UPDATE: MG Comet prices are out! Variant-wise prices below -
Pace - Rs 7.78 lakh
Play - Rs 9.28 lakh
Plush - Rs 9.98 lakh
All prices are ex-showroom.
This makes Tata Tiago look even better. I mean by value.
Underlines the fact that the Nano 5 door was a great design, let down by poor product placement and safety issues. Imagine a 5 door Nano EV, with 4 -5 star NCAP rating at 7 lakhs !
It'll sell very well even if it's just 3 star rated 😂
The rating won't even matter if Tata places it as an urban runabout only. The convenience of rear doors is an absolute boon. Wonder what's stopping Tata even now... 15kwh battery with tiago's motor, 120-150km range should work, no need to plonk it with gimmicky features as well.
Tata tiago ev calls!
This will increase sales of Tiago EV.
It is definitely a premium offering. Might be primarily brought by well to do families as a second car for city runs/daily commutes. It is definitely expensive for small families or individuals looking for their first or only vehicle 😅. But this is the best car to drive in the city as of now.

Also, error at 9:10! Nikhil meant brake pedal :-)
It is intriguing as 3rd car. Subject to price though. The tiago still has the upper hand.
Tiago is much much better value proposition at this price range. Looks good, build is good, range is acceptable. I don't know what is the thought process behind designing such a polarizing looks when the competition has far better product. All that money spent in R&D could have been used wisely.
Nice Video. I believe the base version of MG Comet should have been priced at a maximum on-road price of Rs. 6 or 6.5 lakh. The higher-end features such as the touch screen infotainment system and reverse parking camera could have been offered as options only for the top variant.
The MG Comet's compact size, limited range, and minimal boot space, combined with a negligible price difference with the Tiago EV, do not justify its price.
For individuals from lower and middle-income groups, the price is the most critical factor when purchasing a car. While safety features such as airbags are necessary, compromises can be made on high-end features. For instance, an AUX/Bluetooth music system can be provided instead of a touch screen infotainment system, reverse parking sensors instead of reverse parking cameras, and dashboard controls instead of steering mounted controls.
To encourage the majority of Indians to shift towards EVs, it is vital that an EV car is available within their budget range (between 3 to 6 lakh, at which they purchase a used petrol/diesel car) that can perform the basic function of transportation from point A to point B at a minimal running cost (thanks to its EV technology), and includes basic air conditioning and a music system.
Given these compromises, MGMotorIndia should have priced the Comet at around Rs. 6.5 lakh on-road. This would have put it in direct competition with internal combustion engine vehicles, and middle-class individuals would have considered purchasing a new EV car within their budget instead of a used petrol/diesel car.
This would also enable MG Motors to attract a larger customer base, making Comet as an anchor and even upsell premium cars to some of them. It is worth considering this option as it could prove to be a key to the brand's success.
Great review. Your presentation is excellent as usual.
Autocar reviews are always anticipated after the launch of the car, This video was detailed and well-explained.
Really thorough for a first drive Nikhil 👍
An honorary mention of TATA being the Battery pack provider, MG is trying hard to market upon Tata’s ev success and trust.
I am just Under 6’ tall never gets old!! 😅 Amazingly detailed video!! Super like!
Over priced for India..costs 4.5 Lakhs for top variant in china called Wuling Hongguang Mini EV at US$5,607
It's not wuling mini. That is a different model with less features. This one is their global model - wuling Air. And we cannot directly compare prices of product by basic currency conversion.
Exactly. If it costed 5lakh, people may have genuinely wanted to buy it instead of a second hand Alto
This is surely gonna be a game changer for MG, great👍🏻
An unnecessary spend to some, but a boon to another some!
Excellent review ! Thanks. I think I'd go with Tiago EV
practical and awesome interiors
Very well narrated..
It's time for such innovative models😍
Great review, saw the Air EV original and fell in love with the design. I'm hoping since it's been rebadged as an MG it might be brought to the UK market 🤞🏾.
Loved the overall apperance 😍
I'm planning to get it for my everyday use 👍🏻
Interiors of the car is really impressive 👍🏻
Compact and easy to use design of this model is apt for the current traffic situation in the country
Nikhil has been smiling throughout the video 🙂
this makes sense .. in a sensible city ❤
Millions of Indians are waiting for a new Nano. A 5 star rating and a nice makeover could ensure the Comet has a very commendable rival right next to it. Tata should get to it right away.
Respect for MG Motors. The Comet may divide opinion but it really is a fine automotive product with its pros and cons.
Brilliant. Europe is full of vehicles like this. Good thing India has a premium tiny electric car.
6:47 Nikhil did this review just to say this 😂
Seriously!
Great to see this eco friendly car
Nice review 🎉
The features are really advanced for an electric vehicle
Technologically very advanced 👍🏻
Boss afterlongtime you are in autocar channel 😊🎉
Boss is Back
Well presented.
Looks pretty cute and trendy and seems to run well but a bit expensive still.
The color scheme is really fresh 😍
Perfect for short commutes 👍
Pls do a comparison between MG comet and Bajaj Electric Autorickshaw.
It actually feels much spacier than i expected
It definitely gonna be first choice for urban commuters
Very impressive 👏
This is very impressive
Is the MG Comet equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features, encompassing advanced technological features such as 360° view and ADAS? Additionally, can it be ascertained whether MG intends to offer a rapid charging solution in the foreseeable future?
Cars like these will be best served for cab drivers. Just under 10 lakhs, low maintenance and fuel cost. However, charging speed is a big issue for them. A swappable battery system should be brought out.
Great balanced review and good product designed for a specific use case . This can be used by delivery segment commercial users as folding up rear seat gives good boot space . Good for food delivery companies doing party orders and well many more use cases can come up like Shuttle service which runs for short distance like Metro station last mile taxis .Thanks again .Lets be positive and welcome everything which is Electric and as nicely said in the start of this video by the host that need to approach this with 'Open Mind' .
Mr. Bean's Mini cooper 😂
I don't know why these youtubers are giving so much hype to this EV....
It's overpriced. Wuling Hongguang Mini EV in China is priced @ 4,800- 14,700 USD i.e. 3,92,424 - 12,01,800 INR.Then why did the sell @ 7,98,000/- in INDIA ?
Actually I wished to buy a Comet EV if it was priced @ 4 lakhs (ex showroom) price. Now I have to change my mind 😞
I like Nikhil Bhatia's Black watch.
I prefer a Wagon R with the K12 petrol or the Grand i10 Diesel.
Looks like the legendary Mr. Bean car just modernised a bit 😂
Awesome review man! Are you under 6ft? Surprising. You look taller. Anyways. I have been seeing you since a time when you used to be opening doors or become a model to show the seat and volume of 3rd row or 2nd row of 7 seater SUV quietly. This car is amazing. Wish to see some more developments in it. Pricing, I feel its little too on the higher side but its not about reducing price but increase value of INR in market. I hope people use it properly and not use it like moped or scooters to just cut the traffic
Design is really cute and unique
The car is really innovative, no other brand does compact electric cars
Not sure what MG were thinking when pricing this. I mean we already have Tiago EV in the market for a little more money and it is a proper car with functional rear seats and boot.
Affordable for many . We need to wait and see the other factors
Waiting for hyundai alcazar petrol turbo review..
Well that 817 kgs are almost similar to that of a full-size hatchback called as Swift!! :D
I think it's a good urban car
Its going to be my second car
Fits in small parking spaces..great
I always struggle with bigger cars, this is the solution
Such build quality and modern features at this price is really justified
Well seems like a good option for practical rich people as a secondary car.
Would be better than a single person roaming in SUVs on busy road if they are practical enough for it.
Is there any subsidy available on MG Comet EV ? At Maharashtra
need a NCAP test on this
May be unpopular opinion, but it is pretty neat for city
Best for beginners
MG always impresses us with their cars
Truly innovative EV.
😊
How much a full charge will give?
I found it absolutely cool and I'm sure many office goers(who can afford a secondary car) would feel the same❤
Tata Tiago EV long range should be the default choice for people looking for an entry level EV right now.
With this EV MG has stepped into a totally new space. Evs of this type is rare in India. The audience will really love its unique design.
How much distance we can travel with one full charge?
Such a good car
Cute baby! It should beat the entry level cars' prices in India to be widely accepted.
If I could afford a SUV and another car for my daily commute to the office or a small distance travelling then this is really good.
Thanks MG , now waiting for TATA nano
Personally, loved it.
is this car available in Australia
Perfect choice for office going people
reminds me of Mahindra Rewa/ E2o
Waiting for a two seater eCar in India.
I love how quiet the MG Comet EV is while driving, it offers a smooth and enjoyable ride.
Thanks for this review. You got it write but most people commenting against this car are probably not understanding the market segment it serves. Right segment for this car is people who 1. Already have a big car like Safari/innova for outstation drives 2. Have place to park 2 cars 3. Have infrastructure to charge electric car. 4. Need a small car for small city commutes like office, dropping kids to school, driving to crowded market.
This car is far better than any other car currently sold in India when it comes to 1. Ability to park in tight spaces 2. Drivability on crowded, bumper to bumper city traffic
There is truly no competition in current market for comet as its only product in that segment.
Tiago EV segment is budget EV, which is different from lifestyle EV segment that comet comes in. If Tata relauches Nano in electric avatar, then it will be competition for comet.
MG should provide fast charger and ADAS based city creep mode features and bump price to 10L to remove tag of cheapest EV
Super
They could have made some more room by adding the sunroof. One can stand and go.
Best compact car, but the seats are not so comfortable. Perfect for city driving. Driving for almost 9 months, drove almost 10k kms. Range is ok getting between 150 to 190 based on driving conditions
i love it
Sir, I’ve heard that we cannot drive this car to other city. Sir do you think that it is true?
Affordable and reliable for all
AC performance?
Going to easily get through traffic now with Comet
Great battery powered Box with storage space 🎉,
What happened to reva... Would happen to it... Did anyone notice how the car was fully tilted towards drivers side...
@autocarindia1
Can you guy ask the audio mix guy to levels the sound volume in camera changes. Its too soft when he is talking on camera, when doing VO, them music cut in is too loud.
If i am gonna have to keep adjusting audio when watching your videos. I would rather watch from other channels...
Noted. And apologies
The green one looks like an RE auto. Considering what happened to Nano, this might won’t get accepted by our Indian society.
At 8 lacs they are offering fully automatic electric car with running cost of 1 rs per km. A 350 Cc motorcycle costs 2.5 lacs and running cost of rs. 3 per km. It should sell well if warranty is good
Can we drift
Waiting for TATA Nano EV
If it eventually comes around 6 lkhs when battery is localised. I'll happily trade my bike for this.
If it would have priced at 4 lakh it would be a value buy
