The moment I saw 'Call of the Night' was getting an adaptation, I knew Gigguk would rise from his slumber to say, "I told you so." Like any decent manga reader.

Finally, all this time following Gigguk has become profitable...in primos.
Monty really was a genius. He managed somehow to convey parts of who his characters were through their unique fighting styles. Ruby is a weapon fan who relies on her scythe heavily. Yang is boxing with the air to shoot her projectiles. Pyrrha Nikos is versatile and barely uses her semblance to not give possible enemies any intelligence on her capabilities. And so on... It was just another form of story telling for him. And RT still haven't managed to recreate that feeling in RWBY. Nor did the animators for the IQ.

All of the characters in RWBY have their personalities and character expressed through their weapons and fighting styles. Roosterteeth however has an issue where they're not very good at emulating this concept despite trying to.

@@kasraeskandari9351 Well, a previous chapter had Chizuru run out Kazuya's confession, so he had a mental breakdown in the public pool and imaged her getting railed by the love rival, and it was this very detailed, 10 page spread. Like, extremely detailed, and Kazuya gets a boner in the pool thinking about it.
Imma be honest with you lycoris recoil probably became one of my favorite anime ever with just 5 episodes, the slice of life aspect doesn’t fail to make me smile and the actions scene are so damn cool and well made.
Hoping that it will stay this good until the end
I remember seeing the reveal trailer for Call of the night and I fell in love, the artwork, the music and just the whole lot of it really got me super hyped up, and It's for the first time in a long time an anime that i've anticipated and haven't been disappointed with. I long for my weekly fill of the vampire.
Uncle from Another World is a reverse isekai that feels like a sitcom. The dark comedic undertones of the Uncle's adventures make it all the funnier.: The tally marks on the note book of how many times he has cleanse atrocious memories from his mind, his constant abuse due to his appearance, the Sega obsessed subplot & lack of pop cultural knowledge of the past 17 years is what makes this a hidden gem. It's definitely worth watching. It has many more episodes to go, but I'd hope to add it to the S Tier Isekai like Konosuba or Devil is a Part Timer.

Call of the night is honestly amazing. I can sit there vibing and watch an episode for 20 something minutes and the next day I won't even remember what happened in it. Never have I ever seen something less memorable, but more feel-good.

Call of the Night animators must've been hyped when they realized they basically only had to animate 2-3 people, so they could put everything in... well... everything else.
Not to mention there's not a whole lot of action except some shots of nazuna flying so they get to put all their efforts in the backgrounds and uhm... fan service 😏
Edit: manga readers please chill out with the spoilers, you can hype us up all you want about future arcs but be as vague about it as possible

9:30 surprisingly enough that actually works, but it's more effective for short sighted people, it works by making the photons only go in one area of the eye which makes the blurinnes that comes for eye's inability to focus the more spread out light correctly go away to a degree. i had to use that during class multiple times

Pro-tip, you can also push on the side of your eye to re-shape it into the proper shape to focus on light. Or at least, that works for the one of my two eyes that's short-sighted, no idea how well this works for other people.
Just don't try it with both eyes open, and also I'm pretty sure you shouldn't do it very much or you'll hurt yourself.
Yeah, it can really work in a pinch but it is a little finnicky the first time you do it

Not going to lie I expected a longer mention of Made in Abyss since it is, for me, the best anime of the season and 5 episodes in I obviously can't be 100% sure yet but most likely also of the year, I know it is on the continuations category and you focus more on the new stuff but each episode has just adapted the manga so well that I can't help but just be overjoyed every week of the amount of quality and details there is not just in the OST but everything, and we haven't even fully started on the parts that made me love this arc.
This part of the story just isn't as interesting as the first season

The glasses thing does work. The opening needs to be very small to have any effect. Should be so small that what you're looking at starts becoming darker. Doing this reduces the optical error by using a smaller portion of your eye lens.
The obvious drawback is that the tighter the hole, the more clarity you gain, but also the more your field of view decreases and the darker what you can still see appears

Hey Matt, long time no see.
9:39 it actually does something, he just did it incorrectly. Its called the pinhole effect, if you put a hole small enough close to your eye it focuses the light to the back of the retinas allowing nearsighted people to see. To do it correctly you have to use only your pointer finger and clench it until there is a very small hole letting light through.
Yep, do it occasionally when I need to read a small amount of tiny text and I don't have my glasses.

I was about to say the same thing. I used to use the vent holes on my hat to see when I didn't have glasses handy - back before my vision got so bad I can't even see a foot in front of me. Still works now, I just never go anywhere without glasses on.

Earlier in the year I started wandering around the streets of downtown SD in the middle of the night to clear my head and vibe. Then bam this thing dropped, I had never even heard of it but god it captures those night vibes so well. The soft glow of lights reflecting off the glass of high rise buildings, a cool breeze blowing across the cold concrete, faint voices in the distance. It’s so peaceful and perfect.

I don't trust Gigguk, after he totally dismissed Astra Lost in space, and it turned out to be the sleeper classic of the season.

I do remember the classic silly game called QWOP, so maybe a classic or current game akin to that one? Have one of them control the QW and the other control the OP? This could be an opportunity to take their keyboard rivalry up another notch. And then have Joey come in at the end with a merch plug transition: "So, if you liked that nonsense, well have I the thing for you!!"

9:23 This is actually real. You need to make a really small hole, if you look closely, there’s some light bending when you make the hole smaller. If you make it small enough where you only see the light bending part, your eyesight should get a little bit better.
I went to get a new prescription and the doctor gave me glasses with no glasses, it was just a black plastic glasses frame and where the glass should be, were many black lines crossing each other making millions of tiny holes, and looking through that, I could see a bit better
Side note: it’s better to only use your index finger and thumb and leave the rest of your fingers out of your sight imo

It produces a focal point same as a lens would but insead of refraction being used it just prevents light rom passing through anywhere other than the focal point inherently providing focus. this is the mechanism behind the pin hole camera and is why when we squint to see better it works, eyelashes for the vertical division and eyelids for the horizontal division producing a line of focal points.
Easier to say its like a very small aperture setting on a camera lens, providing virtually infinite focus as light is only comes one direction

What makes Lycoris Recoil stand out to me is the fact that they used what appears to be a fairly substantial part of their budget to animate the different processes of a firearm in motion. Most shows just animate the muzzle flash, maybe the slide movement, but Lyco Reco actually simulates all 4 parts of a handgun's movement. Trigger pull, slide movement, recoil, reset. It makes it feels so fluid and authentic. Every movement looks and feels like something that would happen when you pull a trigger to make something go "bang". I spend a lot of time with my firearms, and it feels really nice to see a studio that pays attention to it's research.

I admit, Gigguk slightly triggered me in this regard (not really, nobody take this post too seriously). I found out about the Komi manga (as I had never heard of it prior) because he joked about it never getting an anime in a few videos. So I read it, then an anime is announced, and then when it came out Gigguk portrayed the Komi manga readers as that obnoxious guy going, “haha, I knew that”. And I’m like, “bruh, I’m only the manga reader because you told me it wasn’t getting an anime!” But I know it’s all in good jest, and now Gigguk has become a smug punk like me and you and Joey and all the manga readers and we can all laugh in our superiority together. :)

I really like the Uncle Isekai. Ojisan might seem like a moron and he kinda is... but there's a surprising depth to his character when you see how he approaches life and why he does so in such a blithe manner. He went through hell to get home, all for the sake of a Sega magazine.
i love how the story could go extremely dark about the stuff he lived in the iseaki because at the end of the day we know he comes back to japan. the question still remains HOW he got out of that problem
I don't think he's necessarily a moron. I mean, the tsundere trope is pretty much an anime only thing. To take a girl at her word when she constantly says she doesn't really like you and then ditch the girl who constantly berates you, yeah, that's exactly what you do.
Now, socially awkward, that he definitely is. But, well, he was a SEGA game obsessed loner, so that again speaks more to his personality than his intellect.
He’s not really a moron he was just a normal person if someone keeps making fun of your appearance every time they saw you and then kept stalking you afterwards you’re not going to like that person. So to me it felt what any normal person would do and avoid the “tsundere”

But his attitude is less seeing her as a friend and more like "having begrudginly appreciation for her" if only because the rest of the population has treated him so bad (sans a few other exceptions), that in his eyes, tsundere elf is better than the alternative

I will now write “reincarnated as a slave” as a dark fantasy series about the horrors of slavery in a fantasy world in which the main character has to learn survival skills, escapes, ignites a bloody horrid revolution that leaves them dysfunctional and ptsd riddled only to barely succeed at the cost of millions of lives. 9:40 It actually works. I've been doing this for nearly ten years now. You have to make it the size of a pinhole, but it works. It's a similar method to pinhole cameras actually. The hole itself helps focus light and allows you to see at a distance. It isn't great, like it's a small viewing area, but it works in a pinch.
If you do it right, the hole is small enough that everything will be darker

9:30 this actually DOES do something, always in school before I had glasses I'd have a small piece of paper with a tiny hole in it that I'd sometimes use if there was something I barely couldn't see on the board. Idk why but looking through a tiny hole makes your eye focus better, so while it doesn't make your eyesight better, it helps you see the thing you needed to see a lot clearer
Basically stuff is blurry when your eyes suck, because the photons coming off of an object don't get properly focused into one spot, but are spread out.
The hole only allows through photons from one direction, the photons causing the blur are filtered out.
The trade off is that the brightness drops, so you may still have issues seeing.
It's called the pinhole effect it was discussed in a Dr. Stone episode too

I've been absolutely loving Lycoris Recoil. It caught me off guard how good the blend of action and slice of life is with some damn great character design.
Lycoris Recoil is awesome, and Chisato wins best girl. The gun-fu choreography is on another level in that anime.

@@guitboxgeek theres definately a gun nerd on the production team. The suppressed pistol audio sounds EXACTLY what a real one sounds like, not some stock audio hollywood pew pew sound was used. When Takina used the PKM in the first ep before she got kicked out of DA it matches the cyclic rate of an actual PKM, not some random machine gun sound. Lot of the handguns are modelled pretty accurate too.

Song of the Night Walkers is gas. I'm current on the manga and it's really starting to get interesting idk if the anime will get there, though. It starts off as more of a slice of life focusing on how people become vampires and why, then transitions into a kind of battle manga focusing on how vampires relate to the world at large and how they govern themselves. The characters are a pleasure and the MC, Yamori Kou, isn't an idiot despite being 14 years old. Plenty of twists and turns if you want to get invested, but an understandable enough series if you just want something casual and fun. Highly recommend.

With some experimentation, I actually found that the using fingers for glasses trick actually worked a bit, but it took very specific positioning. It was sudden, though. All of a sudden the blurry object I was looking at snapped into focus. Not on level with my actual glasses, but I could actually see details!

Gigguk when you do the “closing your finger around your eye to sharpen your vision thing” its kind of like squinting, but you dont focus your eyes , you just use your hands as a scope. Works on things further away when you make the gap in your hand small enough
9:38 Just came here to say that this does work, somewhat. You need to be looking through a small enough pin hole. The worse your vision, the smaller the hole. It won't completely correct your vision, but it will make objects sharper compared to without glasses.
