    Thanks so much for these videos. I bought the component parts to make the flies and I'm getting it down. Ive had good luck with the fat head minnows on a 3 way rig but it would be nice to not deal with minnows.😊

    Great video, i just found your channel and subscribed, what is the rule of thumb you could recomend for the weight size as far as current and depth, i will try this flies technique on Monday for first time, please keep the informative videos coming, thank you!

      If you start with a 1oz weight and make a cast, you’ll be able to feel if you’re being carried by the flow too quickly and adjust up or down from there. Once you get the the back of the boat you want them to work in place while being gently swept around.

    Kinda looks like your anchored or spot locked on the slack water side, the Missouri river changes every year so I haven't had a chance to go out due to the weather to see how it changed from last year, cant wait, I tied up 10 sets, and rods are ready to go.

    Wondering if this system would work on the Saint Clair River? This river is half mile wide and depths from 6-40' deep and forms the border between Michigan and Canada 🇨🇦. We use an anchored technique with 2-3 minnow type plugs piggybacked, 3 way and 2-4 Oz. Sinker. Curious if your fly rig would work here. We have clear water conditions on this river too.

      I think you could whip these behind the boat and probably get away with slightly less weight since they have a lot less resistance than cranks. Little taps, let them drift back and cover some water. Give it a try!

    I understand technique of the twitching with the current with your great description. I'm limited to shore fishing on the Rock. Do you think I could cast to the channel into the current and still apply this method? Thanks very much.

    • @joeokada
      @joeokada  Před 2 měsíci

      Absolutely. It’s one of the best ways to fish from shore on that river. Good luck out there!

    How deep is this effective?

    • @joeokada
      @joeokada  Před 3 měsíci

      I usually stay under 20’ but you can play with weights to fish as deep as you need.

    • @RSnyder-vx8li
      @RSnyder-vx8li Před 2 měsíci

      I do a minnow plug technique with a 3 way and dropper of 3 Oz. Sinker. The minnow plugs are piggybacked behind each other with 10' leaders...2-3 plugs working in current from an anchored boat in 20'- 35' of water. This rig is jerked an arms sweep upstream and followed back to bottom. Line is freespooled downstream at 10- 20' intervals with a line-couter reel. This method is called "whipping" and we use it on the Saint Clair River, Michigan. My question is could this fly technique you use work on a deeper, larger river with a faster current. The Saint Clair River flows between Lake Huron and Lake Saint Clair. This river can be 1/2 mile wide and is the border between Michigan and Canada 🇨🇦. Thanks for any advice as I think these flies might work well.
