- Living in Vienna for over 30 years now and paying around 45% in income tax, we can surely say that it's definitely not the cheapest city!
But is it really that expensive? How much salary would you need to maintain a standard Viennese lifestyle?

i think it's not emphasized enough that if you live and work in Vienna, you don't really *need* a car. public transport is really good (lots of trams, buses, metro lines and even s-bahn) and with the annual pass it costs only 1€ per day! if you need a car occasionally, there are plenty of carsharing and other rental options.

Hi thanks for the video! And the info, I have a question, and what about taxes and healthcare insurance? In Germany healthcare was a must in order to live there and it was min 300 eur per month. That would rise the price a lot more, right?

Wow!!! That is sooooo expensive! You must be very well paid. I live in Australia and it is a VERY expensive country, we own our own home and rarely eat out & only use our car a couple of times a month otherwise we walk everywhere (we live in the city centre of Brisbane), we don’t have heating expenses because Brisbane is hell on earth for heat unfortunately for 6 months of the year, we only use the air-conditioning at night so we can sleep and still our minimum WEEKLY living costs $700. But I would happily pay more to live somewhere beautiful like Austria or France or Scandinavia or the Czech Republic or Canada - anywhere it’s NOT hot and is green…

Hey Viktor, it all depends on experience, performance and the position. It’s difficult to confirm a certain salary range because not every master graduate earns € 3k or more. But it’s feasible and not unrealistic.
Cheap compared to most UK cities
You also need permission from the Goverment to move there, especially Seniors, you need enough money to prove, you can support your self.
May i ask how much your husband earns? We are also considering to moving there and this is a great video to see some everyday costs/ monthly costs.
May i ask is you receive Kindergeld? How much is it in Austria? What are the basic points that you should complete in order to get kindergeld? Are there any Zuschüsse to the Kindergeld? There are many interesting neighborhoods to discover in Vienna, which is a lovely city. Consider staying in one of the neighborhoods in the outlying districts, like Döbling, Hernals, or Währing, if you're looking for a more tranquil, residential area to stay in. These areas provide a more local, residential feel and are well-connected to the city center via public transportation. The inner districts, which are more centrally located and provide quick access to many of Vienna's top attractions, include Landstraße, Alsergrund, and Neubau. As an alternative, you might think about staying in one of these areas.

For someone who think to move to Vienna - how does the locals "embrace" the imigrants? I don't speak about ones that runing from their countries and with no money, but about those who move to Vienna with their jobs and with degrees. Does the Austrians friendly with people from abroad?

Generally speaking, immigrants are welcomed and friendly by the locals, regardless of their financial situation or family background. Having said that, it is always advisable to respect local traditions and customs when residing in a new nation and, if at all possible, try to learn the native tongue. This may make it simpler for you to integrate into the community and enhance your enjoyment of living in Vienna. Video on that topic coming soon :)

I wanted to know if a non german speaking people can earn about 3000€ per month or approx.. and can u make a video sharing the job marker details in vienna for non german speakers or those who can talk in german properly bt understand to some extent.
There are jobs who don't require you to speak german, however i can only recommend learning it(even if its after coming to austira). Since it isn't well received if you don't make an effort learning the native language. Which is true in most countries.
Salary is depended on your qualifications, so thats up to you. I should mention that salary is usually talked about in context after tax deductions. So 3k before tax deduction is around 1.5-1.7k a month after taxes get deducted and if you want to earn 3k after tax deduction you probably would need to earn more than 5k a month

good point. You're right...Kindergarten in Vienna start around 70€ per month - as you only pay for the food and not the childcare itself.

I'm a developer from an EU country, and i got an offer for remote working living in Austria, 50.000€ gross.
to me it sounds like this would be 30.000€ netto.
over 14 months this would be 2142€ monthly.
i assume to live alone (single guy, no kids) i would need around 1500€ with everything included.
This would be from gym membership to rental.
This would mean i could save around 600€ per month.
Does this sound realistic?? Help! Idk if this is a good offer or not! And would I be living stress free, not worrying about the money?

Our kids still go to Kindergarten and it's semi-private. In Vienna we have a great selection of good public schools but of course also great private schools. Prices range from 100€ month up to 500€ / month - and in some cases even above.

Although my job would be in English, I think that low level of German could be obstacle. What do you think? It really depends on the circumstances you have in Vienna. I don’t have facts but just personal impression says that more and more expats are moving to Vienna - as a result also our systems are shifting towards dual-language.
So it’s definitely much better than 20y ago but not comparable to many other (northern) European countries.
But it’s definitely feasible as our parents moved to Austria with 0 language skills :)
Learn German or your life will be extremely hard in a German speaking country. It's a really simple rule - learn the language of the country you move to.

If you have like 1,7k net its ok for a normal living. Many people in vienna also live with less. But for 1,7k net you need like 2,3k gross. Taxes includes health care and so on. But i think, when you got an offer from another country, your salary will be higher.

Challenging to give you a customized response here. First we have to understand how the life of a senior can be different to a life of a non-senior :)
@@KhyatiPuria Understandable. Seniors typically require more medical attention, easy access to markets, and generally seniors need a walkable lifestyle. Moderate climate. Public transportation. We are now accustomed to walking for groceries, or catching a bus. Years ago I drove hours to work in Los Angeles

I'm a native but from what I've heard some cops might. At least you don't need to worry about getting shot. Other than that people might exoticize you which can make it difficult to form genuine connections. Especially if your german isn't fluent I figure it's difficult to be consistently taken seriously in day to day life. People might be quite welcoming but a bit performative about it.
We are easy people. We usually treat people how they treat us. Aka if you are nice to people, people will be nice to you and of course if you are an arse, they will be one back. Be aware; Vienna is known to be one of the most unfriendly cities but that's just how we roll. We are a grumpy folk but help nonetheless. However: one important thing is to learn our language and about our culture. It is okay if you are not fluent as long as we see that you are willing to learn, nobody will complain. Especially in Vienna, if you are nice to people, nobody will have a problem speaking English to you or find someone who can speak a language you can communicate with.

yes, i am native in austria and as a single person i need around 600-800€ a month for basic living requirments(rent, food, electricity, gas, ect.). Minimum wage is around 900€, but full time jobs usually pay around 1.200-1.400€. So i have enough to enjoy other activities and save in the meantime.
However that might change now, since austria is very dependent on rusian gas, so the living costs might rise significantly in the future

Health insurance will be automatically deducted from your salary. You don’t have to pay additionally. The more you earn the higher your stake in the social security system.
