- CALDERDALE PARISH #1: HEPTONSTALL
Heptonstall is a small village in the Calderdale district of West Yorkshire, located just to the North of Hebden Bridge. It’s parish boundaries include the hamlets of Colden and Slack, to the West
Heptonstall is an ancient village, which is famous for more reasons than I can fit into one video. Most people know it thanks to its cemetery containing the grave of Sylvia Plath, an American poet who was married to Ted Hughes. Plath isn’t the only poet in the cemetery either
The village was the site of a battle during the English Civil War. Industrially, the village was known for hand loom weaving, and it has any number of weavers cottages, which line its narrow cobbled streets.
It has three churches, two of which are active, the other a ruin. The latter of these claims another famous grave - that of "King" David Hartley, the leader of the Cragg Vale Coiners, a group who counterfeited coins to supplement their low income from weaving.
There’s so much here, you really don’t know where to look. Let’s go and see what we found!

Glad you enjoy them! There will of course be waaay more to come :D
Loved that video, Andy. Part of Yorkshire that i have never visited, but it looks like a really interesting place, with fantastic views of the moors. Loved the churches, too, both old and new. Time to watch Nicky's now!
Quite a walk up from Hebden Bridge!
Hi Andy Nikki and Victoria .
Wow that certainly a historic place.
So much history there...
The old weavers industry which it was famous for.
It still has that ye old worldly charm.
Long may it last..
The scenery is stunning there, tho in better weather it will be appreciated more...
Love the weavers cottages. Cobbled streets.
Lot to see ..
Thanks for vlog.
You're welcome!
Heptonstall looks beautiful! Historic, cozy place that looks like a set for a film. You picked a great one to start the district off with, that's for sure.
Amazing churches too. Is it just me or do they have amazing names? ;)
Thank you very much! They do! I loved them both :D
Watch Martin Zero's recent visit too, for a closer look.
