- Its been a good long while since a series stunning me like Akiba Maid War Episode 1 that came out today. The contrast of comedy / moe maid to the dark edgy story is something else. I wonder if this series will be popular amongst series like Bleach and Chainsaw Man!

I have no words for how this series is LOL
@@SUPERNOVA0360 NIGGA WHAT THE FUCK
Is it on your list for the season now? I need to see where they take it.

Its literally called maid war soooo
Same
Everyone assumes Bleach or Chainsaw Man will dominate the conversation this cour. Don't underestimate the draw of batshit insanity, folks.
Isn't CSM batshit crazy as well?
Well chainsaw man will probably still dominate
Chainsaw Man is batshit insanity too what do you mean?
@@edwon1 sure lol

I was expecting a rivalry between two maid cafés, constantly one upping each other and coming up with strategies to put one another out of business.
What I witnessed was NOT that at all... but I am intrigued.
It's like what u said
Technically
Well… they did shot down and shut down the competition… figuratively and literally
@@2710cruiser I love this comment 😂
Your description is right though. They are one upping eachother and trying to put eachother out of business.
@@umbraemilitos I WASN'T EXPECTING DEATH 😭😭
The idol like dance/kill shots performance had me shocked, then rolling with laughter. I haven’t seen a first episode go this insane with a WTF like setup since School Life.
RIGHT!? It was beautiful and captivating and entirely insane!
Party party party fits that whole scene
glad to see someone mention School Live
@Hidetaka Miyazaki a wholesome anime you watch with your family
Summertime rendering went harder but ok
In case anybody wonders, the word 冥途 in this anime's title, which shares the similar pronunciation as 'maid', actually means 'world of the dead'.
Thank you!
@@bobbenson6825 Indeed. It's the Japanese reading of the Buddhist word for the underworld. This entire show is built around the coincidental fact that it's pronounced "meido" which sounds identical to "maid" in Japanese.
So, it really translates as Akiba Netherworld War
lmao that makes this 100% better now that I know that
the path/journey to the underworld
God I love Japan.
This would never be possible in Hollywood - especially nowadays.
Quentin Tarantino might have been able to pull this off 25 years ago... definitely not now, especially after how he's been lol
@@AICW I don’t follow celebrity news, what happened to Quentin Tarantino?
The violence in this ep reminded me of Kill Bill Vol 1, and I'm here for it.
@@maje5842 Uma Thurman #MeToo'd him in 2018 lol seems all that focus on women's feet in his movies does come from a creepy place after all
@@AICW I thought Tarantino feet was supposed to be a joke.
Okay, you had me at "maid on maid violence". Imma watch this now. Thanks
This episode gave me HEAVY Kingsman vibes with an anime twist! A secret society of killers and the comedic, over the top violence! They definitely nailed the comedy portion of it for sure with the last fight scene and the first set of credits! Now I'm curious as to what the other maids can do!
I was about to say that, but you exactly what I mean. Literally like Kingsman for how many bloody gunshot and brutal fight scenes.
this episode fight did remind me of second Kingsman movie last fight. so yeah, I agree.
So what, moe maketh maid?😆
I literally watched the first minute and thought "holy shit the escalated quickly" and man, they took the term kill the competition a little too literal
This anime founds the replacement for Lycoris Recoil and it was great that maids fighting against each other is interesting to watch.
That surprise hit of the new season although this is even more violent and bloody than Lycoris Recoil
Fr, I love lycoris recoil so much that this anime become a must watch for me. Hopefully they nailed it till the end.
@@rajvirmalhans2073 I'd see Akiba Maid War as Lycoris Recoil 'play safe unlocked mode'. I think LycoReco did try to go more darker tone at first but because of how hit it is and their 'partner' story, So they toned it down. I still love LycoReco btw.
Your first sentence was the exact reaction my spouse and I had multiple times! This may be the most schizophrenic and surrealistically violent anime I've seen in a dog's age. That split is literally demonstrated in both the OP and ED. The action is really well done and the animation is what we expected from PA Works. Absolutely stunning.
It's like if someone grabbed Euphoria, Idolmaster, and Future Diary and shoved them all in a blender and set it on Puree.
And the end result was an ero-guro-nansensu maid show.
I've been on the internet long enough to know that if this becomes popular it's going to inspire doujins with some very yikes tags😳
This-this was a hidden gem of just, wtf? The Opening is amazing
The opening gets me everytime ahahahahahaha
If you can read the Japanese original title 'アキバ冥途戦争' (Akiba Meido Senso), the word 'maid' is written in kanji 冥途 (meido), which actually means 'the underworld, the other world, realm of the dead'' (Buddhism word). So, if you are a Japanese, you can see that the title implies something ominous.
I am left speechless..
A maid shooting rival maids to the beat of an idol song while doing idol otaku fan lightstick dance with pistols
WTF did i just watch?!
This entire concept is pure insanity 🤣💀
I'm so happy the mc had very realistic responses to the pure insanity she witnessed. Typically, they just go with it like it's another day of wacky fun
Realistic??? What normal person would not have run away screaking after the blood hit them. I would have fainted when the shot went off.
@@reflecsion2551 late but she was likely in shock
Nice to see Chibi being shocked with a new series. This is on my must-watch list after the first episode. Plus the bunny puns at the enemy cafe. IK guess everyone noticed the maid with the death glare at the beginning is the same one here that eliminated all the bunny maids.
I literally had an idea one day and thought yo what if the made a dark ass maid Cafe series. Can't believe someone did that
The hair cutting is a reference to the Yakuza practice of Yubitsume, where someone who messes up badly is forced to sever their own pinky.
I just saw episode two and this series has been a very violent, very dark, but very pleasant surprise. (Also, the young maid form the first scene is the John Wick maid from later in the episode. Lady has a mad-on for whatever reason and I am here for it.) The juxtaposition of the moe-blob elements with the "Bring your daughter to the slaughter" aspect is something I didn't know I needed until just now.
I first watched the fight scene clip on CZcams that was shown to be recommended, I literally thought those 20 Maids with the Bunny Ears were like Terrorists disguised themselves as Maids and the main protagonist was an undercover cop shooting at them like Walker Texas Ranger. I just realized later that this was just a Maid War, I definitely wondered why did these maids get these guns, bombs, and other weapons equipped since these maids looked like they're around teenager to 20s. Also, I'm definitely wondered how the boys react to see Maids getting killed in a Bloodbath War since I think some Japanese Boys in Anime go to these Maid Cafe. Also, I do wondered how these maids never run into the police since this is pretty brutal way to have them not notice a war going on?
Also funny how the manager gave the mc some money for some ramen as she assumed it would be her last meal
Worse manager ever.....
gave me the exact same reaction as when i watched "jinrui wa suitai shimashita (humanity has declined)"
it was just absolutely so absurd that i didnt even know what to make of it
This title is my exact reaction like what the hell and the fact that I'm gonna continue watching it. Went in entirely blind no synopsis nothing and just wow
To me this first episode is the kind of thing I wish was in the cyberpunk anime something crazy.
we may get that. Cyberpunk genre is coming back hard now. Expect dozens of new series and media.
Your first sentence was exactly the same response I had after watching it.
This looked like Ya Boy Kongming did a fusion dance with LycoReco. This the 2nd show this year that made me say out that iconic Fate Stay Night line…
Who knows gun shots are music tunes… Time to watch some 155mm guns used as orchestra instruments while waiting for the next episode
so my thoughts were someone who enjoys yakuza movies and akihabara maid cafes decided "Why not combine the two" and thus this show was made
And add 10x more violence and death.
I knew I was going to like this from the trailer. I loved how they mixed the moe song with the killing. Loved the first episode
I love shows and games that do this contrast. Like Higurashi When They Cry is one of my favorite series in VN/anime and love the contrast. You definitely knew from op tho that it wasn't chipper tho but the character design makes you think that and some of the happy playful moments
Dude I had the same reaction I'm just like what did I just watched. And the crazy part is when other Maid started singing the maid starts shooting and killing people in sync with the music I was like what the heck.
the seiyuu's cast is amazing too!!
Minami Tanaka as my favorite girl Yumechi already🛐
Saw the notification, no thumbnail and knew which anime you were talking about 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 homegirl 35 years old!
"Maid on maid violence" something I never thought I'd hear lmao
It's nice to see PA Works getting more love that they deserve this year. But probably contradictory to most people, one of my favourites from them is something that came out last year that barely anybody talked about. 😁
What's that last year anime

"I'm trying to grasp onto any sort of like..." Pretty accurate description for most people trying to figure this series out.
that action scene had such good sync with the music and all
i watch that scene every morning afternoon and night for 3 daily does now
OMG the ending song had me rolling 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Maids meet Black Lagoon - I’m just as shocked as the MC!! 😵
This gave me the same shock as Gakkou Gurashi (School live) anime first episode , Though the latter nailed it in execution. Even the OP cjanges as the show progress was a highlight
This anime is something I wasn't expecting a maid song playing while maids are getting killed
This might be one of my favorite non-sequel shows from the season so far. That 1st episode was just...AMAZING!
Chibi Watch - Do it Yourself .. its so wholesome and beautiful.
Was already interested in this show because it's PA Works. The PV intrigued me, but I didn't expect this. And I love it!
Don't forget the ED too. Japanese/Hong Kong 80s Mafia aesthetic visuals, accompanied by the maid song singing in Enka style really solidifies me watching this anime.
I haven't seen an insane first episode like this since Excel Saga.
Now this is a Name i have not heard in a while.
@@susakuzero I seriously need to re watch excel Saga. The last time I saw it I was in middle school or the start of highschool maybe my adult brain will enjoy the series even more now.
Thanks for exlaining. I came across a video with LITERALLY the same title, but it was actual scene from the anime, so now I know what it is from and all the context.
This title is obviously made to shock and my only concern is that after initial blast it will slow down. But I hope I'm mistaken because it seems like a good show to watch when you need to relax your brain cells from constant thinking and analyzing 😁
I'm glad you made this. I stopped right before you got into major spoilers, went and watched it myself, came back and finished your vid. Whatever that was that we just watched, it was amazing.
One thing that made me so happy in this series is the very heavy implication of Yakuza and mafia references. Absolutely love this show! Haven't had a good crime anime in a while.
I’m glad you’re talking about this. I hope this gets even better and more people watch it

The lyrics to the song during the shootout had me in stitches 🤣
the first few words is exaly what i keept repeating the hole ep and god damn PA works is that you damn
The tiny little Alucard in the back my head is just buzzing.
2:24 Speaking of Death Parade; I had the exact same thoughts about that and my comment on the Funimation OP video stating so had somewhere over 2k likes last i checked.
I was confused after this episode, but I think it'll be fun. Definitely watching the rest as well. It looks very weird, fun and original. May be one of the sleepers of this season
I wasn’t planning to see any more shows for Fall. My got Chibi you are on fire with these recommendations
I am a bit late to the game, but I saw the trailer three or four months ago and didn't get it but I read the info on it and figured it was worth a watch. Not what I completely expected. Maids, cute girls doing cute stuff, etc.... Watched the first episode and I was hooked. We got guns, bats, pipes and a Nagomi. Love the opener and I now look forward to Thursdays on HiDive. The most recent episode was such a great pay off and it looks like Nagomi is now going to be just like Ranko, who is my favorite maid just because she has no problem with MDK. This might be my favorite anime of the season and that is saying something because this season is so good.
I just watched the episode. WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT GLORIOUS INSANITY!? LITERALLY WHAT IN THE EVER LOVING HELL WAS THAT AND WHY WAS IT SO AMAZING!?
What did you watch it on?

I watched the Japanese trailer, I knew it was a bit different. But it did kind of hit like Harem in the Labyrinth. Both are surprisingly violent. The art & animation is great though. It was a fun ride. The hair scene was reminiscent of a yakuza cutting off a pinky finger scene.
Saw you upload this vid and immediately watched the episode before watching your reaction LOL so funny
Definitely is going to be in my top 3 for sure this season I feel 😅😂 it's a crazy fall season you could pick up almost any of them and find something great so far HYPE

The commercial following this was for a movie called Violent Night, which has a Santa Claus performing John Wickdom. This whole experience has been an oddity.
This is a straight banger man! Def..gonna watch this all the way through 😂
After I watched this episode I was all WTF and WTH so I message a couple of friends and said you have check this out. They message back withWTF and WTH lol. It's so insane I definitely going to be following this one this season I'm definitely enjoying it lol.
Idk what to say either, but damn when I finished the show I was on the edge of starting crying, and everything that makes me feel sad deserves anything.
To be fair, when I first saw the trailer I thought it would be a lot darker than it is. Not in terms of graphic content, but themes in general. I thought it'd revolve around something like using maid cafes as an entry point to the night world, to things like the yakuza and prostitution, with the protagonist going in a downward spiral due to an unfortunate turn of events. I don't know why I thought that, but it would have made for an interesting albeit disturbing story. Still what we did end up getting was pretty awesome.
I need to see this 😭
I just finished watching the first episode of this. The second episode comes out on October 13th. This anime is gonna be awesome. Thanks for letting Me know about it man.
Passerby: Oh my god are those gunshots? Is it a gang war!?
Random old guy: No, worse....its a maid war.
Passerby: What?
Anyway can't wait to see how this series turns out, should be interesting 🤣
love the energy bro, keep it up
Had no idea what I was walking into lol FANTASTIC!
i wasnt going to watch this series but your first sentence sold me
I knew what was coming and still had the same reaction, from the little bits they released and image teasers where the short haired chick was holding a gun I figured it'd turn out exactly as it did, but even still I'm struggling to process that it's actually a thing
Another anime I would have never checked out if it wasnt for you! Thanks
This is NOT a maid-moe anime.
This is a Yakuza-crime dramady anime, right down to the Yubitsume/finger shortening being reference through that hair-chopping.
This anime is basically Yakuza in maid outfits. If you change the characters' gender and get rid of the maid stuff, the first episode is basically about our protagonist, a young guy, who just joined a Yakuza syndicate, and was used as cannon fodder to deliver the declaration of war letter in order for his boss to delay paying back his debt. Luckily a more experienced member who also just joined this syndicate (and probably just got out of jail) offered to accompany the protagonist. They delivered the letter, and slaughtered their way out, and the protagonist now regrets joining the Yakuza.
watched this too found it kinda funny actually. nice new concept :P lets see where it goes
you just watched the best anime of the year lol im exited for this series
OP wise, I dunno about the tone change given the visuals towards the beginning of it with the guns and all, along with the remix of the maid lingo alongside some sort of DOOM esque track being kinda unsettling, It only goes back to being cutesy towards the end.
Exactly what I had as well, WTF did I just watch? Didn't even expect you could mix gore, comedy and moe together like this, so it sure is interesting and I probably will keep watching it as well.
Had to check it out immediately after I saw the title of this video , and I just got whiplashed from that episode
Insomnia made me catch up with chibi review, less go!
The insert song was catchy
Had the exact same reaction. Completely stunned.
Saw the title of the vid (I didn't know about this series beforehand), and had to watch the ep. I had a blast (pun intended). The over the top violence reminded me of Kill Bill Vol 1. I'm glad this is under comedy, because the premise is almost too nonsensical (at least at face value) to be taken seriously.
Keep them Coming Chibi 👍
Thank you for making a video about this anime since I wouldn't have watched it on my own.
Chibi coming in clutch yet again with the anime reccomendations lol
*Gentlemen, you had my curiosity… but now you have my attention.*
this show swerved then twisted then swerved again. i love it.
This appears to be a satire of Yakuza tropes. Iirc I read somewhere that this is inspired by the famous yakuza film series, Battles Without Honor and Humanity.
There are out on the streets like that. on rainy days. I imagine this is how they compete in real life xD
First 30 seconds have definitely piqued my curiosity
