Fr. Mike zeroes in on Isaiah 5-6 today. He emphasizes the literary masterpiece of the parable of the vineyard in Isaiah 5 and how it represents the story of Israel. He also shows us how Isaiah 6 is full of rich symbolism that points to the sacred realities of the Mass. We are reminded that God is truly holy and deserving of our praise. Today's readings are Isaiah 5-6, Tobit 5-6, and Proverbs 10:1-4.
We hear every day from our community how The Bible in a Year helps to capture hearts and souls for Christ. While we’re happy to make it free to our audience, it’s not free to create! It takes a significant investment to produce the podcast and distribute it free-of-cost to the public. I don't know why but today my heart broke to think of all the times I have failed God and how wonderous it has been that he deemed me worthy of recovery and restoration. It is humbling, absolutely humbling to recognize that God values us to the point of crucifixion. I just keep running back into his arms and holding to God saying save me and teach me, lead me and correct me. It is all so beautiful and overwhelming.

Sometimes it seems that The Catholic Church has wandered away from the simple message of Jesus,God the Son.
But then as I’m going through this BIY study with you all, I am overcome with The Beautiful, Never Ending, and Unconditional love of God the Father, God the Son and God, the Holy Spirit. And I fall in love with the Catholic Church and the Holy Celebration of the Mass.

Isaiah and Tobit have quickly become my favorite books of the bible so far. Thank you Fr. Mike for your teachings and explanation of the origin of Holy, Holy, Holy and receiving the Eucharist. It not only brings more meaning to the interpretation of Isaiah, but also our prayer and worship in mass.

We need to be nourished by you, our source of life. Help us to never take for granted being in your holy presence. Transform and fill us when we receive the flame of your presence on our lips at communion, as you did with Isaiah. Show us how to live in peace, glorifying you with our lives. 💕🙏🏻

May your word take deep root in our hearts & transform our ways of thinking, discerning, and acting. Send us your Holy Spirit to give us the Spirit of Knowledge, that we may know God and know ourselves. Give us the grace to approach the Word of God with meekness & humility, & with an eagerness to do everything God desires. Help us to be diligent students & faithful disciples of your Word. May our hearts never grow dull & may our ears never tire of listening to your voice. Amen.

Fr. Mike, I am going through the BIY again, but this time while going through the CIY also. This episode had the light bulb over my head shining so brightly! The way you showed the connection with the Eucharist just had that WOW factor. Thank you so much!
I've read the Bible before, but I get bogged down a lot of times because I chase down every reference listed in the translation that I'm reading and then in all the other translations I have (I have multiples of some translations put together by different publishers/editors because they sometimes have different references). Let's face it, I'm OCD. But that's just how my mathematical brain works. I love your explanations. You are a gift from the Father! I pray for you.
I also wanted to tell you that last year when I was going through the BIY, my then 6 year old grandson started referring to you as the man that talks so fast. Our priests in Arkansas don't speak that fast.
God bless you and all who are a part of this ministry.

Please pray for Souls in Purgatory. Go ahead, just take about 30 seconds to help save a soul that maybe is your family member or friend! Go forth and help save! Here is the prayer:
(According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory.)
    The Prayer of St. Gertrude
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family.
Amen.
God would reply to St. Gertrude that He would use whatever was offered to Him for the faithful departed, according to His inclination to show pardon & mercy.

The TLM receives Jesus on the tounge while kneeling, as all Catholics should do. As a convert I had always received in my hands. Wondered why I always felt a bit uncomfortable doing that. Once I started attending Latin Mass, I realized I was receiving it wrong. Major Vatican II error. If I go to N.O. mass I still kneel and receive from the priest only.

In an article in America Magazine a Fr. Kevin Irwin of NY Diocese says that the Real Presence is The Christ or Jesus the Christ, after reading the article it's not hair-splitting to understand this distinction, especially in the light of the Arian schism that plays out in Transubstantiation vs consubstantiation AND the beliefs of Islam and Judaism relative to The Savior.

I REALLY need someone's help. In this anti-children world we live in today, why has the Church omitted Tobias 6:17-22 as it was written in the Douay Rheims Bible that the Church had used for centuries before these newer, modern bibles? This isn't literalistic and contextual stuff, rather things have been completely removed. Please help! Thanks.

There are so many changes in the newer bibles that I wish they could return to older translations. The ones that upset me the most is when they change the words that are in well know prayers. I.e. Changing Luke 1:28 from And he came to her and said, “Hail, full of grace,[e] the Lord is with you!” to And he came to her and said, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.”. This helps to hide the scriptural basis of the Hail Mary. Newer bibles will leave you wondering why it is called the Magnificat too. I could go on....
But for those that are wondering what was omitted here it is. It is beautiful.
[16] Then the angel Raphael said to him: Hear me, and I will shew thee who they are, over whom the devil can prevail. [17] For they who in such manner receive matrimony, as to shut out God from themselves, and from their mind, and to give themselves to their lust, as the horse and mule, which have not understanding, over them the devil hath power. [18] But thou when thou shalt take her, go into the chamber, and for three days keep thyself continent from her, and give thyself to nothing else but to prayers with her. [19] And on that night lay the liver of the fish on the fire, and the devil shall be driven away. [20] But the second night thou shalt be admitted into the society of the holy Patriarchs.
[21] And the third night thou shalt obtain a blessing that sound children may be born of you. [22] And when the third night is past, thou shalt take the virgin with the fear of the Lord, moved rather for love of children than for lust, that in the seed of Abraham thou mayst obtain a blessing in children.

@@WaltDanker I'm very concerned. I'm not opposed to our Church or the Second Vatican Council or anything like that, but I am very concerned with the current direction of translations that happened to come out of the most evil century in world history. What a beautiful story. Why would we not want people to know that marriage is for children, that children are blessings, and those who enter marriage with lust the devil rules? God bless!

I've noticed that my 1st edition RSV, Catholic Bible's book of Tobit is sometimes different than what you are reading, Father, from the 2nd edition. Why is that? The message remains the same, but there seems to be added or further explanation in your 2nd edition. This is the only book that I've noticed a difference in. Why is it different?

Honest Question: why is it that this angel lies and deceives Tobit and his family? Please help me understand how this is ok? Thank you FM.

Is perhaps the burning coal to Isaiah’s mouth a reference to purgatory?

That’s confusing because an angel can’t die!

@Pickles No Mustard Thank you! For me it says the channel is no longer available. Is it unavailable for you? It may be because of my filtering software.
