Beat me to it lol
WOO!
Laugh out loud ladies 😃
Holy shit Ambrose is GOING OFF
Whoever runs their sound at KEXP is a wizard, crispest lives
Stu mixes the sound for KEXP performances lol
@@flan_fan1234Does this confirm that Stu is the Lizard Wizard??
Every damn time!
What a fucking beast Stu is god dayum @@flan_fan1234
The ability to bring music all the way to the edge of chaos, where you think it's all going to fall apart, but still hold it together and keep it sounding gorgeous...that's what happened here
Taoism says meaning is found on the boarder of order and chaos. As close to disaster as possible. It's exciting, it's where discoveries are made
Dude, i love your comment, it describes this song perfectly. I felt this tought was in the tip of my tounge but i couldnt describe it. (Sorry for the broken english)
Brilliantly put.
Is it still a guitar solo if there are three of them happening at once? Whatever we call it, I love it.
what a great comment! so true!!
I’ve watched this over 20 times. It quite literally cannot get old
The way Lucas’ plays those bass lines are kinda crucial to Gizz, he really is the best.
And on the Sleeping Monster doc he talked about how he feels like he's behind all the other band members in terms of skill. I'd strongly disagree as I don't think there's a single weak member. Lucas is a total beast on the bass, and all 4 of their drummers are killing it.
it takes a very specific kind of bassist to be able to keep up with Cav's drumming. Cavs is an absolute beast on the drums, and Lukey provides the perfect low-end to conquer that beast.
Most underrated member of the band IMO
Listening to their 2019 KEXP recording too, so much of Infest the Rats' Nest relies on his bass riffs too
thanks to these live videos it really shows how amazing he is. Now when I listen to the studio albums I really pay attention to the bass.
Great comment bro .
definitely my favorite of the new songs. ambrose's screaming always gets to me.
Same here!! Almost any song with Ambrose singing is one of my favorites and this is no exception for me! Combined with Amby’s screaming and the hard jam at the end make it my favorite of their new songs and maybe top 5 King Gizzard songs all time!
Saw him live over the summer. They way he screams some of the lyrics to straws in the wind is wild
🐸😮💨♨️⛺️
truly a different kind of cuttlefish
everything in it's right place. Radiohead meets mars Volta, at both of their upper echelon stuff.
This is one of their greatest songs, not just from Gizztober but in their whole discography. Change my mind 💅
idk changes and astroturf are balling
Irrooonnnnn luuuuuuuuuung
as a fan I agree
It’s definitely in my top 50 kglw songs
Was blown away by this song.
Ambrose went IN on the FROG BREATH STEAM TENT!
Maaan Lucas is one of the best bass players but he didnt realize how fucking good he is
Man, Ambrose kills it on this performance.
They ALL killed it
Every performance tbh
I've been thinking about an SNL type skit where he keeps bringing out more and more instruments to play, all while being perfectly pitched. I mean, I don't write skits, or anything else for that matter, but that type of vignette comes into my mind whenever I hear this song. Any illustrators out there want to bring this to life for me??
Amby and cookie make the band go from great to god tier
I could listen to this song on a ten hour loop
The riff at 5:14, and Amby just belting at 5:30, will forever give me chills. Need this released please!
for real
saur true
same riffs
FROG BREATH STEAM TENT
This is already known as "that part" of Iron Lung
The problem here is these recordings/performances are always exponentially better than the record version.
likewise with iron maiden and even with king krule and staff preferred the live versions than the discography versions
Is it a problem though? Album version is great as well! But this is just next level. 🤯
It's kinda like how cheating in a video game makes it not as fun to play. Recording techniques are kinda like "cheating."
album still is great, but the live performance is where they'll win you over
No problem here
We're gonna need more Ambrose lead vocal parts going forward, lads.
He's an actual singer. I love Stu (as a fellow Stu) but he's not a singer.
@@stuartweston7644 I mean, for what they've been doing Stu has been great! But I feel like they're going to go to another level with more of a twin vocal attack
check out “the murlocs” if you want more ambrose singing, great band
@@slickmechanical Amby fronts his own band (with Cook) called "The Murlocs". Check it out!
Oh, Yes - Undone and Unashamed is amazing@@GuyWhoLikesTheSnarkies1435
As a man formerly known as Young Neil once said after a live performance "you should see them live, they're much better live"
you are rewatching this and you are a legend
Man, I'm 69 and only just found this. Brilliant. How the hell did they find there way back?!
Greatest band of the modern era.
You're in for a treat , such fantastic music from a huge amount of albums
One of the greatest bands of our time.
all time :)
time band great 👍
One of the greatest bands to ever play.
Really not that exceptional.. My mind can be changed tho. This video just proves not that
@@mikomaxwell6313 Listen to their entire discography and then you'll see.
Best drummer in Australia. Also best band on earth.
Fuck yes.
I swear KEXP is some kind of magical nexus that appears midway through long tours where the genius of a song's writing and composition is paired with the hermetic air tightness of untold live shows and somehow captures something that is impossible to even think about recording in a studio or any other performance.
I like your username and you really hit the nail on the head with this description. This is exactly it. That is where/how they capture such magick. That and their audio engineers.
The value of these recordings to just cataloging the culture of the early 21st century music is ridiculous. They should be given special status by the Library of Congress or something.
I'm an old rocker from the 80's metal scene. I dug the 90's something fierce. Not since then, have I been impressed....until discovering King Gizz. My Gen Z kiddo turned me onto them. As young as they are, they have hall of fame potential, heck, they may already be there(in my opinion, they are). Gives me a lot of hope for this next generation.
I hope god listen to you
THE ULTIMATE KEXP LIVE BAND
I always follow Stu's guidance. When he says "Ok let's go", it's time to get gizzy wit it 💃🦎
Love that shit
These guys are amazing, and the best part of them is, that they're not envious of each-other, they know the gift they have and the bond they have created, no one thinks of themselves as better than the next guy. Its exciting to be alive to experience the The Lizard.
couldn’t be better well said. Awsome band
@@raddude4826 thanks dude.
I’d argue to say that they think the other members are better than themselves. They look up to each other.
@@LaDarko good way of putting it, you can see this a lot in the tour documentary they released as well
Stu and Joey look like they were going as Hall and Oates for Halloween
Gizz should just release a full KEXP live album. Just sayin...they sound great in that studio!!
They really should, This might be favourite version of any Gizz song ever. Even just this on Spotify and I’m happy
Do a vinyl set with the audio from all their appearances, donate the proceeds to keeping KEXP going. That station is just as much of a cultural gem as the band is.
I am a metal head through and through. Buddy recommended this band and I fell in love the moment I heard that sax. What a fantastic combination of styles and sounds. I can listen to this song over and over and just focus in on different instruments. 10/10 very epic band
KGLW is the King Crimsom from our era change my mind
How tf does Michael play that good for that long. Like there's slow parts and he's still going crazy on the drums the whole time. The boys never give him a break
he's got persistence.
This is the thing that sets King Gizzard apart from even other psych bands, the studio version of this sounds like an impromptu psych jam but the bar that the guitar solo becomes a refrain, the drums recognise that and go heavy on the bell to accentuate it. It seems free flowing but it’s all heavily orchestrated. Even in a 10 minute song everyone knows their part at all times. Fucking excellent
6:38 holy FUCK ambrose kills this. Instant chills down my spine
With most bands one would say "what an awesome set" but with King G it's a single song. This was on fire, loved it 🔥
They did 3 songs
Love that bassline so much.
It helps that Lucas looks sexy as all hell while playing it
which one? there were like a million bass riffs xD
Yess Yess Yess!!
Amby. What an excellent vocal
My favorite all time band since Radiohead. To be able to put out this quality of music in such a short time frame is truly a special accomplishment. However pessimistic I may be about modern rock these guys give me hope. A truly singular band. No one is comparable
There's a lot of good modern rock! Check out elder for example. Reflections of a floating world is the shit
@@TC-lk2ev Yeah elder are sick
How do you come from a boring band like Radiohead to King Gizzard? You know there have been bands like Gizzard for years, right? Probably weren't on Spotify so you have to do a bit of effort since they're not a mainstream radio band.
@@TC-lk2ev Elder is one of my favorites but only Dead Roots and Lore, after that it's soooo progressive.
@@lennertcornette Killjoy
8:15 that transition from unbridled chaos to (almost zen?) quiet is otherworldly. Like coming to accept death in your final moments after fighting it for a while 😶🌫️
Edit: timestamp
Exactly… this song is about dying on a ventilator, so the sonic hurricane then release makes some sense imo
Shr00ms and this song 😅
It's like "hey" from rhcp! Gives me exactly the same fillin
@@travisthornton1792 it's actually about literally living in an iron lung. search polio in the 50s, really sad story
@@Dr.J.KonopinskiI’m aware of the historical reference, but Gizz has more recently been writing songs with references to current events; and the video has modern images thrown in, not images from the 50s; so I think it’s more current than historical
This is the best thing I’ve heard in years. Thank God someone is making music that is good.
Ty I’m in love with them and I’m going to see them in Los Angeles in two months. Try “All Them Witches” too. Love them too but they are no King Gizzard.
For ATW try “Blood and Sand/Milk and Endless Waters” and “Mama is a Shining Star.” Also, Joey from KGLW has a project called “Bullant” and Ambrose from KGLW is in The Murlocs.
THEY SHOULD RELEASE A LIVE ALBUM OF THIS JUST SAYING MY BROTHERS IN CHRIST IT IS WHAT IT IS THAT IS IT. 🤝🏻🤝🏻🤝🏻🛵💦
The Grateful Dead and Phish paved the way for jam bands like this to thriiive. Its honestly incredible how talented these guys are.
Also WEEN, the OG genre chameleon
they are not a jamband
I always think if ween was just starting out they would have just as many albums/videos as KGLW. I can just imagine what the record company was thinking when they walked in saying our next album is country..we need the a team from Nashville.
Ween isn’t a jam band, but boy can they jam.
this track is so intense, it builds up into a tornado of sounds, almost feeling claustrophobic...I feel on edge and anxious but just at the right moment before it becomes too much ( 8:30 ) the storm passes and you're plonked on a quiet beach and it's calm and relaxed. The anxiety is ripped away and replaced with a zen-like feeling...it's so freaking good!
moment of silence for the brilliance of Australia's very own flagship supergroup of new age psych rock
Fuck ya.
I would like to be there in the next cycle. There's some psychedelic burst happening there.
It wasn't until this performance that I realized how amazing this song is. Probably my favorite song of the year, now.
I only fully managed to appreciate this song after seeing it live in concert
Love them, one of the all time great bands.
How many harmonies do we want to put into this song?
Yes.
This song live is possibly the best of their KEXP saga thus far
I'm on day 2 of "discovering" these guys and man they're fuckin amazing! I haven't been blown away like this by anything "new" in a while. Looking forward to checking out their catalog which, from what I've seen in comments, is quite extensive.
Yea man. They release like 3-5 albums a year. Crazy. If you're into psychedelics, take some and listen to Polygondwanaland, it's absolutely crazy front to back while tripping.
Dig in. Welcome to the rabbit hole, a album for every mood.
How’s it going lol
I can’t believe these guys are actually real, holy shit!
probably the best guitar band in the world right now. and every other instrument is utilized perfectly. wow
All them witches are getting up there for me too.
@@garthkite All Them Witches is my favorite band in the world right now, their music just clicks me on a spiritual level! I'm seeing them all three days the play at the Troubadour in may!
6:24 when Lucas comes in with that bassline to back up Stu and Joey and Cookie, it really pulls it all together behind Ambrose ripping it on the vocals, seriously masterful stuff at work
Blows the studio version out of the water. Absolutely brilliant
Just like every other Gizzard live versions do :D
Yeah is it a different arrangement??
@@ashleymenegon6319 yeah they jam a bit on the live, but this recording is their best live of the song i think
"the lizard band" as my friends calls them; is back on kexp! letsgoooo
This is my first foray into this band (I'd heard good things but never took the time to listen) and I was already vexed going into the video as I had to sit through 40 seconds of unskippable ads and thought to myself "this better be good!"
By Christ was it fucking good!
fuck they got good brains to remember all that.
Joey is a legit fashion icon
Ive been listening to this song alot lately, the jam is something else and its better live, ive had a rough week and waking up to watch something while a have coffee and see this made my day
i like how you can tell how joey is a metal head by the way he’s playing even when he’s not playing metal. like get it?
KGATLW is just a different cuttlefish!
They bring it up to a beautifully organized chaos then bring it down to serene preciousness. King Gizzy and the Lizzy Wizzy is the best band to stand on this earth. No one does it like them
Gizz functions perfectly as an orchestra organism. The perfection of this studio makes them truly shine. Production is impeccable. KEXP forever the best.
This version of this track is what made KGLW click for me. I’ve been obsessed with these weirdos ever since
still get chills when ambrose takes the mic and screaming. that passion is like none other
Music is alive and well... right here.
this is easily one of their best tracks ever. its just so good.
I've had the flu for the past few days and all that goes round in my head on a feverish loop is this, Mycelium and Magma. Not complaining
Too fucking good. Too fucking good.
Two fucking goog
1:30 I love that break with just stu and the bass
Also the resolution/piano transition at 8:26 is fucking magic
I've said 3 years ago, when KG released Rat's Nest, that these guys are at the peak of their career.
I'm very happy to be proven wrong.
Still waiting for a reggae album
Huh
That would be dope
RATTLESNAKERATTLESNAKERATTLESNAKERATTLESNAKE

Each one a super talented musician! Always love hearing Ambrose vocals on a track!
This is the best recorded version of this song
Love how Stu is rocking the Patagonia snap T 😂
Dad mode.
Iron lung is awesome blast it loud.
6 months later and this song still absolutely fucks, brilliant all around
Maaaaan the drumer is a monster, i love it, godamn!!!
Every Lizard's performance on KEXP sounds freakin' awesome.
Cavs drums sounds groovy. Super rocking!!
KG&LW's sound through the years captured on one album 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Ngl i prefer the KEXP performances over the studio recordings by a longshot, the energy is better with these performances
@@chost-059 Maybe it's cause they use that garage filter on several albums, that makes them sound raw or grungy, but it's completely intentional.
But you're right, they sound awesome on live, mate
I can't believe Ambrose put his entire Gizzussy into this.
The tension build up in feeling and comprehending that collaboration of intensity in music blows my mind. I rejoice in your creativity and skill and if I had an iron lung this song would cure it lol.
this song sent my down the rabbit hole
when i want to introduce a friend to King Gizzard, not only i recommend Iron lung, but also this specific performance
Saw the live debut of this song at desert daze this year. It was by far my favorite of the set, the vocals sound exquisite
Unreal moment
Take him to the lake!
i've listened to a couple king gizzard albums but this is the first live performance i've watched. i love that there's 5 guitars going at any given moment. this rocks
I return to this specific performance all the time. God it's great.
The coolest set of blokes about.
never seen stu use the whammy bar like that. insane
Same, I just never thought I’d see this in Gizz.
The best band of the time imo
not too sure how i ended up here but glad i did
Honestly one of the best live performances here on youtube. What an experience
This is the best tune about the treatment of polio that I've ever heard!
The current theme tune at Friday teatime Hebden Bridge skatepark session ✌️
first time hearing something from this band, though i've heard their name a ton. i'm in absolute awe
The guitar riff from Stu at 4:12 makes this so damn good! Definitely better than the studio version. I wished they used that riff a bit more in the song.
That part gets me every time, I completely agree. One of my favorite licks
I was looking for this comment. It feels really mournful
You're definitely blowing fresh air into the psychedelic genre with with controlled chaotic approach! Taking the essence of classic psychedelic musics longevity and then turning up the pace is doing wonders to the genre!
Controlled chaotic approach 👌 great description ✌️
I almost forgot to listen to this today
I like how they take turns. Very Roxy Music of them, and I like where they're headed. This is one song where it sort of makes sense to have three guitars and an alternate singer. Shows the passion, and gives each band member time to shine
I can’t stop rewatching this!
Hey, oh
I'm in jail
Body failed
Now it's me and my iron lung (woo)
Wrapped in iron, deathless purgatory
Negative pressure, airless breath
Wrapped in iron, breathless purgatory
Positive pressure, airless death (woo)
It's a different kind of cuttlefish
Swing and a miss
Dancing with my eyes and lips
Can't move my hips
Keep my mind distracted from the swish-swish
Staying sane and positive
Can't crumble like a biscuit
Iron lung, iron lung
Iron lung, iron lung
Space shuttle, snail shell
Merry go round, conveyor belt
The army tank ventilator
Mechanical bull respirator
Metallic cocoon boredom
Bionic boy, pump my organs
Centre gravity, planet me
Gimme the mushrooms, time to leave
Iron lung, iron lung
Iron lung, iron lung (woo)
Frog breath, steam tent
Neck paralysis
Frog breath, steam tent
Scared precarious
Frog breath, steam tent
Neck paralysis
Congestion in my chest
Pins and needles
Like a voodoo evil
Got my doctor baffled
Every breath is an uphill battle
Frog breath, steam tent
Neck paralysis
Congestion in my chest
Frog breath, steam tent
Neck paralysis
Frog breath, steam tent
Scared precarious
Frog breath, steam tent
Neck paralysis
Sedated death
Hey, oh
The ship sailed
Train derailed
Now it's me and my iron lung
Wrapped in iron, deathless purgatory
Negative pressure, airless breath
Wrapped in iron, breathless purgatory
Positive pressure, airless death (woo)
It's a different kind of cuttlefish
Swing and a miss
Dancing with my eyes and lips
Can't move my hips
Gotta keep my mind distracted from the swish-swish
I'm staying sane and positive
Can't crumble like a biscuit
Iron lung, iron lung
Iron lung, iron lung
Cylindrical prison, newly arisen
Chained to a giant paper weight
Pain abates
Yet darkness permeates
Wallows my toes, burdens my chest
My brain is pressed with an iron chest
Iron lung, iron lung
Iron lung, iron lung
Amazing! This song s been on repeat since release. Just purchased tickets too see them live too 😄
Heard a couple people at work dropping the name king gizzard & the lizard wizard and came to check it out.. wow
How long until we get Lucas and Cavs on vocals? It feels like we are overdue.
Lucas was actually on vocals with Stu in the very very very early days, though he never recorded vocals for a studio track to my knowledge
