A car would have made a big difference in your shopping experience. There are major roads in Leesburg and Wildwood within 10-20 minutes of our centrally located Villages house with any store or restaurant you would want. 3,000 plus clubs in the Villages for literally ANY activity you can think of. We are ACTIVE and love it! Pools are heated to 83 degrees. You can go to the pool all year!

We have lived in The Villages for eight months now and have not found shopping to be a problem. We live in a very new section of The Villages and the commercial stores haven’t quite caught up with us yet. We are getting a Costco along with BJ’s and Sam’s club. As you said, this is a retirement community and most of us are not in a hurry to get anywhere.
We have a clock on the wall that only has the days of the week on it. The only time that is important in The Villages is if you have to Tee time at one of the plethora of golf courses.
Being retired, buying stuff that we don’t already have is not a priority. 😁

Living in TV I would never want a huge mall where I could go to find everything. The traffic would be abysmal especially if the mall was in the center of TV. Folks from outside TV would be using the streets which would make golf cart driving more hazardous. Driving in a golf cart is fabulous especially the morning and evening. I didn't find it difficult to find places in TV when I first moved here I just memorized that there are two main roads (Morse, Buena Vista) running North to South. East to West there are now 4 roads ( 27/441, 466, 466A, and 44). These roads are pretty much parallel and everything is in relation to those roads. Also, everything in TV can be accessed by golf cart. The question is whether a new business on the fringe of TV is golf cart accessible. TV does not like to have golf carts from outlying areas to access TV roads. Excellent video!!!

      @TamiDunn  Před 25 dny

    A) Thank you - the fact that you took the time to film and edit and do reviews and do all of that for NOTHING (meaning no one PAID you or sponsored you with a free trip) - so also even if the videos weren't perfect, we are getting this inside look for FREE. I cannot imagine how anyone would squawk at this or anything else you did. B) "Vacation" - I feel like you only said vacay when you were reviewing or wrapping up and why things were different than at home and technically you sort of were on a sort of vacay - people should not be so literal - you said lifestyle visit 5000 times. If they didn't get it, too bad too sad. LOL C) I wanted to ask a couple questions when I watched part 2, and now I forgot them. Oh jeez. I will say despite the dirt cheap trip (you cannot beat the price of the stay), I wouldn't spend that much on a flight unless it was to somewhere I had to spend an entire day or night on a plane - like going to Japan or something so far away! You do you, of course. $2K just is too much for ME, not that it matters. I am sure I could get a really cheapo flight to Villages from where I live in IL but that is just ME. Considering how cheap the trip was outside of that is still amazing. Lastly, I am still trying to remember or see where the smudge was! I know sometimes you were on the go pro and sometimes on the phone. Either way, looked great - sharp! Thanks again. On part 2, I would definitely go for North side. I would love a new home but you're right about 100% of what you said, including the younguns moving into the South. No way for me. I would want to be done with that. Where I am now I want to be done with that! I go for quiet and I want space; I don't care about yard space personally, just fewer young people, fewer pets, no smoking (I love animals dearly but you were right about what you said). I would take a renovated older home if done well (and pray I don't move next door to someone renting - oh lawd!).

Unfortunately, the rec centers do not have weight rooms. Many people wish they did, but I personally think it's an insurance thing. If you want to go to a gym, it will be a regular membership just like you get at home now.
There is a place to plug your cord into the golf cart so it will charge as you drive :)

Great wrap up video! I am VERY interested in the apartments! I hadn't even considered that option. If they are affordable I may not have to wait much longer except for the waiting list of course. But at least it wouldn't be dependent on affording the purchase of a house. I definitely want to look into this and see what floor plans they have and what the monthly cost would be.
It looks like it might be good to have both the car and a golf cart as the golf cart could get into some places that it would be more difficult to get a car into and the car could get you places where golf carts could not cross on major highways. They each definitely have their pros and cons but I think if I were living there I would want the car option for bad weather climate control air conditioning etc.

I watched all of your Villages videos. I live in Ocala and have been going there before it was called The Villages and on the left side of 441 they had mobile homes and on the right side it was 2 bedroom 2 bathroom concrete block homes. There was a shopping center and a really popular Mexican restaurant. It is amazing what it has become. You have to be 19 to buy a home there but why would a young person want to live there? If they end up having children, they have to move. They have schools there but they are for employees children. Very good schools. If a parent loses their job, they have to find another job in The Villages or their kids have to change schools. I could never afford to live there. Maybe a mobile home but they have mandatory evacuations for hurricanes. No thanks! A lot of people pay cash for their homes there. They sold a home up north for more than homes in The Villages cost. But they do have multi-million $ homes there too. About seatbelts on golf carts, most people who use them to travel around have seatbelts installed. I think it goes back to the original use for a golf cart-you wouldn’t use a seatbelt driving from one golf hole to another. Just my 2 cents!

But the 2 of you do more shopping than the average person because you buy items to review. I’m happy with going to just one grocery store. great wrap up with a lot of details. One thing that would concern me would be the fact that the general public can come in and out with no ID's checked, etc. So, it's not really a secure gated community. The cameras are a good deterrent to crime and I totally support cameras. But still.....anyone can walk in there. And with an area that big, there's really not a way to securely monitor who goes in and out. If I'm paying an HOA for services around there, I want full security. True, it's not foolproof. Here in Vegas, people jump gates, they go under gates, they break thru gates and go over walls, etc. Sometimes it can be a false sense of security to have gated areas, but I still wouldn't feel super comfortable knowing that anyone can go in and out of that entire area and not be stopped. Criminals don't always look like criminals, either. Sometimes, yes. Sometimes, no. I'm sure the crime rate is very low there just due to the fact that it's a retirement area with older people, but if I lived there I'd be as careful around there with locking up my house as anywhere else. I just feel like if you pay a premium for certain types of services, I want to know that I'm as protected as possible. I'd rather live in a much smaller more self contained 55 and over community where there's a lot more control of who goes in and out. One thing I would also do is check on the actual crime statistics in the Villages, just to find out what actually does happen around there, or if certain areas are higher crime than other locations in the area. Again, I'm sure it's MUCH lower than a typical neighborhood in the US. Just would be curious to see what the actual occurrences might be there. Sometimes it can be surprising to see the actual data. It's an area with rich people who have $$$$. If I were a criminal it might be an appealing target! With a percentage of the snowbirds gone half the year, that might make it even more vulnerable to burglary.

It is a very safe area with very low crime. Perhaps in part because the neighbors are vigilant. Though the area is open to the public, outsiders most frequently visit the squares and restaurants. They aren’t allowed in the rec centers or pools and have no way to access the golf cart paths. There would be no reason for them to visit the neighborhoods (Villages).

Meant to add…home prices range from $200K to $2M. It is a place with an affordable home price for many😊

I love that they have all those cameras. Security is important.
Does the percentage under 55 include a spouse that may be under 55?
I agree, there needs to be seatbelts on the golf carts.
I would have to take a car to a show. My hair and humidity don’t mix. 😂 I would be that person to get a Uber 😬
I love how big and lively they are. I can see the draw for retirees.
    Can’t wait for Part Two

I’m not sure how that percentage is broken down.
