      hey! I was VP of the student council at my high school, co-president of the christian club, VP of chem honor society, member of spanish, math, and national honor society, I sang in choir and played piano for 12 years, and I volunteered at my church. I honestly didn’t have much engineering related extra-curriculars but I think the fact that I had a lot of leadership and that I attended the C-Tech summer camp at VT reaaaally helped with my application! and I actually didn’t apply anywhere else haha I was dead-set on going to VT!

      @@ninalatimore1307 Honestly, I really like the hall I'm in, Hoge Hall, which is for those that are apart of the Galipatia LLC. However, I'm actually leaving the Engineering program at the end of the Spring semester so that I can move into Biological Sciences. (Not that engineering was hard or anything, I originally applied with some heavy doubt that this was what I wanted to do.)
      However, I think you'll really enjoy it! We have mask policies on campus to help keep everyone safe and there are COVID-19 randomized tests, but they're not too bad. Food is also really great! Congratulations, you'll have a blast! Overall, it's been fun!

    Great video! Would you mind sharing your high school stats or any information you know about the acceptance rate for the college of engineering?

    • @LeahThomas00
      @LeahThomas00  Před 4 lety +2

      I actually don’t know what the acceptance rate is for the college of engineering but I do know it’s lower and more competitive compared the other colleges at VT! In high school, I had a 4.5 GPA, 1400 SAT score, and I was pretty heavily involved in my school and community. I was VP of student council, VP of chem honor society, president of my school’s christian club, member of NHS, math honor society, and spanish honor society. I also played piano and was in choir for twelve years, volunteered at my church, and I had an online business for some time. When it comes to college admissions, consistency is key. I know it sounds like I was doing things all over the place, but I made it a point to stick with each thing for years to show commitment and because I loved doing it! if you’re an underclassman in high school, I’d recommend joining a few clubs and if you like it, continue to stick with it and hopefully you can gain a leadership position as an upperclassman!

    • @LeahThomas00
      @LeahThomas00  Před 4 lety +2

      also i’d like to point out that your stats may look different than mine and mine might look completely different from another VT engineer and that is totally fine!! I know college admissions is scary and stressful, but please don’t compare what you’re interested in and value to what another person is doing :) good luck with everything!

  • @juliafrederick2161
    @juliafrederick2161 Před 4 lety

    You said you were part of the Honors college. Did you personally find it overwhelming, difficult, and unnecessary as an engineering student? Did it leave any room for other classes/elective that you really wanted to take? Also, can you explain some of the structural differences between Hillcrest Honors LLP and Hypatia? I am deciding between the two. Is one nicer than the other? Would you recommend Hypatia over Hillcrest because of the engineering advantages?

    • @LeahThomas00
      @LeahThomas00  Před 4 lety +1

      personally, I felt like earning an honors diploma proved to be a lot of extra work on top of the pretty rigorous engineering requirements. I know some people who are doing both, but I didn’t want to overload myself. I didn’t stay in hillcrest so I don’t know too much about the structure of the program, but being in hypatia definitely has it’s advantages since it is completely engineering focused. there are lots of networking opportunities and professional development all related to your major which I found helpful. I don’t know about how nice the interior of hillcrest is but it is probably one of the farthest buildings on campus and it’s on top of a hill so it’s kind of a hike haha

    • @LeahThomas00
      @LeahThomas00  Před 4 lety +1

      forgot to mention this, but the reason I chose hypatia was so I could be involved in that community but also be in honors (but you can’t live in hillcrest and be part of hypatia). I hope this helped!

    I’m in the process of deciding between VA Tech and UVA. Did you get into UVA and if so why did u pick tech over UVA?

    • @devikamittal8798
      @devikamittal8798 Před 3 lety +3

      I got into both, and chose tech! For me, it was a hard decision because i’ve never been a completely STEM person, and wanted to explore the arts and humanities even if i wasn’t going to rely on them as my main career. I didn’t like the idea of going to a tech school, or being completely surrounded by it. However, tech’s engineering is much better, and it’s more hands on versus theoretical. That kind of engineering would be more fun for me, and make me like it more, which was a win over the UVA’s diversity. Tech is so much more advanced in research, and it would be way more fun. Also i liked the idea of being the majority (engineer at tech) versus minority (engineer at UVA). Tech also has more diversity within engineering fields, so that would be more fun than at UVA. Also the people at UVA tend to be more preppy, and the vibe is def different. At tech people tend to be more down to earth, and you can relate to them more as an engineer, since they’re most likely also an engineer.

    have you lied, stolen, used God's name in vain, or lusted after someone (which God sees as adultery)? if so, you have broken God's law, the ten commandments, and have sinned against God. The Bible says in Romans 6:23 that the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Put your trust in Jesus Christ, His death paid the debt for YOUR sins. Trust in Jesus, and He will give you eternal life, a free gift from God that can't be achieved or gotten by works!!
