To be fair to Neymar, the standard set by Ronaldo and Messi in terms of statistical output hurt the perception of him. Many of the Brazilian greats that we have seen including Ronaldinho only had a peak of 2-3 years and even fewer that scored 25+ goals in a season multiple times.
Neymar isn't on the same level as Ronaldinho or R9 or other true Brazilian greats though.
@@jimjones8808 i'd take neymar above ronaldinho tho bcuz he was more consistent and has had a longer longevity than ronaldinho....not to mention, neymar has shown up in big games more than ronaldinho and has been WAAAY more profesional than him...they're very close ability-wise and both are GREAT
@@jimjones8808 Fair enough, but all those greats come from an era when Brazil was winning World Cups. When you look at what they achieved at club level, not many have a better resume than Neymar. If Neymar were to come back and Brazil win the World Cup, that is that.
Nostalgia plays a huge role in how we view legends of past. All of them were at some point, the best players in the world and Neymar wasn't because he happened to play in the same generation as Messi and Ronaldo. Has Simon for once considered that the idea to involve his family in his career might have been Neymar's own? When you grow up in a country where you have zero ability to make a living, especially the neighborhood where Neymar grew up, you will do everything that you possibly can to bring your family along when you make it out.
Last I checked Neymar depended on his family to get to where he is today. Or does Simon think that Neymar put himself in a football Academy and made the trips, spend the last bit of money, and made all the sacrifices to help him realize his dreams?
It's just sad to see the smug arrogance of a guy like Simon passing his moral code along to the unwashed plebs.
Wow, such amazing insights, I mean guesswork. Really well done, you have an active imagination.
@@FreshAlchemy hahahaha good one
Facts! Simon doesnât know what itâs like to be poor in Brazil. Certainly different from England. Just pure ignorance.

this is such a SILLY take from Simon and Danny. If a father raises his child, supports them fully and helps them to achieve their dreams, why can't they benefit financially?? If random strangers (agents and lawyers) can, what's wrong if a parent who actually has the best intention (most times) at heart for their OWN child reaps the rewards?? Well - you guys are comparing two different cultures and two different circumstances. Life is tougher in Brazil, less opportunity, and futbol is their way out of poverty. Hence, the parents are a lot more involved because they might not have a career of their own, and want to piggy back from the opportunity. And of course family comes first.
Where are they filming this? The hotel lounge?
Again, this is a conversation that proves how different the world is culturally.. where Iâm from, kids have an expectation of themselves to take care of the parents. And that was never forced, just cultural differences..

Simon is talking out of his ass here! There is nothing wrong with your parents having a hand in the management of Neymar!
The double standards sometimes makes me ashamed of some Brits in the media!
Has Rooney achieved his potential with all his scandals?Did Gerard achieve his potential with all the England exits (so called golden generation)?Did Michael Owen achieve his potential?
I could go on and list 20 British players who all overwhelmed after all the hype and media frenzy!
Neymar has been the hope of Brazil after Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Romario, Bebeto, and Ronaldinho exited the stage! He has delivered for his country and had a successful club career too! He has not had a normal life as he has been in the spotlight since he was a kid!
He has done his best and he can be proud of his achievements! If there were no Ronaldo and Messi, he would have won more accolades.

One bad game against an English team and they were overrated or playing in a poorer league etc just like the farmers league chat now. Italian league was too slow, Spanish league didnât have good defenders and that.
Not just Brazilians either.
But itâs life that musicians, actors, even friends and family donât get the love at the time till they gone. Everyone a legend when they stop.
How has he been consistent?
Ronaldinho, R9 and Kaka at a certain point in time have been considered "the best player in the world". Neymar was supposed to be the next "big thing" from Brazil yet there hasn't been a time where he is widely regarded as " the best player in the world". Its been a few years since the peak of Messi and CR7 but even with their powers waning he didn't take the chance.
Yes he has scored a lot of goals for Brazil, but so has Giroud for France.
For me he has never quite reached the level those former players mentioned have and I don't think playing in a League that is widely considered behind the PL, La Liga, Serie A and maybe potentially Bundesliga helps his cause.
Definitely one of the more intelligent takes. You have to say as well we saw the best of Neymar in that incredible Barcelona vs PSG game. Injuries have affected him physically/psychologically. He even had that serious back injury in the WC. But he never had Messiâs and Ronaldoâs discipline and drive. He partied plentyâŠ
Neymar has had a better career than any of those and had to carry much worse Brazil sides. Also, Messi was still scoring a goal per game the season before last, so he hasn't had a few years to be the best player in the world at all. He's easily been the third best player of the last 15 years. If Ronaldinho had played alongside peak Messi he wouldn't have been the best player in the world either.
Neymar has 100 more goals than Ronaldinho and more than twice as many in the CL. Ronaldinho played in a Brazil side with R9, Rivaldo, Cafu, Roberto Carlos, Lucio, Juninho etc.
Neymar has 50% more goals for his country than Giroud, playing deeper and in a harder qualifying section. Kaka shouldn't even be in this conversation, Neymar is much better than Kaka ever was.
If it's for falling over and rolling about then yes.
neymar was a special talent and number two pure natural talent behind messi - what he was doing at santos, winning copa libertadores - first for santos since pele, puskas award, skills, dribbling, statistical output. Ppl thought he wouldnât survive in europe but from 2014-2017 he was number 3 highly regarded by many. his way of playing is beautiful and inspired a generation to dribble and do skills like him. Itâs sad because he couldâve done so much more but injuries, distractions, personal problems he may have been facing hindered his career but ability and talent wise heâs easily top 5 of this generation. Neymar in his prime is the definition of Joga bonito and itâs clear he was born for football, in his prime at barca he made it look easy but he couldâve done more I think⊠however heâs overhated and over scrutinised. Every player makes mistakes, Ronaldo has missed open goals, messi has as well, messi has had the ball taken off him, Ronaldo has messed up a skill but with Neymar they only mention the mistakes or the times he lost the ball or didnât track back. ppl wonât realise but when he retires they will miss players like him greatly who make football look like a dance.
Neymar is one of the greatest of his generation even though injury has held him back his defo in the top 5 still. I hope Brazil win & Neymar plays abit more just so he can lift that trophy đ.
Talking about neymar his style of play sometimes reel in the feelings of hostile from his opponents.. I think he needs to be less selfish & make a one two pass & a quick cross into the box like vinicious did in the last two matches...if he holds the ball too long the opponents will really set to injure him & physically neymar is not strong..
I like the way Simon thinks
Listening to these people talk about Messi & then talk about Neymar shows how clueless they can be. Messi has an ego, Messi's family got selfish requests & many other issues... Messi is often treated like a saint or something when he had a lot of controversies(like racism which is big in Argentina). These have labelled certain players as x & others as y, then after doing so they argue why or why not.
Jesus, the translation is, at best, loosely based on what Neymar's dad said. Whoever that guy was that tried to translate the answers to English did an absolutely terrible job.
Harsh from Simon. I understand his point about providing for your kids and not vice versa but I think he needs to factor in the background of how poor the family was and how many sacrifices they would have had to make for Neymar to get to where he is. Would he prefer Neymar leaves his parents in poverty?!
Good stuff Simon đ...
Kane or Neymar who would you prefer in your start 11?
Just because Simon has owned a small football club once he thinks he's entitled to give his opinion on how everybody should behave just because he's been there and done it, right?

Def has fulfilled it. Has won everything but the WC and has either been the first or second best player in every trophy heâs ever won with any team heâs been on. Deep that for a second
For the ability he possesses, he could have had an even better career, especially from an individual perspective. Like I genuinely think heâs up there with Messi for talent. Iâm not in his head so donât really know, but I donât believe he has a psychotic determination to be the greatest like letâs say Cristiano and it manifests in his performances and lack of consistency.
@@T3akkeydhd i get what you mean. I think part of that psychological stuff youâre talking about stems from his injuries. The same Messi who turned up to the Balon'dor ceremony for 10 years in a row when he was either winning it or coming second to Ronaldo, then didn't turn up the one year Modric won it. The same Messi who left Argentina and his hometown club at age 13 and never returned. The same Messi who has spent the last 10 years walking around the pitch and doing 0 work for his team (unlike Neymar). And the same Messi who doesn't have a single World Cup knockout goal and disappears in the biggest games.
Danny Mills: âŠâsuggests to me that Messi has been brought up by a certain type of parent.â
Have you forgotten Messi was facing 21 months in prison and his father 15 months in prison for tax fraud and both found guilty of defrauding Spain and using Belize and Uruguay to conceal earnings from image rights. Messi in court said that he
trusted HIS FATHER with his finances and knew nothing about the tax issues that led to fraud charges against him in Spain despite there being enough evidence to believe that Messi knew about and consented to the creation of a corporate structure to lower his Spanish tax burden on income from Danone SA, Adidas AG, PepsiCo Inc. and other companies.

People forget that Neymar's early rise to fame at Santos was due, in no small part, to Paulo Henrique Ganso.
this is ridiculous, when ganso left santos/Neymar and went to san paulo he failed. neymar continued to be outstanding with barcelona.
You've missed the point, entirely. Have a look at various interviews Neymar has conducted on his early career at Santos where he acknowledges that his on-field relationship with Ganso was absolutely formative in his development as a player. In his prime, Ganso was one of the most elegant players of his generation. Injuries have hobbled his career, unfortunately.
