This Hurricane was amazing, this storm brought a storm surge never seen before in NJ and NY! The size just wiped out the shore! 15 foot storm surge. Winds over 90 mph extending over 500 miles and rains extending over 1,000 miles! 75B in damage just amazing remember Storm Surge is the worst part of a Hurricane and Sandy really showed it!

I remember experiencing hurricane sandy as a kid
Its a category 3 hurricane and people made a big fuss over it
I didn't understand why but I realized
Hurricane sandy is the 2nd largest hurricane of all time
It's absolute perfection
And despite its size it was only a category 3 hurricane
Hurricane Sandy is an extremely rare one of a kind hurricane
It was like all the storms in the world got together to cause disaster
Technically it's the largest hurricane on record because Typhoon Tip is called a typhoon. But aside from their names and place of origins, hurricanes and typhoons are the same. The likes of Hurricane Sandy made me look at non-Category 5 storms more seriously.
Sandy was actually a Cat 3 in the Carrribean. It weakened to a Cat 1 when it hit NJ. What made Sandy so devastating was it’s surge, left hand turn, and immense size as it transitioned into an extratropical cyclone making landfall. Sandy also had a pressure of a Cat 4 (940 milibars) but it’s large size caused a weaker pressure gradient force causing weaker winds. But those winds being prolonged is what made Sandy devastating

It’s why I dislike the Safforn Simpson Hurricane wind scale. It only looks at wind and not at other impacts such as surge or rainfall. It’s why I prefer to look atmospheric pressure (which Sandy had a cat 4 pressure despite only being a cat 1) or use a new system completely.

@@robertcedano6668 source? Sandy peaked at a Cat 3 near Cuba and as a Cat 1 in NJ. Don’t just start making things up. Sandy wasn’t a Cat 4 ever. It had a pressure of one as it became Post-Tropical over NJ. But it’s expansive wind field loosened the pressure gradient causing only cat 1 winds.

I left the Jersey shore in Long Branch before this storm. I predicted a direct hit many years ago after hurricanes started move towards South Carolina.

I was in Trenton NJ the Night Sandy Hit & The Damn Eye passed kinda over me. We lost power for about 12 Hours only- On the same Grid as the State House so NJ 😂 Bureaucracy payed off in one very small way-The rest of NJ,PA,NY Conn..all lost power for Months. Coastline destruction & inland for miles & miles. It was an intense experience. Got a little taste of what the rest of America goes through on the Daily. Pretty Cool & Horrible sh*t.
