Absolutely love that Jack compared Oklahoma to Inoki, AJ Styles and Shibata in the space of 10 seconds
I really miss Daffney. I enjoyed her work in WCW and Impact/TNA, and she was one of just a few bright spots in the last years of WCW.
yeah i attended her funeral online, they had an online service because of covid + she was a bit of a celebrity, i didn't know her personally but was definitely a fan =(, she was one of the most attractive women in wrestling to me, and a very great woman IRL by all accounts
She was great and I totally agree she was one of the few bright spots in WCW's final year. I was really saddened to hear of her passing.
Why people tell you you're so great after committing suicide? Sorry she's gone but she wasn't that good 🤨
@@nicktaylor2657 you clearly need to do more research on her
@Nick Taylor Everyone knew she was great long before she died lol
I remember this ppv I sat in a closet and watched it because we were moving and my folks had the doors open to load the truck and I happened to get a fever and they got me the ppv so they could finish up. Sat shivering from fever and watching this ppv on my last day in my childhood home in a closet
I've literally never watched a single wrestling match but am so captivated by the story telling on this channel that I've binge watched an insane amount of content. Watching Jack's videos feels like having a few drinks and then listening to a friend explain random matches they remember from childhood.
You must've been a bit weirded out by the Great American Bash 2004 one and pretty much every ECW one then lol
@Syko I'm honestly fascinated by the behind the scenes stories and peeking behind the curtain. I'm a Canadian and have heard the names Hart, Jericho and Benoit...but to actually see the creation of some of these legends is incredible. And of course this channel is really respectful in the way they've covered some of the heavier topics like Chris Benoit or Jake the Snake.
@Megan Shepheard Yeah I wasn't really referring to that... Great American Bash 2004 had someone being kayfabe killed via cement drowning. It's not exactly an easy subject to explain to someone that hasn't watched the programmes lol
@Syko Yeah sorry I didn't really answer you lol. Honestly that's the kind of stuff I remember hearing about. I always assumed pro wrestling was a bunch of insane stunts like the cement burial haha. Finding out all the intricacies behind the scenes of that match was more wild than to me than the actual sketch.
I'm not sure what channel 8s called. But there is channel where they upload 1hr 30 min full build ups of matches
Suddenly I realize that if Darby Allin came around 25 years earlier him and Vampiro would have made a interesting tag team.
Darby allin wouldn't have been looked at 25 years ago unfortunately...
Point well taken.
@@emileawan8701 yeah he would, he is literally just a smaller Vampiro.
@@supersasukemaniac Back then they would’ve just thought he was a fan trying to look like Vampiro. He would not be in WCW. Their motto was literally where the big boys come to play.
@@joesmoe8841 They had a whole Cruiserweight division though...
I feel like there’s a scenario where Madusa as Cruiserweight Champion could have been fun. But Vince Russo was NOT the guy to write such a story however.
Jack the Jobber, you are an absolute legend. I always look forward to your videos and your series!
Jack made this whole video. “Do you have mints?”
Would love to see an episode of Lucha underground covered as it was a promotion defined by weirdness. If I could suggest one John Morrison /Johnny mundos wedding is a good one for weirdness
The weirdness came from the story lines being told in Telenovela/Mexican Soap Opera style. The actual in ring stuff was great.
Man i miss lucha underground
I hate that LU is gone, it was a whole lot of fun to watch. The in-ring matches were excellent, and the storylines were just crazy (the Telenovela-style sold it).
@@leejames929 Aztec pride for life
@@leejames929 MLW still does a lot of the Lucha Underground stuff with same boss.
As bad as WCW was back then I still love going back and watching how badly overbooked things were and how very little was planned out in advance and how they would miss the spots because no discussion took place on how they were going to do it or even on one person was told.
Not only were the announce team not told what was going to happen during the backstage segments they weren't even allowed to watch them during the show.
THANK YOU JACK
Been waiting for a new episode from this series! Keep up the good work you utter legends 🙌❤️
One of the best series! Hilarious work from Jack and Luke! Fantastic episode!
Kudos to you guys for finding new ways to capture the audience. This *timeline* *true crimes* and *rise and fall* have been incredible new additions to the wrestling CZcams landscape. Theyve all become must watches for me personally as I’ve grown tired of rehashing all of the Osw review back catalog. Thanks guys ❤️
That Cody Rhodes tweet is fucking savage
I think a big part of why WCW fumbled with Bret was their extremely crowded main event scene at the time. You had guys who were contractually obligated to be main eventers (Hogan, Nash), tenured company veterans who earned their main eventer status (DDP, Sting), and the steamrolling phenomenon that got over organically in Goldberg. With so many guys vying for main event spots, Bret just seemed like the odd man out among them.
The best way they could've booked Bret was as a true anti-authority, anti-rebel figure. Screw the NWO, screw Bishoof, screw WCW, Bret just needs to look after himself. Which would then ally himself with Sting, the lone wolf of WCW when the NWO took over. Help Sting fight the NWO, ambush Bishoff with Sting, tag team with Sting.
That would've been so damn cool.
A GOOD wrestling company/booker would find a way around that through compelling stories, or intelligent booking choices.
@@woobgamer5210 Bret was boring. He was best as a IC guy and tag guy. He was no match for Hogan star power.
Bret never drew Money because he sucked as a character. NWO was like 1000 times better than vanilla Bret.
WCW fumbled with Bret. That's obviously why he's one of only nine WCW Triple Crown Champions. Poor misused Bret. What a joke!
Yes! Sick as a dog this morning and I’m so glad this got posted so I can have some relief for just a moment. Hope everyone had a good holiday!!
I think we’re at a point where we can separate
Chris Benoit the wrestler & Chris Benoit the man.
I second that
Yea I agree. But I do admit when I watch him in a match it is very hard to not hold what he did against him just because he's awesome at flying around a ring in tights.
Ah, a Pimp my Ride meme. A man of taste.
Love this series, great video Jack!
"Oklahoma" was not a Jim Ross parody.
"Oklahoma" was straight up character assassination of Jim Ross as a person and it sucked and Ed Ferrara sucked for doing it.
And then Jack says something to the effect of punk rock kicking off with Green Day releasing "Dookie".
Oh Jack.
Oh honey.
Jack, bless your heart, you sweet Summer child.
I love these videos so much lol. One of my absolute favorite series on CZcams
So glad this is back! Definitely need more of these on the regular!
WOOOOOOOOO! Super hyped for another of these, they are so much fun! Thanks!
If Slipknot came out and helped Bray Wyatt, I'd loose my literal shit.
lose
@@VHSRKIVES his shit has to be loose before he can lose it😂
Lol you’re both right, either way it would be epic
Madusa looked hot as hell at this PPV 😍
These are great, loving the work Jack 👏
What’s crazy to think about Medusa’s monster truck career is she went on to win many championships and was very successful in the sport, reaching similar stardom she did with pro wrestling
She's still in it, during her WWE Hall of Fame induction she said she had to keep it short since she had to go to a Monster Jam event.
Medusas monster rack was better
She's way more famous for monster jam then wrestling.
Literally name a single thing she did after canning the WWF women's title
@@elchomper.1063 as this video mentions, she was the first female WCW Cruiserweight Champion. That's a pretty fair achievement, that title represented the greatest cruiserweight division in the history of the industry. Some of the greatest matches in history have been over that belt, Eddie vs Rey at Havoc 97 being a great example.
"That's really good. I'm...really good."
Yes, Jack - you're bloody brilliant. Cheers for the insight into how weird WCW truly was on the crux of the new millennium. One of my favourite times to look back on!
That first bin was a Surge Cooler. Holy shit Remember Surge?
That's what I said 😂 I loved that stuff
You're obviously men of refined tastes. I drank so much Surge in 1999.
I love this series so much! Keep it up Jack 👏🏻
Love this series thanks jack & editor
5:27-5:44 "I agree with everything Chris....hmmm."
Love this series! Thanks
I was just thinking that I've missed this series. Love it and love to see it back.
Honestly, halfway through this video, I forgot Jack was talking about Starrcade. This sounds like a regular ass episode of Nitro and that’s not good 😂
YES! Three minutes in and we get the
MISFITS!
IN!
ACTION!
dew-new-new-new...
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO It's back y'all! Best series on CZcams.
I’ve never watched a video hosted by Jack on this channel but I have to say I am very won over. Very entertaining to listen to and made me audibly laugh several times. Made a fan here today and look forward to more content from him!
I highly recommend this whole series then, he hosts every episode and they're all masterpieces
Great video, I love this series
Late 90s wrestling always perplexes me looking back at it. At the time I used to watch or tape both WWE and WCW and watch one live, then the tape of the orther right after. Then for some reason in 99, I don't even recall why, I just started watching WWE only. Seems like I wasn't the only one.
Great video. I think not having a "Binception" joke for the Meng v Smiley section was a missed opportunity though, but that's the smallest of nitpicks. Happy holidays fellas.
We need more of these
"Shane Douglas cuts a promo so average" that's a real good summary of his whole career
Madusa was my favorite woman in wrestling at the time for two reasons
Man, there was a lot of Jeff Jarrett. It's almost like he's friends with the booker.
The night Goldberg ended Bret Hart’s career. At least his full time career.
Bret ended his own career in the corner figure four. Smacked his head on the floor
@@justinmcgrath6635 From what I read on Bret’s Wikipedia, that was actually Goldberg’s fault for not taking the move correctly.
@@TheTennesseeFistMachine But the injury he suffered in the match eventually forced him to retire.
@@DJDoubleCee Bret ended his career due to long term concussion issues by doing sharpshooter on the turnbuckle.
Bret a liar tries to blame Goldberg because he was a flop champion.
"DDP would never stalk another man's wife two years later." lol
keep doing these plz, similar to this video plz, so good
I'm so glad this series is still going.
Y’know the ‘Our own nation’ angle actually makes Duggan’s running gag of getting USA chanted even against Americans actually make sense for once
I actually started to cry a bit because I laughed so much that Nash won the Powerbomb match because he told the ref he did it
Love this series!
Fun note: At the following months PPV, Medusa would drop the Cruiserweight Title to...
(Checks notes)
Oklehoma.
Don't ask questions about it, the answer to it is simply "WCW in 2000".
Hearing the finish to Nash/Sid made me laugh so much, did not expect it and is the type of nonsense I love in wrestling at times! If I could recommend an episode for this series, it would be either the first SmackDown of the lockdown era or the AEW Dynamite that had the weird Dark Order ending (think it was the last one in 2019)
I think you'll find Bret Hart only gave Christmas 4/10.
Great video I love these! On a side note though I just want to say I'm not here to argue I'm not here to talk this or that I just want to say that I think we forget when it comes to Chris Benoit that yes he did that terrible thing but he also had CTE along with other brain injuries and whatnot from wrestling so if he didn't have all those things wrong with him , would he have have killed his wife and son? I don't think would have done it .so honestly I think it's Petty that no one can sit and talk abouthim about how great of a wrestler he was. Again I know it was a terrible tragedy but sometimes we forget that it was tragic what happened to him too. The man worked his ass off and gave his entire body and brain just to entertain us and because of it a terrible tragedy happened. I just think it's wrong that we can't talk about him and his body of work and his contributions to wrestling especially since he's sacrificed so much
I think the point of the Gold Crowbar was to actually, somehow, cheat. Like while the other wrestler grabs the crowbar on the pole, David decks him with the Gold Crowbar.
We do have Polos in the US, they’re called Life Savers. Fun fact, Rowntree’s manufactured Life Savers under license during WWII because they were so popular with US troops. When they lost the license after the war they just changed the name to Polos and kept making them.
I remember when OK debuted, and I thought he was hilarious but like every bad joke, he fizzled out rather quickly. I also thought the jokes on the other side about Turner buying those wrasslers with the "Huckster" and the "Nacho man"! "Thinking, thinking, thinking oooh!" Also 🤣@ "age in a cage!" 🤣🤣
Love this format!
I miss that block of Afternoon MTV shows like Pimp My Ride, Viva La Bam, Room Raiders, Rob & Big, NEXT, etc.
You def should check out the fallout games! That's much how I watch dark souls games on streams and have dabbled in them but ultimately I don't care to have a heartache over constant failure in a game lol
Would you find it hard to believe that Starrcade 1999 was given a TV-MA Rating on the Network
They should use the old disclaimer from South Park: “This stuff is so bad, it shouldn’t be viewed by anyone, ever.”
Gonna need a video of Jack singing the whole Dookie album now
Shocker of a PPV took me three days to get through this.
Thank you for singing GreenDay that alone got you a like
All of Jack's little asides make this so chaotic.
I like it 😁
I love the Benoit Jarrett match
Most of these storylines sound more suited for Southpaw Regional Wrestling than a Industry leading company.
Jack is an actual full blown LEGEND!!!!
I love these - my new favorite Jack-series after wrestler of the week
thanks~
I'm glad that water bottle bit totally wasn't cut, because then I would be able to see the illusion of you guys sitting in a chair!
10:38 Gotta be honest, I was waiting for "...and Brian Knobbs because he was a knob"
Thaaaaanks :D
Actually it wasn't obvious that Vince Russo was the powers that be as it was several months before he appeared on camera in WCW and was barely ever seen on camera in the WWF
This is my favorite solo show on this channel
I didn't know I wanted to see Slipknot join Bray Wyatt until this video.
Wow man that was a back handed slap to us Michigan people, I see you homie 👀🤔
I just realized that Starcade 97, 98, and 99 had crappy world title finishes. Damn
Honorable mention for 96, while they never out right said it was for the belt, they didn't say it wasn't for the belt either...
@@stevenmacaulay8807 damn so the main event sucked for 4 straight years
I'd love to see an episode of this series at some point on the post wrestlemania raw 2020. That was a damn bizarre show.
Seventeen minutes in, and 3 people have nearly died. Oh how I love wcw
Not merchandise, Varsity Letter Jackets. When you are on the Varsity (main) Team in school, they give you a Letter at the end of the year, if you get the Jacket you can put the Letter on it, hence why the Jackets are the School's color..
how the hell is dustin Rhodes in better shape in 2022 than in 1999
Dusty’s had a wild life. It’s a minor miracle he’s still around; an even bigger one he’s still wrestling.
9:31 Nobody except those really few people who called the WWF Hotline from years prior, would recognize Russo's voice. I know you guys started watching during the PG era, but come on.
The polo mints are called lifesavers in America
this was the event where us Monster Jam fans were officially denied the Hitman.
1996/1997 - Bret's WWF based monster truck runs various non-TV events under different indie owners/drivers
1997, screwjob, Bret's off to WCW, Bigfoot and TRI Inc. design a Hitman truck for Monster Truck Madness 2, in 1998 Bigfoot leaves Monster Jam but WCW stays with them, cancelling the truck for a short time, latter half of 1999 the NWO gain a truck, Bret's newly drawn concept truck is on a couple shirts for a merch test, Bret takes Goldberg's boot to the head, things hit the fan behind the scenes for Bret again, Monster Jam cancels truck before 2000 TV Taping season reaches January's planned debut.
fun fact: the WCW Nitro Machine truck, technically promoting a rival wrestling championship on a rival network, did feature heavily on ECW's home, TNN in 2000
I've heard that quote before. Someone on TikTok said it "if you can't dazzle them with your brilliance, baffle them with your bullshit"
Weirdest has become my fav miniseries
15:40 the Misfits band is important and we’re pretty good with Glenn Danzig as their singer for a couple of years. But they really only made a few songs before breaking up Sex Pistols style. A big reason why they’re popular now is bc Metallica and other bands wore their tee shirt with the skull logo on it and a few of their songs were covered by big bands. And in regards to American punk rock no band tops The Ramones! Check out their self titled debut and go from there as they have a perfect 20 year discography
To be fair, Cody Rhoades is one of the 5% of modern day wrestlers who does know how to get over. He didn't prove Disco Inferno wrong at all, but it was still a deep burn.
That Wolfpack beat box was amazing ‼️😂😂😂 🐺
Even this British dude knows its OH-IO every time!
I love that Sid must have refused to take Nash's power bomb. It made me giggle.
Our American mints with the hole are called Lifesavers!
Iv had the pleasure...displeasure of watching this tripe of a show guys.
Disco’s version of the Stunner was called the “Chartbuster,” I believe he started using it in late ‘98/early ‘99 so there’s no question he was ripping off Stone Cold. I guess it’s better than his previous finisher, a plain vanilla sit-out piledriver.
In the USA polos are called life savers 😂
yes, true, in fact, the Life Savers brand predates the polo according to Wikipedia as Polo first came out in the UK in 1948 and Life Savers first came out in the US in 1912.
these are still my fave series, top edits of jack jokes
The golden crowbar joke made my day
There is ONE definitive self-commentating match- Black Snow
Spice was the best Nitro Girl IMO. Best dancer out of all of them and always looked so enthusiastic while she was doing it. You could tell she was having a blast.
