Fitting Ikea Schottis Blinds the cheapest blinds on the market?

  • I show how to fit Schottis window blinds from Ikea. They are easy to fit, look really good and are incredibly cheap!
    The Ikea website specifies that these venetian blinds are supplied with "Hook and loop fittings" to secure the blinds when folded up. However these were not supplied with my blinds. Not sure if this was an omission or a website error.
    PS: Since making this video a clever lady has made a video showing how to use the supplied clips, here: • IKEA SCHOTTIS blind cl... I still think the hair-clip is useful even when fitting the proper clips but I have tried this and the supplied clips do work.

    Odd that Ikea's website mentions nothing about cutting them. I had guessed as much, which is why I looked for that info elsewhere and found it here.
    The clips that are meant to hold them up are also not described clearly on the website. They would appear to be something Ikea should look into redesigning.
    I find myself frequently frustrated by lack of information on Ikea's website for what is often the first question I have about many of their products. Thank goodness people are willing to do their job for them and post videos such as this on YT.

      Hi Derek, thanks for the comments, I agree with you, the clips do work after a fashion but I guess they are made down to a price. Lack of information is a general problem that seems to be getting worse, most Chinese made goods for instance are made by anonymous manufacturers and simply rebranded so you can't rely on the quality. I have just received a big multiple order from Ikea and they are made all over the world...... Breath deeply and think happy thoughts! Thanks for watching.

    This was a very useful video. Thanks Steve. I would never have thought to use a kitchen knife to cut the blind, but it worked much better than my first attempts with a Stanley knife and mini hack saw! The plastic clips are working at the moment, but I’m not sure how long they will last. They seem to have bent already.

    Excellent professional video- used it with good results- Suggestions: I used a plastic mitre box with the kitchen knife (Scissors and a long bladed type of stanley knife did not work). Also used the long paper label from the blind to measure the exact size required for window.

    Thanks for an excellent video Steve. The only two things you forgot to mention is how these blinds are totally impossible to use on bay windows (you are lucky to have that conservative to use them on) and how far they should be put away from the window handles (just a reminder for novices like me). But I thank you for an excellent video. Any chance of finding out a year later how long lasting these blinds are as they look super flimsy and delicate.

    • @thestonecraftingworkshop7490
      @thestonecraftingworkshop7490  Před 4 lety +1

      Thank you for the input, I suppose it would depend on the style of bay window, certainly a curved window would be a challenge! However that is also true of any type of blind, (I think?) Fitting these to clear the handles might be a problem for most windows but I find it to be not a problem. I have made a video on these "13 months on" you can see it here: czcams.com/video/EQh5FngNaPA/video.html thanks for the interest and for watching!

    Thanks for this very helpful video...this may sound daft but where do you stick the Velcro regarding the window sill end? On the actual window sill? Or side walls at the bottom? Same with the top, inside the recess or outside? Many thanks! 😊

    • @thestonecraftingworkshop7490
      @thestonecraftingworkshop7490  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Helen, I don't think it really matters where you put the velcro. put it where it makes the blind look best. Ditto the top fitting. I put the bottom velcro on the sill, and stuck the sticky tape to the face of the frame. though if you are not going to open the window directly behind the blind I'm not sure I would bother with the velcro.

      @Analysis_Paralysis Před 4 lety

      I was also wondering where to stick the blinds? After reading the instructions I got so confused that I fit them into the window glas, not on top of the frame. I stuck them below the frame and not above the frame... Was it wrong? :(

      I put this up on my bathroom window, which is quite small. The biggest problem is that it's permanently closed ha ha! The only possible way to raise it & keep it open was using the plastic clips which this gentleman correctly states, are useless! I tried to scrunch up the blinds & once opened ,slide the clips on but they kept falling off . now I have a permanently closed, very cheap looking blind. OK as a temporary measure though!

      You're very welcome! No, I must say, it has stayed stuck up there for 10 months now ( longer than intended but my new bathroom & permanent window blind is further away than ever now, due to C19...I'll be at the back of the queue so long may this cheap blind last! lol) Even when it's windy outside & it occasionally gets sucked out of the window... It's still stuck on OK! Good luck with yours! :-)

    So the whole concept of have a blind is to stop sunlight or light in general entering the house.
    So what if on a sunny day roasting out. The light is applied on the adhesive it falls off because the glue gets hot.
    Very silly invention I would say. 10 out of 10 for the man who made this video made it look so easy.
    However the invention itself doesn't make any sense I'd rather pay extra 2 pounds and get fittings. At least they wont fall off with heat being applied.
