      I think Coach Henes is doing a good job with her star talent, and I am looking forward to how she guides Tuohy in her junior and senior years.This year (2022) Kate has (as of September 10) the NCAA best times for the year at 1500 (4:06) and 5000 (15:14, which would have gotten 4th in this race.) Will they push to go sub-4:00 and sub-15:00, or just run and see where it goes? My bet is that Tuohy can continue to improve and possibly break Jenny Barringer Simpson's long-standing NCAA records. But, I think the key is to pace yourself and not to get greedy.

    • @listrahtes
      @listrahtes Před rokem +7

      Thats the myth but not the reason. 3 big reasons are there and a 4 for the time since 90s 1) professional english coaches started to implement high level training schedules and cast athletes 2) permanent high altitude training (thats why only a small part of Kenya is responsible for all the athletes 3) poverty This for most is the only chance out of poverty that includes coaches..etc Thats were your runnning to school comes into play. Thats why selection at youth level is so brutal and training load that a lot of athletes are left permanently injured and some make it to elite level 4) As it has been now revealed Kenya has systematic EPO doping everywhere . You get it in every pharmacy and sometimes when tests are to be done its comical how athletes react. Kenya is one of the few countries were near all are on PED regimes. No one wants to talk about it but thats the case. Still I have tremendous respecr for the athletes. Their training load is unreal and still difficult to handle

      Part of the problem of Brit commentary (and this is bias, I admit) is there is a prejudice in British broadcasting for the posh pronunciation, as well as, not just the manner of speaking, and by that I mean the natural language of the speaker, but their choice of the subject of their commentary.) 'She's brilliant, isn't she?' Well, maybe she isn't brilliant. Why don't you just say 'she's brilliant.? It's really a form of small talk that has been, if not enforced, strongly suggested as a style of Brit broadcasting identity, or marque. I find it very annoying, as a 74 year old university library administrator who is devoted to scrutinizing how other English speakers around the world approach the problem of making meaning, and the accompanying nuances of language crystal clear to their auditors. That's what sports announcing is all about. In USA track, that's why Norm Ogilvie is the best of the best.

      World Athletics implemented rules requiring women who were born intersex like Semenya to reduce their natural testosterone levels with testosterone suppressants in order to compete in the 400m, 800m and 1500m events. Semenya won't take the drugs, so she can no longer compete in the 800m event she used to be so dominant in and decided to switch to competing in the 5000 which does not have a testosterone suppressant requirement. She competed in the 5000m at the recent World Championships and didn't do so well there either.

      Since you mentioned her, World Athletics is a travesty for making Caster Semenya compete at longer distances where she's not competitive. Just because they think her masculine appearance makes it look bad if she wins a race. It wasn't her fault she was born with a rare genetic condition that made her develop more muscle and therefore look more masculine than other girls. Instead of making it all about T levels, so that males can decide to reduce their male hormone levels to compete as female. All this while Semenya and a few other naturally female athletes who appear close to the borderline, get harassed on at least an annual basis to prove their gender.

    Great job by Henes. And Semenya should not be in this race, period. Enough with this cultish nonsense. At least have a distinct category.

      She was born intersex not by choice and was assigned female, wont go into details, but its not a choice for her, we could have different categories for all power events based on naturally occuring hormone levels, and maybe height too, i think Usain Bolt had unfair advantage being so tall 🙂 Do you think this would happen to any US athletes or Uk for that matter,

      @@jennysmith8835-Yawn. The athlete in question is male for all intents and purposes. Not attacking anyone but it is a sideshow. There is a reason there is a ban in place for distances 1500m and below. Now it has to be extended. And the attempt to equate a categorical biological difference (male vs. female) with athletes being taller, etc. is just plain silly and tedious.

      @@icarus8471 perhaps you need to stretch your brain a little more, I was being facetious regarding Usain Bolt, but the majority of people do have a fixed idea of what constitutes an acceptable female form, Florence GJ was as powerfully developed and more muscular and " manly" than CS, but offset by her glam outfits, hair, nails, etc. Caster was born with female genitalia with internal gonads, she had to be assigned sex at birth, intersex at birth isn't that rare, and by the way if you are feeling tired then perhaps go to 😴,

      If you're referring to Semenya, she's not a trans woman, she's an _intersex_ woman, naturally born with different chromosomes.
