I remember the days when I would stare, blankly, at the Bourbon shelves and be so overwhelmed that I would never buy anything (my knowledge, to that point, being that of slamming shots of JD...which I couldn't stand.) Now, thanks to a small herd of local whiskey lovers, this channel, Whiskey Tribe, It's Bourbon Night, SLB Drinks, and Bourbon Real Talk, my comfort zone has expanded greatly. I have bought glencairns, started training my nose and taste buds to savor the elixer, have an 86 bottle collection, from Imported whiskies to the local fare, gotten bit by the Rye bug (yum), and am a budding hunter, trying to build my network so I can attain those harder-to-get whiskies from other states.
To all those that have helped me find whiskey, and enjoy it for the craft it truly is, I thank you!

Matt, I started watching your channel about a year ago and your goofy reviews making me laugh whilst being spot on and extremely informative. After 16 years of drinking whisky, still, I cannot be reminded often enough of the basics.

Thanks for educating us bourbon newbies. I'm in the process of reading a lot of labels and finding out what I really like. One important truth I have found. just because a bourbon is cheap, doesn't mean it's bad. just because a bourbon is expensive doesn't mean I'm going to love it. The taste buds never lie to me. That's why they call them buds.

You are so right on the $50.00 bourbon. I don't know how these guys get away with that!!! I look at their prices and I am astounded what they charge for such young and crappy bourbon. There was this new 1 in our local store. They were trying to hook you on their story, that my great grandfather was a bootlegger and this is his best recipe, price 90.00!!!! Are you freaking kidding me???!?!!?!

Matt, that Calumet looks to be hitting its shelf life. Get some friends over and polish it off. Also I like to say, generally, If the brand your looking for has a cask strength or bottled in bond version, just buy that one. Maybe it costs another $10 or $20 but its worth it. I personally haven't had any luck with wheated bourbons (yet). They tend to be almost to floral for my taste. ( Like drinking cologne)
