw a lot of similarities. Mine is the more popular centerboard version, and so the mast is deck-stepped for better trailerability.
Great way to put it… it’s grown up!
this is sold already, right?! this is the EXACT kind of boat/situation to get 'onboard' with. big thanks to the owner for putting this out there and making someones dream come true ;)
It was available as of yesterday so you never know… the broker could tell you if you’re interested. Cheers
I own one of these awesome boats. For sale
Nice cabin, Windlass, dodger, big yanmar motor. $4k more to recoat and minor repairs and you're sailing!
Thanks guys, for another great video!!
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching 👍
Nice find. An R. Hunt design... that explains some things. I initially thought it was an O'Day, it looks so similar.
Great job on the video. Love the description helpers!
Thanks! Glad you enjoy those!
Usually not one to comment but love your reviews. I purchased a ‘79 Paceship 26 in February and am currently getting it ready to drop in Lake Pepin in MN. Mine was a bit rougher but she’s a beast and that’s all being taken care of. For $2500 at the marina I planned to sail out of, I couldn’t pass it up. I grew up sailing an O’day 25 and the similarities are everywhere. But the 9’6 beam and 6’1 headroom makes the PY26 a much roomier boat. Can’t wait to get out and sail her this spring! Also, the aluminum slotted toe rail is a pretty dead giveaway that this is an American made AMF boat. The Canadian boats still had teak toe rails.
Great insight… hope you have a blast this spring! Thanks for the note!
That's a well taken care of boat! The story this video tells about the previous owners is very impressive! I hope they will only sell to a deserving new owner who will not neglect his or her duties.
Well said! Cheers Adma!
Entertaining and informative. I love these videos my friend! 😎
Thanks, Karen!
That headroom is great for a 26.
Agreed 👍
Thanks for this
It was very nice to tour this boat. I just happen to own a Paceship P2-20 which would be this boat's smaller sister.
I like mine because she's got a retractable keel and is easy to trailer to one or another of my local Finger Lakes here in central New York State. I also single hand my boat and it's not hard at all. However, mine does not have any fancy stuff on it. As a lake sailer I don't need radar although there are times when I wish I had a basic auto pilot.
My boat has no formal head, but has a spot designed to house a port-a-potty. It also has a small sink which includes a 3 gallon water reservoir. It's got a v-berth up front and has two quarter berths in the main cabin. They can be used as cushioned bench seats during the day. In fact my boat includes a "shelf" that, after being relocated, doubles as a small dining or chart table that mounts over the housing for the retractable keel. My boat's auxiliary power is a 4 hp Evenrude outboard which does just fine.
Nice reveal guys. Enjoy your production
Thanks so much!
"Depends what you had for dinner" quick wit !
😉😂
What a deal! My Ericson 25 cb doesn't even have standing headroom. And 30 hp to boot. This could sail around Block Island and Martha's Vineyard without issue.
With a water skier in tow! 😉
Wow, she was ❤❤ loved.
As far as mast preferences, I would go Deck stepped tabernacle and do the Great Loop in her.
Great day cruiser. It has systems of a much larger sailboat
Good to see you back, captain Q and Ran day look forward to more boats and videos. Great stuff from the UK.👍🇬🇧
Cheers, mark!
Wow, that’s the nicest Paceship 26 left on earth! 🤩 I always wondered where the Tanzer 27 got that tall cabin, my 22 is made for elves, it’s 4.5’ from sole to ceiling!
You will be limber from all the yoga and limbo sessions
Great little boat well thought out, form follows function .
Absolutely 👍
If it was 32 feet it would be perfect .
The one that friends owned was built in Mahone Bay Nova Scotia...it was fibreglass.
Very roomy. Looks like there might have been a quarter berth where the fridge was. For single handing or a couple you would almost certainly use that for storage anyway. Well cared for and lots of good things in this little cruiser. Thanks guys!
You are probably correct, though the aft end of that space is taken by the locker with the shower we saw in the cockpit.
I have a few years left before retirement. I picture myself and my dog and cat boarding this boat and attempting the loop. Should be able to sail most of the time, but fuel would be small like the boat. Definitly something I could handle by myself. And roomy for one with occasional friends.
It would be perfect for that… that’s a great vision… make it happen!
I own one of these awesome boats. For sale
Wow, that is a lot of turnkey boat for the money. If I were still looking I might be taking a road trip this weekend. Great to see a smaller boat. Thanks
You bet! thanks for watching. cheers
That boat with everything that it has on it at that price is definitely a steal...... The engine alone is worth the asking price...
Agreed… good point… and it’s only got 200hrs on it
Phrase of the day. "For a twenty-six footer." Anyone who still believes that sailing is a millionaire's pursuit. Only has to look at the fun and value this little boat offers. Amazing. For a twenty-six footer 😁
Great point! Also the carrying costs on a smaller boat really drop down to reasonable levels… the best advice is to “not wait” to go sailing. Cheers
I’ve had a 1978 Keel/centerboard model for 15yrs. It’s got a 8hp single cylinder yanmar which is original. I have no idea how you’d fit a 30 hp in that space, but if true I’m quite jealous! I’ve spent a lot of time on Wandering Star over the years she’s done everything I’ve ever asked and more. It’s a well built boat, 6900.00 is a great deal can’t go wrong.
wow.... 8hp seems reasonable for that size boat... unless you need to waterski behind it! Lovely to hear from an owner of one so thanks for stopping by!
What became Paceship started out as hot-molded wooden small craft for the RCN. That know-how came from the UK, from the Mosquito aircraft and such. When the seventies sailing boom came up, Paceship made sailboats from fibreglass in Nova Scotia. Then AMF wanted to make everything from bowling balls to sailboats. Therefore, they bought the molds from Paceship, and then made the same boat in the US. I am willing to be contradicted here, but that is my understanding of the history of Paceship.I own a Paceship, so this is why I know this,
Interesting… we’ll definitely take a look.. AMF gobbled up so much back then. Hope you are enjoying your paceship!
Michele Stevens sailmakers in Lunenburg has the patterns for all Paceship boats AFAIK. My Paceship has crisp Stevens sails. This is to say that, if you buy some old Paceship, Michele can cut new sails.
@@brentsutherland6385 Do you own this same model? I own a P2-20 (#16) that was made in December of '72 in Nova Scotia.
@@scyz2807 I have a P-17, but I am familiar with the P-20.
Ah man. Sure wish I had 6k right now! Hate being broke and having a desire to sail lol
Usually outboard engine but with a 15 inch prop she's a diesel. They are built like the proverbial sh!t house....they are fast, bulletproof, easy to maintain. I raced against them....against an 80 year old who could hold his own in it double handed. More than likely she was built in the US. They handle like a larger boat. To be honest , I think the C& C 27 is about the best starter boat out there, but I take this as a second. She'd hold her own if you got caught.
agreed!! well said, SV Odyssey!! cheers!
A guy had one of these Paceship 26es in the harbor on Mille Lacs Lake in central Minnesota where I slip my Precision 23. It was a shoal draft model and its name was Lite Brew. Judging by its skipper's belly it was the only lite brew he'd ever had. 😅
He was a good guy, and said he used to race it on Lake Pepin between WI and MN, and one time beat media mogul Stanley Hubbard. He was obviously very proud of having beaten a billionaire in a sailboat race.
Not the most aesthetically pleasing boat due to the extended freeboard, which is how it has all that headroom.
You are on the mark about O'Day similarities. It is very much like my 25. One point of caution about that scupper, which looks identical: It probably runs through a short hose to the transom. If that hose leaks, your scupper empties inside the boat. Getting back in there to check it might require some contortion, especially with a big engine and diesel tank under deck. I suspect any work under there might be a challenge.
Good point! There is a connection between that scupper and the transom thru-hull just in front of the rudder… it would be interesting to see if there’s a hose there… seems like almost too short of a run…
I have an O’day 25 and have the same problem with the scupper. A poor execution of a good idea. It took me many hours, epoxy and grinding to rework it into a serviceable system.
@@YachtHunters If it exits the scupper horizontally, it might be a long throughhull.
Just wonderful hearing you two gentlemen bouncing off each other…
Very nice, would of liked to see the engine room, nice boat. Thanks
Oops. It was unusually hot and sometimes we go brain dead in the sun. Check the listing there may be a still photo of it in there.
I have the center board model of this boat which the board is still stuck. The boat rocks very easily 😂 but its very roomy for a 26
I liked the segue from what sounded like the low notes of a sander to the buzz of a saxophone about 3:32!
$75,000 is all relative. Just last night I saw a TV commercial for Chevrolet Silverado pickup trucks. It sure looked impractical to me, little short bed and it was so high you'd need a catapult to load anything in it. Anyway, I was curious and checked the price of such a machine, $75,000 and it isn't even a diesel. I'd say the boat wins in that comparison.
Those yard guys didn’t stop their work in order for us to film… if you can believe that?!? 😉 yeah the big items are the engine and sails… some of the other electronics being 10 years old might have depreciated down from that $75k… but she’s nearly ready to splash in from what we see… just tidy up that keel and go. Thanks for the note!
@@YachtHunters Maybe those yard guys are grinding fiberglass to make payments on a Silverado pickup truck. That could make you mad at the world.
I quit my real job and moved to the beach way before I was allowed to. I worked with a guy that had an addiction to farming. I have done some farm work in my life but, I was able to walk away. He asked me why I liked the ocean. I said it's kind of like the feeling you can have for your land but, with land you always see something you need to work to change. The ocean you aren't going to change. When the worries of a boat get to you, it's just that tiny space on a huge ocean.
You are right about that sailboat. A little bit and you can go a long time and a long way. If the Martins, Dave and later Jaja and later Chris and later Holly can sail full time on a Cal 25, what is possible for this boat? Geez, Holly Martin has sailed to the other side of the world on a Grinde 27. I don't know how a Paceship 26 compares to a Grinde 27 but, I do believe I'd take the Paceship.
Woo hooo!
Wow .😮
I'd probably seriously look at this boat if it was in my country, thats so cheap for what you get. down here in Oz that boat would be a lot dearer even taking into account the $US V $Oz
Probably not worth it to ship... but maybe to sail it back home??? ;)
I would buy this boat in a second. Unfortunately, I live in San Diego and don't have time right now to sail her from there to here...
That would be a great trip… cheers, chuck!

When are you coming down to oriental North Carolina? The pamlico and Neuse River welcome you!
We’d love to road trip but no plans currently… too many boats in New England to get to first… but there’s good supply down your way! We need more days in the week 👍
@@YachtHunters well, there’s a nice hot bowl of dinty moore waiting for you on Sea Fever if you make it here.
My question is about the mast, in a small boat 🚤 wouldn’t it be better to have a deck stepped mast so the pole isn’t taking up so much room in the cabin?
That socket on the tiller may be for a tiller-extension/hiking stick, not auto-pilot. I see the extension was in the locker with the on-deck shower.
Good eye… there was definitely a fitting for a tiller extender but at the end of the tiller it seemed to be a pin for the auto pilot arm
@@YachtHunters Ah, I missed that! The fact that the socket that you pointed out was off center in the tiller (offset to starboard) sort of makes sense for a tiller-pilot (autopilot) more than for a hiking stick, since the tiller pilot usually does connect about that distance from rudder end of tiller. I’ll have to watch the video again, and look for the other socket. Always enjoy your sometimes humorous, always insightful reviews of these boats! Keep’em coming!

I love your videos. And in this one I love that Paceship? moved with the rest into fibreglass. And my comment? who, today is leading edge moving into carbon? please profile that. Make not only suprerb historic sailing vessel video's but please slip in the odd ultra modern cruising yacht world. What are the boat builders of today making the boats we'll see videos about 50 years down the road?
I saw 6.9 mil on the thumbnail and thought about skipping this one boys.
It’s nice but not THAT nice 😂
Good to see you are back.....If you bought this boat what would you do to make it so it could do long journeys? What would you add to it to make it more sea worthy? IM looking to go round the world on a boat? What would you suggest you would buy to make the journey? kind regards kevin
A Shannon or kraken
@@geraldhowse8597 LOL. For someone relatively experienced, this boat could certainly go around the world. There are many bigger, better, more well equipped boats for the inexperienced, but no doubt this could cross oceans safely.
To make the trip? Wind Hippie Sailing (YT) is doing a circumnavigation in a comparably sized boat with less than this one has. Sam Holmes as well. If I were going to do something like that in this boat, I'd be looking at fresh water and fuel tankage. I'd make sure the standing rigging was rock solid, or replace it. Probably replace all running rigging. Some sort of wind-vane self-steering. Given how small that rudder is, I'd honestly have another fabricated and stowed for back-up. The Paceship I raced back in the day snapped the rudder. It was all our fault, but the thing snapped in half right below the water line. Having a backup would be trivial. I might throw a little more battery on their, and then some sort of solar panel (there are already davits) or other generative device to keep the batteries topped up.
The crazy thing about this boat is everything I mentioned might clock in at $25,000(US) max. So, as someone else pointed out, a young couple with $30.000 could have an eminently sea-worthy boat with practically brand-new everything, cut-their teeth on a journey south to the Caribbean, and there is no limit from where to go next.
well said, Jeff! Wind vane steering would be tops on our list... as well as a solar panel or two... Jeff is spot on with the other items. cheers
Captain, Randay, the boat listed is different from the boat shown in this video. Yellow, no dingy davits, different equipment. Has the boat originally shown in this video already sold?
Yes.. it looks like YachtWorld redirects traffic to the sold listing automatically. This one is up in Toronto
Any Sabre sailboats to review?
We’re keeping our eye out! They tend to sell before we get to them!
