  • Magicshine’s Allty series of headlights features everything from commuter headlights to multi-thousand lumen headlight options. The new Allty 1500S is one of the latest additions to the Allty lineup and upgrades the previous Allty 1500 with some exciting new features. With a retail price of $109.99 the Allty 1500S offers 1500 lumen of output and a removable 5000mAh cartridge style battery. The headlight also features dual lighting elements with a DRL and a single focused LED for long distance visibility. One of the other big features of the Allty 1500S is the OLED screen which displays the battery status, estimated time remaining and the lumen output for the active mode. The headlight modes can also connect via Bluetooth to the Magicshine’s App for mode customization and a wireless remote.
    As with the other Magicshine Allty headlights, the 1500S uses a standard Garmin quarter turn style mount molded into the base of the housing. This allows the Allty 1500S to be used with a variety of third-party Garmin compatible mounts. Magicshine includes a simple plastic handlebar mount with a plastic strap, the same one that’s found on most of their headlights, that lets you mount the light onto your handlebar. It’s one of our least favorite designs as it uses a strap and bolt design that is a bit tedious to install or remove from a bike. With multiple straps included the mount can be used on aero bars, commuter bars or standard handlebars. As always, we’d recommend using an out-front mount instead like the Magicshine TTA or Topeak UTF mount. The Allty 1500S is also a non-directional headlight which means you can mount it upside down on the bottom slot of an out-front mount. The only downside of the upside-down mounting is that the button and OLED screen are out of view.
    The Magicshine Allty 1500S takes the previous Allty 1500 to the next level with multiple hardware and software upgrades. Visually, the light keeps the same rectangular design the Allty light series is known for with a metal housing. The light also features a dual lighting design with a horizontal DRL on the top and a powerful single LED below it. The lens is a simple non-directional design with a standard cone beam and a raised lens for improved side visibility. Due to the additional height of the DRL, the front portion of the light also protrudes below the main body of the headlight giving the Allty 1500S a unique appearance from the side...

    I like this removable battery design. I can prepare an extra battery, so the headlight's battery life no longer bothers me.😊

    I just wonder if the the Ray2600B is a better light. The beam cutoff is a must for me as well

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  Před 10 měsíci +4

      The Ray 2600B doesn't actually have a beam cutoff, it just uses a basic horizontal diffuser to spread the light from the right LED. If you want a real-cutoff you might want to checkout the Outbound Lighting Detour. Otherwise, Magicshine has some new higher-output beam cutoff lights in the works that will be releasing soon.

    Only downside is the weight. If they can incorporate a electric honk into the light through the remote control would be perfect.

    Allty 1500S or Fenix BC26R?
    I really like the (Allty) garmin mount, but does it really work well upside down?
    Anyway, I like the Fenix design better. :)

      @TheSweetCyclists  Před 10 měsíci +1

      The Allty 1500S can easily be used upside down - the beam is not directional and there is no beam cutoff. Personally I like the Allty 1500S more than the Fenix because of the OLED screen - BUT if you use it upside down the screen is pointless. Also - Fenix has a nice GoPro adapter which also lets you easily mount it upside down as well.

    Is there definitely no beam shaping going on (thinking about mounting upside down under a stem mount)? In the beam shot @8:14 it looks like there's a shape to the light, but perhaps it's an optical illusion. Also, can the light be charged and working at the same time? Am wondering about scope for longer runtimes with a USB battery pack?

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  Před 9 měsíci +1

      The Allty 1500S can be used upside down, I think what you are seeing is the DRL extending the beam shape. If you flip it, the DRL will be on the bottom but the main LED still has a standard cone shape. Also, the light does work with a battery connected so you should be able to recharge it on the go.

    stvzo has very high limits for output, they're only stringent about shape. My stvzo lupine is an assault on the senses even before you flick the high beam on.

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  Před 10 měsíci +4

      Yes you're correct. Talking with some lompanies it seems like the challenge with StVZO is creating a bright light that stays within the narrow allowed beam width (higher output can spread output more). There is definitely a big trend toward StVZO or at least beam-cutoff lights these days (Lupine / Trek Commuter Pro RT / Topeak WhiteLite). Magicshine has a few in the works that you'll see reviews for soon.

    Which one would you recommend ?
    Magicshine EVO 1300
    MagicShine RAY 1600B
    Magicshine ALLTY 1500S
    I’m riding XL bike with raised Handlebars concern about blinding others and solid beam with cut off I like please help

      Have you considered the Magicshine EVO 1700 instead? It has a sharp beam cutoff like the EVO 1300 but a bit more power. The RAY and ALLTY series just have soft beam cutoffs which still have glare.

    Too bad about the proprietary battery and the Garmin mount. I really don't get why are manufacturers using it on flashlights.

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  Před 4 měsíci

      If you want a bike light with generic battery cells I think the Fenix lights and Reelight Lux are probably your best bets. This Allty 1500S at least has a removable battery though, most lights have integrated designs.

  • @77pg77

    Poor battery life. They claimed an autonomy of 3h30 at maximum capacity on the technical sheet but in reality it is around 60-90 min at 1500 lumen. They claim their numbers are based on ANSI/NEMA FL 1-2009. This is rubbish. Their specified runtime uses lighting time down to 0 lumens while ANSI/NEMA FL 1-2009 estimates runtime up to 10% output. There is also a problem with the accuracy of the remaining battery time. I tried to be diplomatic and contacted them for explanations and a solution to the problems, without success.

    A pro and somewhat con is the replaceable battery. Good that's it's replaceable, bad that it's proprietary..

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Yes, it's a pro and con. Assuming Magicshine continues to sell the battery replacements it should be a lot cheaper than buying an entirely new light once the battery becomes depleted.

    Great that products again have started to have replaceable batteries - and it will become EU law by 2027 anyway. But sooo stupid it's not a standard 18650 battery...

      That's great to hear, the EU laws seem to be really pushing companies toward re-usable product designs and standardized charging ports.
