- Caddy Maxi Life. Installing a Plywood and Vinyl Floor. I'm converting My Caddy into an off-grid camper. Join me for the whole series
In this video I will show you how I added sound deadening, insulation, and a plywood floor and finished it all off with vinyl flooring for that professional look.
I chose the Volkswagen Maxi life as I need to use it as a family vehicle and to commute to work. I wanted a compact, reliable and fuel-efficient vehicle.
As I convert the van I will take you on the journey, if you are new to the channel hopefully you will stick around for the whole series where I will work on new flooring, off-grid electrics, cooking, beds, and seating, upholstery and curtains. And if landscape photography is your thing, check out the landscape photography videos, because that's my normal content and the whole point of getting this camper on the road!
I am a Landscape Photographer based in the Uk. So apologies to my landscape photography followers you are going to have to suffer another Uk landscape photographer converting his van. But bear with me the result is more landscape photography, more locations and adventures to share with you.

Impressive. Great job👍
Nice Vid. Any tips on how to remove the rear side panels to get to the rear speakers? I want to put a backboard into the tailgate door for a pair of 6x9s and run the wires up the sides of the back window. I’ll need to go through the rubber connector boots at the roof and down on the inside to join the old speaker wires.
Not realy, its just standard pesky panel clips. I can’t remember the exact sequenced I used. Not 100% sure but I think I had to uscrew some self tapper once I got the panel off to get access to the speakers. Not big issue for me as was just replacing the side panels and sticking with the existing speakers. I can remember all teh clips being but of a pain as it always feels like something is going to break!
I see that this original floor carpet is rather thick and has some insulation - could you leave it in and just put floor board and vinyl on top of it?
No not really. It’s a very low roof so every mm of head space is important. I also needed. A firm base to bolt the furniture to and the original would have been to spongy.
The Reimo Caddy installations do just that. I presume they use the lashing points to hold down the floor.
