- Hello Egyptology Lovers,
In this video I will show you the process of making lapis lazuli đđđđ§đŹ âhsbdâ paint. The process is very well know today, but Iâm simply doing it my way.
Steps: 1. Breaking g doesnât the stones, 2. Grinding them down in a Mortar & Pestle till it becomes a fine powered, 3. Sift it with a few sifter grades, 4. Mix it well with water to get a thick paste or a paint consistency and/or add egg white to get a stickier application, and 5. Apply the paint to your paper.
I hope you enjoy the video.

my love for collecting rocks and crystals screamed at you grinding down that poor lapis :))
watching the process was FASCINATING, thank you so much for taking the time to show this to us
i love your channel!
I understand how you feel, but unfortunately it had to be done.
This is amazing. Thank you so much
Fascinating! Are you planning on making a full papyrus painting using these techniques? Or are these videos just for demonstration? Really interesting either way đ I'm learning a lot from your channel.
Yes, I am in the process in making my own 6 meter book of the dead
@@EgyptologyLessons Oh wow!!! Best of luck with that đ
So cool but laborious I can imagine that there were workers designated to make hasbed all day longđ
Yes, itâs all about labour power
Amazing! Is this the famous "Egyptian blue" they used for sculptures a lot in mesopotamia?
No, Egyptian blue was made of a different material. Although it is a historical synthetic pigment, a natural mineral with identical chemical composition called cuprorivaite does exist. Just like Azurite (natural mineral) can be recreated - the synthetic version of Azurite is called Blue Verditer, the chemical composition is the same but one is natural the other man-made. Hope this helps!
Egg white is that white thing from the egg?
How long did it take you to grind it down to a powder? Iâm sitting on day 2 with amethyst đ€Ł itâs really testing my patience haha
A day, but hours of grinding and pounding
@@EgyptologyLessons ah okay, soâŠ. *counts the number of pigments I need to make* a week or two đ€Łđ Thank you for replying! I imagine this could potentially be very meditative?
Very dull, something went wrong! View masterpigments video.
He hasnât removed the impurities like calcite and pyrite. After crushing normally to purify we use beeswax mastic pine resin and mix it leave for 3 days and mix one more time and then put into lye to leach the pure blue lapis pigment...
In the video by Master Pigments they use very high quality lapis lazuli which is very difficult to get. The standard lapis, even if you do remove the pyrite and calcite impurities, will still be quite dull compared to the one made by Master Pigments simply because the lapis is not as high quality.
