Crescent Falls and Abraham Lake || Exploring in Nordegg, Alberta

  • The Nordegg region in Alberta, Canada is a highly underrated area, despite it having so much to see and do! If you want to get away from the touristy crowds of Banff and Jasper, then head out to Nordegg, which is still nestled in the magnificent foothills of the Rocky Mountains with incredible views. In this video, we will look specifically at Crescent Falls in the Nordegg area.
    Join Marti from "Down the Wrabbit Hole" as she and her intrepid kiddos explore the upper Crescent Falls, then descend down some slippery cliffs to see the sights from the lower bowl. Afterwards, enjoy a beautiful picnic at the shores of spectacular Abraham Lake.

    Please note that the climb down to the lower bowl of the falls is on the steep side, with slippery shale rocks, and is not technically considered a trail. As well, there are no safety rails in the lower bowl and I beg anyone who visits to stay well away from the edge. Visiting the lower bowl is a "do so at your own risk" so know your own limitations and be smart. Alberta Parks and this channel are not responsible for accidents resulting from visits to the lower bowl.

    Water is the master traveler, makes his own path, creates heavenly surroundings, transforms into clouds in order to see the world from above..moves far and wide..
    And Marti is an ardent follower of the Master.
    Your kids are equally amazing .

      We seem to catch sight of the wild horses every time we head that way. I love them too! :) My long-term plan is to get my kids hooked on travel and adventuring, and then convince them I'm the best travel partner to have, and then they'll take me on all their trips when they get older. That's the plan, anyway. LOL

    • @DowntheWrabbitHole
      @DowntheWrabbitHole  Před 4 lety +1

      The lake has that weird colour because of what they call "glacial rock flour", ground up minerals and sediment that comes from glacial run-off when glaciers melt into the river in warmer weather. In the winter, that sediment settles to the bottom and the lake gets really clear - you can see all the way to the bottom. But in the summer, the lake is murky with that sediment and it gives it that beautiful colour. :)

      I love the colour of Abraham Lake in the summer! I have a winter video on the lake as well where I show you how it traps bubbles inside the ice - it's a really cool natural phenomenon! :)

    Thank you so much for this video your family looked like they had a great time :) I'm taking my 78 year olt the David Thompson resort . Crescent Falls Looks perfect she'll be able to go right to the lookout from the parking lot I'm thrilled Do you think Abraham lake is easy 2 access and enjoy for a lunch we don't wanna hike and not walk very far very far thank you so much.

      Crescent Falls is very easy to access, especially if you can find parking in the lower area. There is overflow parking a bit up the road away from the falls, which then makes for a bit of a hike down the road, so I suggest you go a little earlier. Abraham Lake has many different viewing spots, some that have a bit of a hike to them as well. But none of them are that strenuous, so if your hiking partner is in fairly good physical condition they should be okay.

We have big river here, the Ohio and Kentucky, but not as beautiful as this.. anyways, lots of activities in this place to do and the waterfalls that’s for sure, your kids enjoyed watching. • @DowntheWrabbitHole
      @DowntheWrabbitHole  Před 4 lety +3

      Swimming in the water is definitely not recommended! This is a double waterfall with an extremely swift current no matter where near the falls you decide to go. I heard about the drowning too, a very tragic story. :(

    Saw your Siffleur Falls video and now this. I am confused now if I should go Crescent Falls or Siffleur especially if I am doing a day trip, driving from Edmonton.

    • @DowntheWrabbitHole
      @DowntheWrabbitHole  Před 2 lety +2

      Siffleur Falls definitely has the better hike, with some incredible views and the hike actually takes some time. Crescent Falls is hardly even a hike, just a quick stroll away from the parking lot, but the falls are more picturesque in my opinion. So I guess it depends on what kind of experience you are looking for. Siffleur is a further drive away than Crescent as well, so keep that in mind. And have fun!!!

      Sweaters, a water bottle, a couple little snacks, and then room to store toys, books, play dough, rocks, and whatever they decide is crucial for a hike in nature. LOL

      We got there around 11 a.m. I did learn afterwards that there is an overflow parking lot just up the road - we drove past it but it said "Horse Riding Staging Area" and I thought it was reserved for horse riding groups. It is not - you can park there if the lower parking is full! :) Have a wonderful visit!

      I'm not sure the official name for this section of the lake, but last summer they were building a parking lot alongside the road where we had parked when I filmed this. You should be able to find it quickly if you look for the newest parking pad! :) I hope that helps!
