There are a couple of layers to the song and it's meanings that you missed. They spent the first summer of the lockdown, 2020 creating the album that this song is from. Before Covid, they had a huge global tour planned, including to a couple of destinations they hadn't been to before, and the tour, at the time this album came out, was indefinitely delayed. It was eventually cancelled. The song is not just about being with each other, but also not being able to see or hear ARMY. Suga's and J-Hope's verses are directly to ARMY. That's why Taehyung was looking at the stadium where their concert would have been. The ending scenes were filmed on the set of an online concert that they did, with ARMY bombs in the seats to represent the missing ARMYs. They had planned and practiced for weeks, if not months, for that tour and then it just didn't happen and suddenly they couldn't go anywhere or do anything. It absolutely devastated them.

On the album AgustD DDAY, there is a song with the same name. There were two versions of the song, this one and the one that Yoongi wrote. They chose this one for the group, and Yoongi saved the song and released it in his latest album. It's up to you to decide whether to listen to it or not, just a fan fact).

We had no idea how hard it was on them when the tour was canceled and then lock down. We thought it would be like a well deserved vacation for them, not understanding how they THRIVE on their nonstop hectic schedules. They went though major depression, and were devastated. The tour being canceled was brutal, the tickets were already sold! Their very being, centers on singing and dancing and practicing, and performances and touring and concerts. To have that suddenly yanked out from under you, and being confined to your apartment, and not knowing for how long was especially hard on them. But we got some great music from the pandemic. 💜💜💜

This is off the album BE, which is all about the pandemic era culminating in the happy and uplifting Dynamite. Personally I absolutely love this song - it gives me such a sense of comfort, like a proper hug. The album is full of great songs (of course - all their albums are!), but especially the fantastic hip-hop Dis-ease, the deep and emotional Blue & Grey, and the contemplative and imaginative Fly to My Room.

I think that while some of them had other apartments, they were all living in the dorm together in order to be able to perform together without isolating for several days, basically forming their own little COVID bubble. I remember bursting into tears when I first saw it because it was November 2020, right about the time people had begun to wonder if this was just going to be life from now on. "No end in sight." No vaccines, everyone struggling with pandemic shortages...but it was one of the first songs that put into words the emotional trauma of the previous 8 months. It was a stab to the heart but comforting at the same time because it acknowledged it. "They say the world has changedbut thankfully between us nothing has changed" is so powerful and so much what we needed to hear.

  • @leeswhimsy
    @leeswhimsy Před 6 dny +8

Yes, they all got "stuck" in Seoul at the dorms/business bldg and couldn't go anywhere, their biggest tour ever that had been being prepared for a year got cancelled. Their lockdowns were much harsher than ours in America and I dare say in England, so they were truly isolated together. And all their professional plans were trashed and it just kept going on and on. And yeah, they were still living in a "dorm", albeit an expensive very nice dorm, each with their own rooms/apt, but all connected (I think they had a common area with kitchen/living room type thing). BTW, ANY song you pick to react to - ANY performance - will be just fine. You will NOT be disappointed with any of them.

To add meaningfulness: if I remember correctly, when they created the song and the video, they also knew that soon after this Jin was going to the military (at the end, they decided to postpone the enlistment a little), so I think we can read the song lyrics and the video with a double meaning in mind: this pandemic will pass soon, but also, the period of the military will pass soon too, and we'll be all together once again.🥹 Jin part, when he said "To the future, let's run away" and there is the b&w part where they are singing together in a concert once again is really special to me. Jungkook did a very good job🥺✨ (ah, if someone didn't already told you, you can check his own videos made during their travels, it's called Golden Closet Film) 👍🏼✨

I think they were all living together still at the start of covid. By then they were in a multimillion pound apartment in the poshest part of Seoul. That was how they were still able to work on ideas. They had had to cancel a huge world tour that they were about to start when the pandemic began.

They were already living separately which was very hard on them in the pandemic. They were just getting used to living alone when suddenly they couldn’t meet up with friends and family. Jimin had said he didn’t like being alone before they moved out of their last dorm. V grew a bit of a beard at one point which we saw in one of his lives. Eventually they were able to meet as a group for work and they did their best to entertain us. They even put on a full scale concert over two days called, ‘Sowoozoo’ for Festa in 2021. It had been a year and a half since their last concert and they had no audience so it took them a while to get warmed up but the whole group performing Daechwita on the first day really got them in the mood. The set was incredible. I was thrilled to see my first BTS concert even if it was online.

Ruuth wrote this song. The members were directly involved in the production of their album, including the concept, design, music, and more. Jungkook was a director for the music video.Concerning the scenes in the car with V, a few were filmed near the Olympic stadium. He pointed there as it was memorable that they held concerts there.

YES this was during the pandemic and the interior shots was their shared apartment. The bedroom scene was Jhope and Jimins bedroom. This was probably the last apartment they shared together before they slowly started moving out. I mean they had literally lived together sharing rooms and amenieties since 2011/2012 . I know Jimmy had self isolated in 2020, as there is footage of him during this time where he is cleaning his apartment lol. Im.not sure where the others were, perhaps with their direct family. But technically most members still continued live there. (Senior Army's can atest if i am wrong) If u watch the 2022 Festa, it was very very emotional for them and RM cried the most as they refer to finally packing up their stuff to finally leave the shared apartment so it was very sad and at the same time the " hiatus" was mentioned as they were all working on their own individual projects, which we have now all already experienced to date and Jin being the 1st to enter military. Brings back emotions😢😢😢

In 2020 they had their MOTS 7 global tour planned but that was cancelled. While in the beginning the rules in SK were not as strict as in Europe, they tightened considerably by late spring/early summer and all 7 members stayed in their dorm together where they basically wrote, produced and promoted BE . Also there were talks that Jin would have to enlist by the end of the year, so you can see that there is a special focus on him in the MV, him looking back in the car at his members, him being the center of the MV (also Tae being so caring about him during Tiny Desk performance etc.)
Then Dynamite happened to cheer ARMY up and it was a huge success, then the government passed the BTS Law where all idols who had special merits could extend their enlistment until they turn 30 instead of 28 and Jin did not enlist in Dec. 2020 and BTS went on to become the hottest item globally. BE came out in November 2020 and is to this day the last studio album of BTS (Proof being a collection kind of album). BE is very much a pandemic themed album and it has two songs on it that were never supposed to be on it in the first place, Jungkook's STAY and Taehyung's BLUE & GREY that had been written by them respectively for their own - then - mixed tapes. The rap line added their lines to the B&G.
Tae even teased that song in IN THE SOOP S1 - he wrote it in English, and it is is even more haunting.

They were living separately at this time however since they were still putting out music and doing online concerts they did stay all together at the dorm during part of the pandemic, things were worse in S Korea before eventually causing us in America to go on lockdown for about 2 weeks, it was so hard watching all their hard work for the Map of the Soul:7 world tour just get completely cancelled, they had so much planned for this tour, and the boys were so upset because they were unable to see and perform for Army, in S Korea they still would do music shows and award shows without any audiences or crews even once things lifted a little bit the fans were unable to cheer or anything during their concert, they made these clappers to use instead of using their voices, it was until the came to America for 2 concerts at Sofi stadium in LA that they would be able to hear army cheer, mask were still mandatory so they couldn't see our faces, I was suppose to go to one of the concert right after Thanksgiving, but my dad was in the hospital ( not because of Covid) and the kennel I was to board my dogs at were unable to contain them safely so had to cancel the night before I was suppose to fly out, I was so upset. I still have not been able to attend any concerts since 2019 but the boys were great about doing live video's with the fans, then online concerts, unlike now we don't get to see or hear from them being in the military, every so often they will leave us messages on weverse or their individual Instagram accounts, except Jungkookie, he deleted his account, but he did just start one for his dad Bam

I absolutely love this song. This is from the BE album that came out during the pandemic. It is an amazing album in my opinion and is the album Dynamite is on as well. I usually end up putting this song on all my playlists--even when it doesn't fit the vibe. I just have a weakness for this track I guess. Anyway, thanks so much! Hope you are completely recovered soon!

Most of the guys had moved out of the dorms but Jimin and jhope were still living there when this was filmed. The bedroom is actually their real bedroom at the time.
The whole BE album is about their lives during the pandemic. They did everything on the album themselves - cover, production, song writing, music video directing and concept, etc. The album was meant to be a way of connecting BTS and ARMY during a truly stressful time.

Sadly most of them moved out in 2017. I think it was only jimin, Jungkook and Jin? who stayed at their group dorm. If I’m not wrong and the last 3 moved out around 2021 according to BTS docuseries.
