- We noticed this morning that Luna's struggling to walk & her legs have unfortunately, gotten worse. We have a few possible solutions and today we're gonna try to make this old girl feel better.
Hi there! 👋🏻 We live on a 1-acre farm right in the middle of the busy city of Phoenix, Arizona! Our names are Kevin & DaNelle, and we moved here in 2009, when our kids Ethan & Lydia were just 6 & 4 years old 🥰 Over the years we've raised goats for milk, chickens for eggs, built a fish/swim pond, planted fruit & nut trees, and grew a large garden full of veggies. We've also raised a bunch of other animals like pigs, sheep, turkeys, geese, peacocks, and more!
Now that our kids are away at college, we have settled into doing what we love most -- which is raising & breeding goats ethically to improve genetics. But don't worry, we'll forever love our goofy pet goats like Luna the herd queen & Willow the stump lover. We also still love raising chickens for eggs, gardening, tending to the fruit & nut trees, and growing fish in the pond. We use the fresh goat's milk to make cheese, butter, yogurt -- and we use that + everything else we harvest on our little farm to make delicious meals. Having a getaway from the busy world right in our backyard brings so much joy to us each day, and we hope it brings some to you, too. 🥰

Anyone else love how Danelle thinks the goats will behave and not all go into labour at the same time to mess up her stall schedule
It's the funniest thing, animals will wait. Every time my mom's dog had puppies it was a day she was off or ended up being forced off (nurse) so she was home 😂
The dates are predicted dates, if more does go into labor than stalls. She knows who can be together in a stall.

@Danii ours did too on her 2 pregnancies. She waited for us to get home. Then, pops them out immediately.
She's about to get spayed, next month. So, no more babies for her even if she loves newborn puppies.

I'm so sorry. Before my beloved chihuahua passed on, I took him to the vet. She said, "old age is not a disease." It's all about the quality of life; if she has none, I'm sure you will make the right decision for her. At least she got to have some fun with a buck recently!

DaNelle, can you have Luna’s front legs X-rayed to find out whether there are internal problems? Perhaps you could send the X-rays to a vet school to have them looked at by a specialist. Luna is my absolute favorite goat❤ and I really want to see her to get back to living her best life!
The vet said the X-ray would just confirm what they know about her weak joints from her previous owners not trimming her feet.

You and your family have done the best you could do for Luna. She has lived a long, fun filled, safe, and happy 12years. The hardest part is knowing when to make the end call on your farm animals. Praying for you all.

Not sure if this applies to goats but when we had difficult horses who didn't like to take their pills we sometimes would soak the pills in a little bit water then put the paste in a syringe and then it was easier to give by mouth.

I'm so thankful that you guys are going to do what you can to ease Luna's pain. I understand the pressure you're probably under from viewers to just keep going, whatever it takes...but I also know there comes a time when it's much more humane to put an animal down. I appreciate the struggle between those two options as we've gone both routes with pets before. Luna is precious and a fan favorite! We'll love her wonky walk and crusty hooves forever! 🥺🥺💜💜
Those Shots of the girls in pairs were to dang cute for my heart to handle. I am glad we're doing everything we can for Luna. She has had a special place in my heart for many years now.
I would think the Vet could ok Daily Meloxicam for pain. If she's not in as much pain, she may walk more. I'm sorry sweet Luna❤️

The birthing stalls look great with the new mats, definitely will be easier to clean! Luna is still the Queen and as she ages all you can do is make her as comfortable as possible. You did good on the haircut as well. 👍🙂
Luna reminds me of my Lhasa Apso named Lasya! She was tiny in comparison but had the identical wonky waddling walk with her tummy almost grazing the floor! I had a special bond with her and now she lives in my heart and I can finally remember her antics and laugh 💕

Aww Sweet Luna! I love old Nubians! My old Nubian herd queen lived to be 12. She didn't have bad feet, but her joints got creeky in her last couple years. She was the best goat I had!

5 seconds in and the tears are welling. I've been through this before. Cod liver oil is high in vitamin E, dose her up to help ease the ligaments. I used to use injectable vitamin E as well.😔 ❤️🇦🇺 Love you Luna❤️❤️❤️

I don't think you'll see this as I'm late to this upload, but rather than those boots you'll have more luck with thick yoga matting and vetwrap!!
We splurged on the boots for our horse when our (previous) 'farrier' butchered his fronts and took off 90% of his hoof sole. The boots literally fell apart within a week :( and they were a massive pain in the butt to get on and off. Better off just using the yoga mat and vetwrap, and you can always layer elastoplast on top if she's too rough on them
I think the biggest thing that people needs to consider is that sometimes quality should be over quantity, I hope whatever you try works as I love seeing her on the channel but know that you guys will do what is best for her!
