    Whether you like the works in this or other “episodes” is up to you, I just wanted to give both thumbs up to the rebellious Mr. Waldemar J. He may not fetch millions at Sotheby, but he is priceless! Roguish, sincere in his art-related convictions and perceptions, politically sharp as a razor when politics is the last thing you expect in a gentle art expo, and gifted with humor permanently lodged in his cheek, Waldemar has yet to give a flat or uninformed lecture.

      Why did you make this comment? Is he, the host, some controversial figure in the art world, or what?

      @@Leonardo-bd3ik Waldemar's observations of art across centuries definitely have some impact. He has his own way of "telling the tale," which I find interesting and, better yet, often instructive, whether I agree with the conclusions or not. As for your comment... I'm not sure what it means. It sounds like you're angry at me or at "the host," or both, and I'm not sure why. If you're saying that Waldemar doesn't deserve kudos because he's merely a speaker who reads texts that were prepared for him, and doesn't actually know anything, well, yes, that's a sad possibility for everyone making a buck before a camera, but I don't know that this is so. Therefore, I enjoy speaking of Waldemar as if he were an erudite friend. (Sorry for any typos, am in a hurry.)

    Studying art has been very beneficial for me. My family is constantly trying to force me to loose weight. Seeing the large, well-muscled women in the old paintings has given me the evidence I needed to prove that being thin is not normal. I've had heart trouble all my life. It was worse when I was thin. I'm sick less often and have more energy now that I gained weight.

    Rembrandt’s “Dad’s Army” IS going out to save the world: their own community. Imagine if an entire community of men could come together each evening to march around their town to ensure that all the inhabitants, including their wives & children, were safe in their sleep. Contrast with the “neighborhoods” of today, we have not improved on our responsibilities to one another.
    I love your work, thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge and love of art with us.

Very few "film" series have garnered such laughs and emotive journeys as I've had w/ Mr. Januszczak. By accident I started another show thinking it filmed by Perspective and, upon hearing the narrator's voice was immediately running to squelch the unpleasant sound in my ears. Can't stomach it! It’s a good observation that the ideal Ruben’s woman was about size 18 UK (16 USA). Often people mistakenly refer to women as “ Rubenesc” when they are closer to size 26.
    It’s interesting that Ruben’s women also seem quite muscular with surprisingly masculine wrists, ankles, hands and feet. In spite of the fact many, like his wife, were ladies of leisure they look physically tough.

    • @Luboman411
      @Luboman411 Před rokem

      Back in that time (and even today) artists almost always used lower-class women as models. Lower-class women back in the day had to do lots of hard manual labor for a living. So I can see plump, muscular women being perfect models for Rubens--lots of peasant and servant girls looked like that in his day. For his dear wife, he probably surreptitiously transferred her head on top of the body of a good-looking model he was besotted with. That would explain why a lady of leisure would look physically tough--that wasn't her real body!

    Here is one more of Waldemar's captivating documentaries that take you to another dimension and time. I can't stop watching them. I hope he never stops doing them.
    I do have one question for him. In this video, he says that Rembrandt wanted to be appreciated as the Greek sculptor and artist Phidias, who claimed he could do the perfect circle. As far as I know (and Waldemar says it in another video, it was Giotto who prided himself on being able to draw a perfect circle free-hand. Which one is it?

    I love the Baroque style but damn it was nice when secular subjects finally began to get some play. I get sick to death of Christs being taken down and moneylenders being run off. (Obviously I’ve got no soul). Having said that I will, and do, watch hours of Waldemar discussing anything. He is fabulous.

    If CZcams actually starts putting ads on non-monetized videos by creators who never asked for them, that just goes to show how greedy this corporation can be. This thought is disgusting. CZcams is essentially making free money off small channels and not paying them a single penny. Yes, these are small channels, but since there's so many of them, CZcams will still make a huge profit off of this new policy. I don't care if CZcams hates us now, it must be said by someone. I urge to our subscribers that we spread the message to all creators, and urge CZcams to immediately repeal this new policy.

      I don't agree. They should make money. It's not a crime to make money. I don't mind the advertisements. They inform me as to the true intent of the folks who watch our online behavior. I've learned a lot about the world from the advertisements. I learned about services and products I did not even know existed from watching the ads.

    "Rubens's art bulges at the seams with the huge tonnage of happily wobbling cellulite. The bigger woman rang his bell, and squeezed his pips." "...Rembrandt's mother actually came from an old Catholic family, and to my eyes, he inherited a Popish intensity from her, a Catholic fretfulness, and sweatiness, that gives all of his art its Biblical air." GOD these are good. And the morphing Rembrandts are all by themselves worth watching the entire video.
