I was thinking (independently) about if this type rig was effective for kuha (= zander) which is our localization of walleye here in Finland. Very similar fish, very good eating and maybe even similar habits. Great minds and so on... :) Must try. I have tried something we here call vertical jigging, but this I have not yet put into action. When I say vertical jigging, I mean really slick and relatively big jigs which are bounced typically at bottom or near bottom. Especially in the streams this type of fishing has been effective!
No, the flies don't get anything added to them. You can however use a jig as your dropshot weight to hit them high with the fly and low with the jig - that can be absolutely deadly 🤘

I like them but I tend to only get smaller eyes and saucers on them I get my bigger eye's on plastics
I’ve caught plenty of 25”+ eyes on flies
