- Today we fly our 2003 Cirrus SR20 to Sedona for the $100 hamburger flight challenge. This was the cheapest Cirrus for sale in the USA, and we flew it over 1,000 miles home after buying it in January. This was a short flight from Scottsdale, so we plan to do this often:) Nearly 150 knots and under 9 gallons per hour fuel burn, not bad! The Food at the Masa grill was fantastic!

In the Cirrus you have to make sure to mag check with full rich and boost pump on, then mag check. Make sure flaps are 50% before takeoff. Part of the takeoff sequence is to call out your speed alive on the runway and call out CAPS available when you reach chute altitude. Remember, it's not the fuel burn alone...there is a flight time dynamic too. The GFC700 will not cut loose in turbulence, but you might see a boat like effect rising and falling into a stiff headwind.
What a first airplane! Looking forward to watching you guys grow as pilots!
Thank you🙏🏻
Airline engineer here, and an A&P holder since I was 18. Looking to start flying soon, thanks for the motivation
Flew my Arrow III into Sedona many times, to date it there was no landing fee. Lovely place and great restaurant.
Very Cool! I've done that flight 50+ times in a DA40, T182 C172 KatanaDA20.. My favorite place to! You've also got to do some of the Helicopter tours in Sedona. I got my license in 1986 from Sawyer Aviation at Sky Harbor. Did all my training at Sky Harbor.
Just a reminder to everyone to read not only the NOTAMS, but the remarks too. In straight crosswinds RW3 is preferred runway, and TPA is 6000 not 5800.
Love the video guys! I also fly out of SDL with a new SR22T coming in December. Hope to see you around the airport sometime. Cheers!
So cool you boyz having your first plane and your own personal pilot/trainer - Owen is an exceptional young person, iv'e followed him and the likes of Matt G on youtube, confident pilots, nothing seems to phase them, never get flustered, very very switched on people, and great to pick up their habits and flying skills from - your only way forward is now UP
Owen is the man!! Thank you!
Jeffrey and Christian my goodness I absolutely positively get very stoked whenever I see a JR Aviation video notification. I love all of your channels however I love the Aviation one the most. I know I will have fun with you all for a fact.
Thank you as always for the support!
@@JRAviation you're very welcome Jeffrey and Christian I really want to meet you both in person sometime! I know that it will be fun. I am however not as tall unfortunately.
JR you're sooo fortunate to own toys like what you've got, flying is the best.... Owen what a cool dude, love your videos guys..
You guys definitely deserve alot more subscribers on this channel. Crisp and to the point content.
Thank you🙏🏻🙏🏻
Everyone Loves Owen!!! He's the Man!!!
Such a fun day!
JR INCEPTION
@@JRAviation lol
Owen rocks! He really knows his stuff.
Love the content. I too am in Arizona and will be buying my first plane next year. It will also be a SR20. Great planes!!!
Love the video’s! Can’t wait to start my college degree in Professional Pilot Technology in August! Hope all is well!
just did my intro flight and have my first lesson next week...happy flying guys
Sweet! Congrats! See you in the skys:)
Sedona Rwy21 has a downward slope--I prefer landing 03 unless winds are a factor.
Owen is my Spirit Animal. Lol. 🦅
Yes JR!!!!!! Great Quarantine Content
Glad you enjoy it!
I watched this vid out of order. I wonder what it feels like to know you were flying with an engine that needed replacement. WOW!
19.76 MPG not bad for a plane
Always great to see Owen. Though it will be more fun to see you two get your privates.
Sedona is always a fun approach especially flying a King Air up there is always a good challenge and the Mesa Grill can’t be beat ever.
Buttery landing 🤙🏼
Rented a Cardinal R some 15 years ago from Sedona, for a couple of hours INCREDIBLE place to fly. Mesa Grill Rocks!
Thanks from the good content boys! Such a great video again🤩
🙏🏻🙏🏻
Owen is awesome! I got to meet him at Oshkosh 2019
When you say the plane "held up GREAT" ( 1:46) when you were bringing it home... is that the same as saying IT DIDN'T CRASH!!! ??? LOL!!! I'm just jealous. Love the vids
Hey I'm a CFI based out of Scottsdale, lets go fly!
Woahh sweet! Shoot us a DM on instagram if you can.
Yessss love it bro still going strong about to watch this video
I was there Nov 2, 2020. We parked next to a Cirrus with both main tires blown. I heard they came in hot on 21 (downhill). I'm just across the valley from you. Pegasus 5AZ3. Try the huevos rancheros if you have not already.
Great video! New pilot 😎out of Portland OR. I have family in PHX. Maybe we can fly together out there when I visit! Keep up the good work!
Nice trip, video, plane. I bought a 172 this year. My dad has his PPL, I have mine, and my son has his.
This is crazy just saw this video and I live in Sedona Arizona next time you guys fly or drive down here let me know so I can show you around
Great video as always!!!! Keep at it!
Great quick trip in the Cirrus
Live this videos I live in sedona and been watching for awhile. Like how its relatable since I live here.!! Love Jr garage also
We need more flying content !!!!! Are you guys doing flight training yet?
Yes, started ground school 2 weeks ago
@@JRAviation Excellent! looking forward to new aviation videos :)
That Burger looks so good
Bro, PHENOMENAL😮
I wana Burga lol .. top class guys , done with the car vids douge lets bring this on
I know this video is a couple years old.
I am 50 yrs old starting my flying career and these guys are my heros. Getting a cirrus before their liscense. Prolly the smartest thing to do. Then have a mate like Owen to help ferry the thing. LOL.
I am thinking like they are. Go get my own plane to save some money (i have a great instructor). Invest in myself and not rent. have a pretty good job but i can not come close to affording a cirrus. Any secrets you can pass on nothing specific for secruity reasons. I am just trying to get ideas on how to do this. . Like how did you find the plane? How you financed it tbru a bank (heard on blog say go thru a mortage company since it will be the price of a small house)? Did you make on offer before it was inspected or after?.
I do not have friedms or family but my instructor is more than willing to help me ferry any plane i buy back to Dallas.
Any tips on how to start this would be helpful.
Question for Owen, what's it like going from steering wheel to joy stick when flying ?
Got my PPL 3 months ago. I’m from Lapeer, MI so if you’re ever around let’s fly!
Hi guys! Great escape. I lost track after the video I saw. Did the overhaul fix all problems?
I should be soloing within this week, so cool to see you guys learning as well!
Awesome, congrats!
Great flight, I’m also a Cirrus pilot and have been looking to fly to Sedona from LA sometime soon! Flying a new G6 SR20, couldn’t be happier. Would love to connect!
Love the videos, congrats on the plane! Please find a good checklist to use to not rely on acronyms and memory. Maybe I missed it but did anyone run even a single checklist on the whole flight ?
Yes very true. We did have checklists our but they didn’t make the edit.
Great video! Looking forward to new content!!!
Hey guys! Love your videos! I’m a CFI out of Prescott and have flown many times into Sedona and Scottsdale! If you ever need a CFI for a flight or anything I’d love to teach or help both of y’all!
Hey there! Thanks for the comment, can you send us a message on Instagram?
JR Aviation just messaged you on insta! Thanks guys
Hey!, it’s worth it. I eat their also, YUM !
Well shot video
My father has a cirrus SR22T G5 which i take flight lessons in. I love having the parachute on board. Ever thinking of getting an avionics upgrade in yours? I think you would like it more than your current avionics.
We definitely plan to do some avionics upgrade soon!
Dope video!!!
You should hop across the valley to pegasus! We can go fly
Fantastic content!
The RV-12 does 4.5 GPH.
Nice
Just showing love..
Hello Jeffrey and your brother
Hello!
Love from INDIA
Good flight, ditch the pink head gear bro...
Will you guys need an A + P at some point next Next may or sometime around then? Cuz I’m in Aviation maintenance school and will Graduate next April. Would love to be able to work straight out of school
C'mon guys. You'd had this plane for five months at the time of this recording and neither one of you even has your VFR yet? You're not taking this seriously.
I loved sedona when i vacationed there. Took a jeep on the rocks. Fun as fuck
😯 I work there at Mesa grill
Yooo you got some good food!
Good to hear !! Would love to meet you guys next time your in Sedona ..
Nice Vid! What camera do you use?
more content guys keep it up
Just a lil video idea, plane giveaway maybe??????
Maybe one day! Mercedes is first!
@@JRAviation woah, that would be amazing. Its my dream to one day be able to fly anywhere. In love with planes and also cars and I came here from your main channel. Hope to also own a mk1 miata one day
A $100 hamburger nowadays is going to your base airport to have lunch and then start up taxi and fly around the pattern and land for full stop
True 😂
If you’re ever in Cincinnati let me know and we can go fly 👌
Nice!
Thanks!
So sick that you guys own a plane
The only way to get the $100 nowadays is start your airplane contact ground and bring your airplane for takeoff. Once you're in the air immediately return for landing after a couple of touch and goes 2 maybe 3. Proceed to the ramp to the airport restaurant and walk there for lunch. If you want to fly more than that then fly for half an hour and once you land walk to the nearest McDonald's.
How far along are y’all in your PPL? Need to get that done amigo !!
Do you two hold a pilot “certificate”?
My license is also coming along very slowly. Can't fly my plane either. It is a luxury problem but a problem nonetheless :)
I wonder what’s the top speed in that thing
155 Knots true airspeed. About 180 mph.
Don't fly too slow... nice video.
I'm a Pilot from Massachusetts. If you're ever there let me know and we can go for a flight.
How many hours do you have in?
I’m a student pilot and fly a cirrus occasionally
I want fly so badddd :( hopefully I can get my private pilot license one day
When are you starting your PPL training?
Doing some engine and avionics work on the play next month, so hopefully soon after that!
How long did it take to fly each direction to Sedona and back to scottsdale?
30 something minutes each way!
Does the plane shake a lot or does it look worse on camera?
Both haha
Just one more comment. The wear you found is from a very poor quality OIL. Time to change to Lucas High Performance Full Synthetic Racing Oil. Look into it.
You know these guys are still getting into aviation when they completely ignore the TBM behind them.
Hay guys how come your not showing training vids and why aren't you flying your own selves around yet
I need a plane an pilot licence
Just got my ppl, 17 years old, looking at the SR-20
Damn son, we're #1 in COVID and this still going on? No wonder my dad whosworks at the ER hasnt had a day off in 3 weeks huh
This was filmed pre corona
