The only terrifying thing about Little Mermaid is Ursula and how manic she can get; the scene of her laughing while Ariel was transforming into a human was intense and served as nightmare fuel for my childhood days.
If there’s any Disney film that could be classified as “terrifying” for any actual reason it’s Raya and the Last Dragon. No, not because it has scary moments or anything that could traumatize a child, but because it’s morals/themes are so backwards it’s infuriating the more you think about it.
Yeah, the movie’s theme about trust is very misguided. Trust is one of the most complicated human traits ever which takes years to gain from someone, and even longer to reclaim it back if trust is broken. Raya made it seem like it’s easy to trust someone if you let your gut tell you to, which isn’t that simple. Disney should just stick to the simple morals because it’s better to have something that works even if it is repetitive than something that fails even if it sounds nuance on paper.

if we're going by any Disney movie that is terrifying I'd have to give it to the film, "Something wicked this way comes." but if we're going by most terrifying animated Disney film, that would go to the Horn King scenes from 'The Black Cauldron". The Little Mermaid is no where near being terrifying.
@@bigboygrease5922 You mean best character in the movie!! lol But yeah I can understand how his scenes could come off as unnerving for kids, especially his death.
The Little Mermaid has always been one of my all time favorite Disney movies. It's a shame so many people want to trash it with crazy reasons. Thanks for defending it Raven Knight. I've been thinking about doing my own video defending it. About Ariel being 16, that's how old Briar Rose was in Sleeping Beauty. Getting married that young was common back then. Does Cracked not know that?
So I have a theory that makes me like this even movie even more: Let say Triton is the Triton from Greek myth. It’s never out right stated, but he does have qualities that make it plausible he is the sea god (the Trident, the general Greek design of his palace and his chariot pulled by sea horses.). If he is Triton, that could potentially make Ariel immortal, or at least have longevity. So Triton litterally giving her humanity, I think is touching. One is she is excepting the fact she’ll probably die someday, while her family lives on, all for her love. And two, it’s Triton excepting of it, that’s somewhat bitter sweet. He is essentially excepting the fact she won’t be with him for eternity, but excepts it because she is happy. Triton really doesn’t deserve the hate. He’s possibly a god after all and honestly, and this is something I do wish Disney would do is talk about how being both a king and a father is hard, and often they don’t make the right choices, and it’s up to their children to learn amd grow from it. Honestly, Triton reminds me a lot of Stoic from How to Train Your Dragon. Both are kings with rebellious children who don’t fit in and have interests in things that they view would bring harm to their people. Yet I don’t see any Stoic hate.
Interesting perspective. In case English is your 2nd language, or your grammar isn't great. Exceptance is incorrect. To except something or excise something is removing for separating. My bad. English is my first language, I just have a bad habit of mixing grammar tenses up. And, yeah look into Triton. He’s not mentioned as much as his father, but the allusions to him in the movie makes an interesting theory at the least.

The scene where he says "What have I done" is probably one of the most powerful scenes any Disney Princess parent gets!
