It’s certainly disappointing that Dune: Part Two isn’t in theaters right now but sometimes waiting is the best part. Case in point, today we’ve been graced with a brand new trailer, and it’ll make you somehow even more excited for the sequel than you already are. Which is really saying something.
Dune: Part Two stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, and many more. It opens March 1 and here’s the new trailer.
The main thing you get from that trailer is that Part Two is just a much, much bigger movie than Part One. Part One had to move all the pieces into place. Now, Paul is becoming the leader of an entire people and will use them to win back their planet. We’re talking war on a planetary scale, which-most excitingly-includes not just one, but multiple sandworms tearing through soldiers. Can you wait to see that shot in IMAX? We can’t.
Emotion is going to play an even bigger role here too. The trailer makes it clear Paul’s feelings for Chani, and vice versa, are a huge factor in everything that’s happening and, knowing the story of Dune, ends up being a massive influence on how Paul decides to rule not just Arrakis, but maybe beyond.
Oh and then there are about a billion other incredible actors playing all manner of crucial roles and... am I the only one suddenly feeling like it’s time for a Dune: Part One rewatch?
Dune: Part Two is coming on March 1 and has the potential to be one of the year’s best, not just sci-fi films, but films in general. At least, that’s our hope.

I read 4 book series as a child 45 years ago: Dune, Foundation. Lord of the Rings and the Lensmen series , what an education in life.
All of those books changed my life. Forever. 🎉
Same, except I read them 60 years ago. Along with Edgar Rice Burroughs’ wonderful books.
I really enjoyed his John of Mars Books, looked really forward to the film , walked away disappointed
I thought I was alone. 😢 Everybody should read them in high school.

Watched the original movie countless times and with all of its shortcomings I still think that they did a great job with the tech available at the time. That being said, this reboot is obviously Fn epic!
We've been waiting for too long for part 2 and I am genuinely excited about a movie for the first time in a very long time.

Have read and re-read these books, since the early 70s, so I am really looking forward to what these producers do with this franchise and how far into it they go.

God Emperor of Dune is a pretty necessary climax imo - it has some of the more necessary context and ideas that lead to catharsis. God created Dune to train the faithful etc.
can you tell me why in the first movie Paul ascend very fast as leader and "the chosen" and badass and in this movie he is treated as arrogant guy that is trying to be "superior"? Which is the real story in the books?
@@edumalafaia11 That is more or less following the book, in the end he regrets the jihad he has started and is more or less powerless to stop, his sister is fighting inner demons, but his kids are pretty cool, and then his son turns himself into the final boss.
This is the best one yet!

This director does not disappoint. He has captured many nuances of the book. I see them all very much like the many worlds theory each of them have their positive and negative elements. A wonderful journey. May your blade break and shatter.

Christopher Walken is an incredible cast, he can be frighting and serious. I mean he could deliver his lines in pulp fiction and made it as serious as it can get.

Walker was a brilliant actor in 80's and made wartime films that were top notch.

Don't get me wrong, I think Christopher Walken was a great choice, and great to see him in a serious role after being almost self-parody for years, I'm just very surprised at the choice.

@MilkingTable1 he will be the Emperor and it is brilliant. The Emperor is old, has no heirs to continue the bloodline. He is powerful, but less so every day. He sees the end of his house and is desperate, Walken can easily sell that.
If he has a piece of jewelry that looks like a cowbell I will be laughing for an hour.

First movie that I’m willing to go alone for a midnight release in a LOOONNGG TIME. Timothy, you’ve been kicking ass in every movie you’ve made from beautiful boy to Dune. You gotta fucking rock this one! These movies hit dear to me because of the books. That word silence has got to have meaning and power behind, with every intent to have them shut their mouths!!!

It's amazing how a director can take a book series that focused primarily on philosophy and thought and turn it into a over the top melodramatic action adventure series.

In the book, Paul was 15 at the start. He was also trained by the best fighters in ”the universe” Halleck and Idaho. This actor does a job though despite him being a waif.

He did use a form of it in the book if I remember correctly. They were all pissed he wasn’t calling stilgar out so he had to step veryyyyy carefully during that speech and used tones of the voice.

Dune is so relevant this year. Frank Hubbard wrote this book about the dangers of hero worship and power. Paul comes from an ancient Greek family and Dune is a Greek tragedy. Paul is not just a hero. And the book is not about male domintion. The Dune saga is full of powerful female characters. Good, bad and often both.

Top Gun Maverick was a film that I thought was perfectly made. Then I saw Dune just last year and thought...another perfectly made film.
I knew nothing about the lore of this novel or any sequels, etc.
The film was epic and magnificent and visually stunning.
I can't imagine part two being anything but the same.
March 1st can't come soon enough.
28 DAYS TO GO BABYYYYYYY
Every adaptation of a beloved novel is going to have missing elements. Parts left out, etc. Dune is no different. But without pretending to be dramatic about things like completely throwing away so many of Thufir Hawat's little plot lines, it bothers me more when LITTLE things are excused for no reason. Mainly: the Emperor is PLAINLY described as having bright red hair, and that although being in his 70s, he looked around 35 because he had free access to Melange and thus its life-extending properties.
So yeah, Walken has PRESENCE. I think he'll be a good fit as an actor. But he certainly doesn't look 35. And even if you excuse that... why couldn't you give him red hair?? THAT isn't asking a lot. Dude's probably wearing a wig anyway, just make it red like it's supposed to be. I'm still very excited to see it. :)
I'm mostly bothered by the lifeless painting of Duke being burnt, it looks like a video game image. Why not get a really well done portrait but an amazing portrait artist? I know that's strange, but it bugs me. It looks like someone used photoshop to 'paint' over a photo of him

Hawat actor was a bad choice-fat man who can barely move around (and either can’t act or was directed poorly). The character is an assassin as well as a mentat-a fighter with blood on his sleeve from killing Harkonnen leave-behinds.
Although I think your general point could be discussed, I don't think I agree with you. Not all "assassins" are lithe figures in the shadows with a dagger. Especially in the Dune universe. Plans within plans within plans implies more subtlety than what you seem to be suggesting. All that said, I thought the new Hawat was great, they just didn't do enough with him. All of his sub-plots seem to have been gutted.@@grimmWednesday

Iirc, Chani supports Paul's claim as Duke, as does Stilgar. Been waiting for these movies for 40 years. Feyd ought to be interesting, considering the Bene Gesserit considered him to wed an Atreides female, which would then produce the Kwisasz Haderach. Yet, here he is described as a psychopath. I don't know if the BG would want such a trait in a being they hoped to control. Then again, it is arguable that everyone in Herbert's books who seek power are pathological. It's even one of his aphorisms.

give a dog his meat and you can control him. remember the book does not have good or bad characters. it has characters that are good and bad. paul for example knows his presence will bring jihad in the whole universe. countless millions will die. so what does he do? he does nothing to stop jihad. paul is very very bad. remember his grandfather is harkonnen. paul is very bad. his sister eventually turns completely over to her bad self.
the book is not written from a christian perspective. in the christian perspective we have a messiah that saves mankind. herbert wrote the book showing how a messiah is bad for humanity. paul was suppose to be the messiah/worm-god, but he shirked from that position and it went to his son.
I wonder if Feyd would pass the Bene Gesserit Gom Jabbar test? Geidi Prime was supposed to be devastated by over exploitation/ pollution, while Caladan was a paradise of ecological balance. @@longnamenocansayy

the BG thought they could control things and breed the savior of mankind.

there are several clues that a higher power is at work. puny stupid men are at this higher power's discretion.
one such hint is the planet arakis. what great power turned it into a desert and peopled it with the fremen? the spice itself. how and why spice? we don't know.
and of course what great power organized the BG and allowed them to follow their foolish dreams?
the kwisatez haderach came, but when he came they were completely unawares. it was contrary to their many thousands of years of planning. he came out of time beyond their control and they stood by powerless to do anything but watch when he finally came.
so a higher force is working among the affairs of men.
we on our part, always think that our thoughts and our actions are so superior to everyone else. but in reality no.
in reality, we are all exactly like fedeh and paul muadib. if there's any difference it's an insignificant difference and we are only fooling ourselves.

These movies are the result of when the filmmaker/creator is concerned solely with authentically adapting the source material and entertaining the fans. It would seem to constitute a rather obvious and rudimentary formula, alas for certain studios (Disney) it’s not.
This has to be the 100th "final trailer" I've seen.

I’m really wish they’d do a part 3 and incorporate parts of Messiah. I know it won’t happen because Messiah was so unpopular, but people seem to think Paul is the hero and the book does a really good job of kind of fooling you, except for the subtle hints that he is not actually that great although you can totally root for his cause because they were wronged so horribly, but there are NO heroes in the story
Like the only person that I truly love is princess Irulan because she regains agency, leaves the sisterhood (when Jessica’s horrible ass goes back 😐) , instead of remaining a pawn her entire life, and she was dealt some of the worst circumstances in the book after Paul took over and accepted her lot and at least showed growth . And Alia is a tragic character as well as Leto II.
The movies are good and well made but I don’t think they portray Paul the way he is in the book. I get that the audience has to like him and root for him so they have to cut a lot of his character out and how he actually is but I just feel like that really cheapens the story but also it’s not going to be popular if people can’t root for him. And I love love Zendaya but I don’t think she’s a good Chani.
Our culture and movies very much needs a "Hero" when Frank Herbert was really pointing out how there was not a "Hero" in the end and Paul's actions did have the consequences he feared they would have. I don't know that we also get the fact that the Benegessirit were also pulling many strings in all of the houses for centuries as well while the dukes and emperors believed they were in charge.
@@blackdandelion5549 agree completely. Unfortunately this wasn’t the movie to make for the hero’s journey. Herbert did an amazing job subverting that.
On the BG, I honestly think it was just because they acted so subservient because even at the end ,the Reverend mother when she’s trying to push for Paul sister’s death literally has to stop herself because she’s like “I’ve said too much”because the men didn’t even know the BG could control the sex of the baby. And that’s some pretty major stuff right there. And also, I mean during breeding essentially, they would program a word into these men That could essentially shut them down if they ever became a threat and imagine if the men did not want to breed how the BG could completely take away their agency and do it anyways. It’s a pretty grim thought. I’m a woman and the thought of doing this to a man (or anyone) sickens me.
But Paul isn’t the hero in this one, but I have a feeling he will change the ending up and only book readers will get it. Like, maybe a subtle nod. Because they truly make him way more likable in the movie because in the book I started hating him in the tent scene.
But there aren’t any good guys in this series.

I hope more of the BG storyline comes out as we have such a "good vs evil" style about our films that seeing this with all of the players vying for control would make it a masterpiece.
@@blackdandelion5549 me too! The BG is a mixed bag. I don’t believe all are bad. They saw a threat just like Paul (except Paul can’t fully see it just like BG. Only Leto II can) and they feel justified although they do horrible things. I think they are fascinating. Their plan was doomed to fail because who could ever hope to truly control a KW? But ultimately it was a successful fail lol? Leto II just took over the breeding program.
But I love their entrance scene in dune. Draped in cloaks and walking in pouring rain.
I don’t like Paul but I’m looking forward so so much to the SILENCE scene because the RM had to be held up because she was brought to her knees. Going to be amazing seeing that. I also hope during the end fight we hear the voices telling him “USE THE WORD!” And he shouts “I will not! I will not use it” because it truly threw feyd off imo. But the BG are so interesting. So is the guild imo too. So many many players.
Although I truly hate Paul, I do root for him during dune up until he does that to irulan(personal opinion, I can relate to her in ways) and also because of messiah. But when the freeman body the emperor’s army I was cheering because the emperor was a fool. I hope they show lady margot & the count. They only had a small part but I loved them.
And yes, no heros during war. 61 billion people. And I forget how many planets “demoralized “ which reading demoralized, I was thinking I’d rather be killed than on that planet.
It’ll be a fun movie. I wish they kept Chani closer to her book counterpart but I’m so excited to see the big battle. I’m not there for Paul & Chani’s love story and I like that Herbert glossed over it in the book but he let us know throughout how important she was. I am excited about the action scenes and the baron finally getting his though. What an exciting ride.
I hope this movie starts at the point at which I fell asleep in the first one

Why is the Emperor always cast as an old actor? In the book, its stated clearly that while he's old, he only looks about 35 due to the spice.
