12-5 years ago = 7
In two years, she'll be twice her age from 5 years ago, which is 14.
What times 2 = 14? 7

No, because five years ago an 8 year old cat would have been 3, which is not half of 10, which is what she would have been in two years if she was 8 now.

The wording is “Well, in two years, Luna will be twice as old as she was 5 years ago.” She’s speaking in the present and it’s a single sentence. It would be weird to change the frame of reference halfway through. It would end up more like “Well, in two years, Luna will be twice as old as she was five years before that age.”

Both of these explanations above me are wrong. The cat is currently 12.
5 years ago, she was 7. 12(current age) - 5 = 7
Currently, she is 12. (again, current age)
In two years, she will be double her age, which is 14. Current age + 2 = 14.
What doubles into 14? 7x2= 14
@𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗔𝗖𝗘𝟮𝗦𝗢𝗖𝗜𝗘𝗧𝗬 I thought that the cats current age was 12, 5 years ago it was 7 and in 2 years it will be 14 (2x as old as 5 years ago). Also it is not the current age that is 2x the ages as it was 5 years ago. It is the age that it will be in 2 years. Sorry if this was confusing

@@giannaomole1807 Your second explanation was correct but your original post, "I got 14 years." is wrong. If you took a test and put 14 instead of 12, you'd be wrong. The question isn't "How old will the cat be in 2 years?" The question is "What is the cat's current age?"
