When he stopped and said, "You having fun?" something just went completely through me. The man knew what good music could do for the listener. His passion was to entertain and give his music to people so they could have a good time and shake off stress and hard times. Thank you Eddie for your wonderful music. We will never forget you.
" it's my house, you don't like it, you can get the fuck out!" Eddie Murphy lol. MAN this must have been a fuckin TREAT to be at!!!! I wish there was more!
I don't know how Eddie can still play that smashed with all the bells and whistles chiming perfectly. I would never be able to hold on to my guitar in that position. That's a ROCK GOD!
I was there! Spicoli was quite the host hey, I got to meet Brooke Shields and I got to hang out with mr. Hand! I've been in that room I even hooked up was Stacy Hamilton! True story!
Listen to that crowd, they are eating up every note and loving it. This guy had such control of his instrument it was impossible not to be entranced by his playing. Funny thing is this is probably the sloppiest I've ever seen him play and its still amazing. Clearly he's been partying a bit here but you can still just feel the joy he has for the guitar and the confidence he has when he's playing it. He literally changed the course of people's lives when he inspired so many of us to start playing music. I don't even think he knew just how important he was to this world. R.I.P EVH
My dad went to Pasadena high and his youngest brother Victor was friends with Ed. They each played lead guitar in their own bands. My dad was 6 years older and ended up being their auto shop teacher at the continuation school where they went and my dad used to make fun of Eddie's name. My uncle's all hung out with van Halen for years before they took a wrong turn in life :-/
All you guitar experts ragging on his playing is pretty funny. It's a fricking backyard party, he's just having fun and doesn't give a s($t about hitting every note exactly like you heard it on the record.
Let me Say this. What a life!!! to have lived. Eddie Van Halen was awed by every Rock musician in the world. It must have been a blast to whale on his own production guitar and gear in front of his friends on his birthday. (You can only wish to be so cool) He always had a natural smile when playing and still got a kick out of playing music as you see here. I still get a thrill out of listening to Van Halen and his guitar playing.
Dear Mike Reed; just want to thank you for these great videos of Eddie Van Halen. The quality of these videos is great and the sound is like it was recorded yesterday. He's terrific just having fun. What a pleasure to watch him in action. Thank you!!
Partying or not, he still sounds great & when he asks “are u having fun “ , shows that he’s not some rock star....he’s just having a great time loving what he’s doing.
It's Just Cool, Seeing him Fooling around w/ No Pressure,Smiling and Having Fun... One of The KINGS!!! Hendrix Made Noise all the Time ...And It was Cool... Peace*
Just imagine being invited to a party in the backyard of a living legend. He lived to play for people. Wether in a stadium in front of tens of thousands or at a back yard party for ten. Always giving 110% 👍🏻
Thanks for documenting Eddies tone, his signature EVH amps turned off and the Marshall jcm900 dual reverb on the floor pretending to be a door stop is doing all the work!
I'm 64 yrs old he inspired a generation of wanna be Eddies and we are all better for it I've been playing guitar 🎸 for 46+ years GOD bless your soul Edward van Halen lest we forget him I never will go mammoth I love you all
Thanks for recording this. He might have gone through a difficult time in his life, but what a great talent he has. I always wondered how he made those sound efects in the song , but now I know. Thanks
the best. every other guitarist no matter how great always sounds like something else you've heard. eddie always sounds like eddie and what a sound it is.
I saw Eddie on the different kind of truth tour, its good to see him better and completely on top of his game. From fans everywhere thank you Eddie for getting better and giving us your 100%.
Drunk or sober... that still kicked ass! Fun to see Ed having a good time in his own backyard. After a few Makers Mark doubles we all play about like that anyway. Thanks for sharing a great night out with us!
Being one of the greatest living guitarist surely has it's demands and pressures... it's good to see Eddie having fun with his friends and not giving a shit. Imagine... "What's making all of that GD noise?" "It's just Eddie Van Halen rocking live in his back yard down the street again." "Yeah, right." This video is a gem.
Eddie in my book is still one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) guitar players of all time. Jimi broke a lot of the molds, but Eddie really broke away and re-invented the guitar. And his sound was always sooo huge!!!!! Nobody ever sounded quite like Eddie. I love watching him play. I did get to see him live. He's not the player he once was, but I cherish the memories if his glory days, and always will.
@mikeshredder233 I believe you mentioned that you "teach guitar" in a previous post. I would be interested to know what university do you teach at? What are your recent publications? I'd be interested to know your thoughts on comparing and contrasting African music to the performance by Eddie in his back yard (the video above).
Ed was doddering around onstage like his soul bro DLR does today, and then he asked the friends he hired for the night to clap at the shite he wanked on guitar
HE LOOK A BOTTLE OR A FEW INTO THE NIGHT BUT FACE IT HES STILL THE MAN , JUST HAVING A GREAT TIME AS WE HAVE DONE LISTENING TO OUR VH CDS OR AT A VH CONCERT.EDDIE WILL BE MISSED MY CONDOLENCES GO OUT TO THE VAN HALEN FAMILY ..THANKS EDDIE FOR PUTTING THE WORLD IN AWWWWW WITH YOU TALENT ..R.I.P. EVH
Two cigarettes on top of the tuning keys. Because... one is not enough when you are Ed Van Halen. Love it. But very glad he's sober now (as far as I know).
This “stage” he’s on is his own backyard. People didn’t pay to see this concert so there’s no expectations Ed should have to live up to. Yeah, he’s not sober. Big deal. Give the guy a break. He’s lived in the spotlight for most of his life where everything he does is and has been judged. He didn’t hit every note and he changed things up a bit compared to his normal live Eruption solo. And he’s ALLOWED to do that! He didn’t even have to play at all. He’s just letting loose and having a good time
I attended this party. Ed was to say the least really messed up. As you see in this video he almost fell off the stage at 1:45 mark. He/they played for over an hour, some VH songs & some cover songs. Billy Idol was supposed to sing that night, but flaked out. Yes, the band even played Rebel Yell! It was wild and exciting. It just wasn't the EVH we all grew up with in the late 70's early 80's. Ed did play on his baby grande piano in the family room and THAT was amazing too. Cool house!
long live Van Halen! I hear that they are back in the studio. We have written some songs that Dave could sing with ease and could very well help them regain that 1984 status, no joke and they would owe us nothing. We just want Van Halen back on top were they belong.
@fuzzingaround those evh amps are way better than marshalls plexi. how can you judge on the sound recorded with a handycam mic... i have one its just amazing
This is awsome. You have to remember alot of this technology was 'new' when he was messing with it, he was just getting kicks with it, seeing what he could do. Awsome home vid!!!!!!!!

remember Eddie is the greatest ever because he survived the Rockstar lifestyle past age 27... you can watch stuff from 2015 and he is as sharp as a tack... knew how to have a good time without killing himself
while agree with everything you say, he didnt invent the floating tremolo, he actually was one of the first to put it flat against the body to improve tuning stability.
You know Eddie’s having a good time when it’s a “2 cigarettes in the headstock” night!
Unfortunately that’s what killed him.
Still didn't try to light the filter though, so you know you can have one more drink.
Hell yeah!!
Meth.....Sad..
One of them was a joint
When he stopped and said, "You having fun?" something just went completely through me. The man knew what good music could do for the listener. His passion was to entertain and give his music to people so they could have a good time and shake off stress and hard times. Thank you Eddie for your wonderful music.
We will never forget you.
Yup, he's drunk, at home having fun. And he was still playing better than about 99.5% of the guitar players out there.
100%
" it's my house, you don't like it, you can get the fuck out!" Eddie Murphy lol. MAN this must have been a fuckin TREAT to be at!!!! I wish there was more!
Geez. .just crazy. Never met him. But I miss him.
I don't know how Eddie can still play that smashed with all the bells and whistles chiming perfectly. I would never be able to hold on to my guitar in that position. That's a ROCK GOD!
this wasn't in Eddie's backyard, it was at Spicoli's birthday party.
From saving brooke shields
hahahaha!
I was there! Spicoli was quite the host hey, I got to meet Brooke Shields and I got to hang out with mr. Hand! I've been in that room I even hooked up was Stacy Hamilton! True story!
Those were some righteous bucks.
All I need is a cool breeze, nice bud & Van muthaf*ckin' Halen bro!
for all you haters out there, eddie wasnt at his best in my video but he invented some of the greatest music of all time. what have you done for us?
I partied with Dimebag Darrell. A bunch. It doesn't add anything to the world, but it's pretty fucking cool.
I love these impromptu music videos. Its " real" life.
Who eves ragging, on Ed, remember his the one with 100 million in the bank. Plus he is having fun!!!!
I agree, Mike. Life is too complicated with its ebbs and flows to spend it judging others.
That's what makes it fucking Awesome! I love it!
Listen to that crowd, they are eating up every note and loving it. This guy had such control of his instrument it was impossible not to be entranced by his playing. He still plays better than most sober people.
Greatest guitar player ever.
Still counts
Heartbreaking to see him like this
I love the titles of some of these videos, EVH in his backyard, EVH at his house, EVH playing eruption while taking a shit.
I haven't seen that one lol
Eruption while taking a shit is a sight to behold I would imagine
@@turolretar two burritos and a root beer float.

Imagine seeing an 18 year old kid in 1977 doing this at some backyard LA party cause that's what happened.
The stories of VH playing backyard parties in Pasadena are legendary --- so much beer & pussy at those gigs
There was over 2000 people at a backyard VH concert back then, police had to block the streets off -- and they got busted a few times too.
where did you read that story?, i want to read it pls
he was 22 in 1977 but yeah still awesome
My dad went to Pasadena high and his youngest brother Victor was friends with Ed. They each played lead guitar in their own bands. He's had a couple drinks, says nothing about his playing generally.
"When I'm on drugs, I couldn't even find my guitar" - Willie Nelson
I am not a rock guitar fan but when I hear EVH, my heart vibrates so hard. he is the man.
Let me Say this. What a life!!! to have lived. Eddie Van Halen was awed by every Rock musician in the world. Exactly. Thanks to Mr. Reed for posting this gem.
This is the best, raw and real, shit faced maybe, but raw and real. I wish I could have been there 👍
I love a musician who will just experiment to see what happens. Thanks for this Eddie. If it was not for the experiment everyone would sound the same.
Even drunk he sounds amazing! lol, really
making his guitar sound identical to a violin or cello is the most impressive part of the entire solo
that's Eddie... u still my fave rock guitarist ever...
This is a bad ass solo....your lucky to have seen this live.
Partying or not, he still sounds great & when he asks “are u having fun “ , shows that he’s not some rock star....he’s just having a great time loving what he’s doing.
new alarm clock 6am in heaven eruption! ty evh i feel like i was lucky to see you 3 times 80 81 82 in florida!

Thanks for documenting Eddies tone, his signature EVH amps turned off and the Marshall jcm900 dual reverb on the floor pretending to be a door stop is doing all the work!
Those amps are chainsaws. No wonder He's playing the Marshall.
Drunk or high... or whatever... when it comes to rock guitar: there’s EVH, and there’s everybody else.
I'm 64 yrs old he inspired a generation of wanna be Eddies and we are all better for it I've been playing guitar 🎸 for 46+ years GOD bless your soul Edward van Halen lest we forget him I never will go mammoth I love you all

Very awesome, up-close & intimate performance by EVH! Big thumbs-up, thanks for the upload!
Awesome. My favorite one yet.
Amazing, of course, but a very dark era for Ed...... love seeing him have fun here.

Watching EVH play eruption in his own back yard! how cool! thanks for sharing this man. Jeff Spicoli lives!
Guys having fun, goofing off on his own time, getting loose. Stop judging.
I agree
EXCELLENT WAKE UP VEDIOS
THANKS FOR SHARING
Thanks for recording this. He might have gone through a difficult time in his life, but what a great talent he has. I always wondered how he made those sound efects in the song , but now I know.

He was truly himself and most comfortable I think on stage in front of people.
This is Gold!! Love it truly the way he was just awesome thanks for sharing!

Here we have proof that Ed is still a living master of modern guitar. Only fools mock talent such as this. Thanks Eddie and Alex and thanks mike reed!
It's good to see Eddie clean and sober here. He looks healthy and his playing is tight!
Blah Playhard sarcasm lol
+Blah Playhard I wish I could play 10 percent of that, sober or drunk, or whatever ;)
What the actual fuck are you talking about he is all fucked up here
That's what I said.

What the?
yeah, you watch your "friends" get wasted, lose their families for "fun"
Being one of the greatest living guitarist surely has it's demands and pressures... it's good to see Eddie having fun with his friends and not giving a shit. Imagine...
"What's making all of that GD noise?"
"It's just Eddie Van Halen rocking live in his back yard down the street again."

Eddie is truely a master in his craft !!!!
What? He was untouchable. So good!
Sounds like a violin 🎻
Eddie in my book is still one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) guitar players of all time. Jimi broke a lot of the molds, but Eddie really broke away and re-invented the guitar. Lol - even on his WORST day, this guy is still a guitar God.
He's just drunk and having good time!
Wow, I like this version!
I'm glad Eddie has cleaned real nice and has sobered now. I got to see them in 2012 at Bridgestone and they kicked so much ass that night.
Does anyone know around what year this video was taken? Great Video of Eddie!
Ed shredding his ass off then asking his guests, "are you having fun?"....priceless....
Ed was doddering around onstage like his soul bro DLR does today, and then he asked the friends he hired for the night to clap at the shite he wanked on guitar

I LOVE THIS ✳️🎇⭐⭐⭐🎇✳️
Eddie was originally a 70's guy. People son't realize that. But, he was way ahead of his time on that axe.
0:42 the famous EVH jump !! Hammered or not that's cool
Two cigarettes on top of the tuning keys. Because... one is not enough when you are Ed Van Halen. Love it. But very glad he's sober now (as far as I know).
awesome
This is when Eddie literally looked like Frankenstein. Was glad he cleaned up later on. 🤙🏼
That would be The famous Johnny Rivers' house up on the hill behind Eddie in the opening shots I presume.
i can only wonder how many times eddie has played eruption...lol brings back memories with VH were gods of rock-n-roll

Me, Eddie..... and a burrito with lots of hot sauce.... Love him🙏🏻♥️🎸....RIP EVH💥
Also, the EVH 5150 amp didn't come out until post 2008 (I believe). Of course they could be a prototypes. Definitely within the past 5 years.

When was this party?!?! This is awesome!
I am grateful to Eddie, he is a true guitar God
💖💖 Eddie 💖💖
This is awsome. You have to remember alot of this technology was 'new' when he was messing with it, he was just getting kicks with it, seeing what he could do. Awsome home vid!!!!!!!!
