"Jeremiah 8:22 Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered? "
This verse speak about medicine (palm) and a doctor(physician). Though there are many doctors and medicines in this world, the Bible speaks about a doctor and medicine. That physician is our Lord Jesus and his blood is the real palm. If any one fall sick straight away if we go to Jesus, he is able to heal us.
" Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. "
Divine healing is an important doctrine. when Jesus was on this earth he healed many sick, raised the dead people. The power that preceded from him healed the sick. Jesus mentioned in his gospel divine healing is children's bread Matthew 15:26.
When people of Israel came near Marah, the water was bitter,but god healed the water and made it sweet. Then god gave them a statute and an ordinance that " I am the Lord that healeth thee". Some time when we fall sick we go to doctors they may heal through medicines.But our soul will not be healed. Though there are many reasons for our sickness, most of the sicknesses are due to our sin or inquities. Jesus was wounded for our transgressions and for our sicknesses Isaiah 53:5.If we get healing through medicine we may not get our iniquities forgiven. But when we fall sick, we have to examine our sins and confess to lord, his blood(palm) cleanse our sins, immediately we will be healed.This is called divine healing. If we want to understand it clearly, James gives very good COUNCEL,
"James 5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."
When Saint Paul was sick he prayed three times, but god said my grace is sufficient for thee. He enjoyed the power of god that was acting upon him. During our sickness when we fill in the spirit that also will quicken our mortal body.
Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
