Brandon Barnes is a criminally underrated drummer. Always goes 100% behind the kit.

These dudes haven't really been Rise Against since TS&TW. The two albums after that were alright but didn't sound like the same band. Aside from a song or two, Black Market and Wolves were quite meh. This album sounds like a mix of old and new, which is nice to see them trying to recapture their old sound, at least to some degree.
@@WhereOceansMeeet I'm not really sure why that matters. I consider myself to be a proudly dedicated fan to this band, and all of their albums are top-tier in their own way. Find a mood, pick an album. I don't get why people choose to take a band with a legacy, then pick their stuff apart chronologically. Of course they changed. I hope you have in the last 20 years. I love how open to interpretation these songs can be sometimes depending on the person. Like ofc im sure the band wrote with intentions as well, but what everyone gets out of it is all so amazing.
Agreed, this one to me at least feels very personal like how in the chorus its like he's talking about getting this recurring dream over and over again and he has no idea what it means but its like he feels alone, hence the "where were you when I woke up" and why it sounds so angry in this song
2 years later I find myself crying listening to this song. Word for word a depressing and frustrating experience feeling so disconnected and not being able to make any sense of anything when someone you love leaves.

After hearing the whole album, I'm convinced that Nowhere Generation being the first single they released was just a ploy to make us all have low expectations for the rest of the album, so that they could then proceed to blow those expectations out of the water
And even Nowhere Generation isn't bad! An 8 or 9 compared to an album full of 10s

@@blahthebiste7924 I think with Nowhere Generation, it's a lot about whether you see yourself in the lyrics or not. I really relate to the 2nd verse: "for your sweat, you'll be rewarded they told us every day" . I was raised with this ideological thinking, that you can achieve anything if you just work hard enough. But fact is, that the whole system is too fucked up to reward anyone except for those who already have more than one could spend in a lifetime. Capitalism failed. ("The smoke on the horizon was the burning promiseland") Long downturn since 1970s and our generation is the one who pays. I'm grateful that RA picked this up.
@@chrisbe4655 The lyrics are great, RA lyrics usually are. The musicality of the song just doesn't have the same impact as a lot of their other stuff for me

I find that RA are at their best when they write from personal experiences like this one, not the usual generic, political rise up theme that is getting a bit tired by now. Songs like Politics of Love, Heaven Knows and Gethsemane come to mind as great examples of this.
Agreed - They started losing me (and probably most of their fans, really) when their songs stared becoming directly and explicitly political.
