  • A Golfer with a Taylormade driver could not get the adapter out of the head and needed an reshaft of the driver. We try to destroy the driver to get the adapter out only to destroy the adapter. SEE HOW WE DO IT.

You have a lot more patience than I do, I thought you were going to lose it a couple of times!

Fun to share ideas on here.
I have had this issue as well. Used my adapter pulling cap screw threaded through head as original screw was. Then tapped on bolt to knock out adapter.
Vaseline is my go to anti seize for these.
Thanks for another great vid Jim.

Great vid as always Jim. Had the problems in my shop too. We now always use a little copper slip compound when we work on tip adapters. I also think that if the tip adapter has been heated a few times with shaft changes these tip adapters can become problematic with the expansion and contraction etc .

Jim.. Assuming when you pulled the shaft the Adapter stayed stuck in the head. Never had that happen. I use a Golf Mechanix /GW screw and washer set.. to remove adapter from the shaft. You’ve got a bigger !!

In my experience, you can pull the screw out of the head (a rubber washer holds it in), spray WD-40 in the opening, and take a straight allen key and hammer it out while the head is on the vice. The adapters are usually shot from all the aluminum corrosion.

You think vinegar would work, then baking soda to neutralize the acid?

Jim, if you had put a drill bit, shank first (and appropriate size for adapter .335" or .350") you can crank right down on it and know you can get a solid bite on the adapter. Hopefully you get it out easier next time with less heat and cosmetic damage to the head 🤞

Hello Jim, any tips for installing taper tip still shafts in PXG irons? I use the collared ferrules and the PXG style plastic "centering" tips. The fit is still sloppy and I've already had one head come loose. I tried dry fitting with brass shims but the PXG style plastic shaft tips actually provided a snugger fit. I used Golfworks epoxy and added some Brampton centering beads (not much). It just seems like this one size fits all hosel design seems like a ticking time bomb for failure...lol! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Just purchased a taylormade stealth 2 used. After getting the club, I tried to remove the head to make an adjustment. The shaft would not move. I remembered watching your video on how some of these adapters can get stuck with the white substance. I heated the adapter up a little, and after about 8 minutes of pulling and wiggling, the shaft came out. Is it just getting the head wet on fertilized grass that causes this? Thanks

Jim i would be interested so see if leaving the head in the freezer overnight let everything shrink down, then add heat as soon as it’s removing hopefully the outer heats up quicker then the adapter and the bond is broken.

Had this happen to a stealth driver multiple times, I took out the screw completely and used a screw driver that could get through the screw hole and hit it into the end of the adaptor with a hammer worked everytime. But mine had a lot of the Vertigre stuff but nowhere near that much 😅

It originally applied to the green stuff that grew near joint on copper tubing

Did the white stuff in the adapter cause whatever issues he was having with the club?

Have you ever tried soaking iot in KROIL for about 3 days? Kroil broke loose a 15 year old shower valve, but took several applications over a few days.

Never tried it, sounds a lot like stuff like break free.

Also, recommend treating the new adapter with anti seize compound prior to installation.
