Eritrean Railway, Train to Massawa

The Eritrean Railway connects the port of Massawa with the capital Asmara in the mountains at 2300 m above sea level. After the war of independence it was rebuilt with the original material from the 1930s. The video clip shows a positioning move of rolling stock in route to Massawa.
The Eritrean Railway verbindet die Hafenstadt Massawa mit der Hauptstadt Asmara in den Bergen auf 2300 m über dem Meeresspiegel. Die Schmalspurbahn wurde nach dem Unabhängigkeitskrieg mit dem originalen Material aus den 1930ern wieder aufgebaut. Das Video zeigt eine Überführungsfahrt von Loks und Wagen nach Massawa.

Einfach nur schön, ich war bis heute 7x in Eritrea aber nur 1x diese Bahn beim fahren gesehen und das war in 2009. Im Januar 2025 sofern es machbar ist bin ich wieder dort vielleicht seh ich sie dann mal wieder live beim fahren, Danke fürs zeigen🙏👍

vom 26.1 bis 1.2.25 ist wieder eine Tour für Eisenbahnfreunde mit Sonderzügen geplant. Dann ist die Chance ziemlich gross, das in Asmara Loks unter Dampf stehen.

Yet the railway line is closed at the lower section after floods. The Government ist not active in repairs. There may be specials for tourists along the upper section from Asmara.
