When I first came into Sheldon Hobbies in January 2020; there were certain plastic models such as like Jimmy Johnson's original, #48 Lowe's Home Improvement NASCAR race car, it didn't need any paint or glue. & the decals were stickers, not water soluble decals.

I'm curious about the tyre decals - could they be sealed with a mist of varnish?
I tried, but they just didn't adhere very well in the first place. I made the mistake of applying them before putting the wheels rims in, so when I did the bending of the rubber caused the decals to peel and break.
Im curious how you addressed those gaps for the side pod panels
Hi William. If I remember correctly, I filled them with putty (Vallejo water based putty) and then sanded them smooth with the rest of the bodywork.

I'm building this right now and the rear spoiler is such a pain! Do you have any tips?
Hehe...I wish I did! They're always a problem part. I generally paint them before assembly and then try to sand the joints as much as possible before gluing. I think here I used tiny dabs of super glue applied using a thin piece of wire or similar, keeping it small to avoid damaging the paint. But getting it square...yeah...I used the lines on my cutting mat to help, but it isn't easy. Good luck with the kit - it builds into a very nice model so it's worth it!
@@ModelNerd those are good tips, thanks. I wouldn't have thought of using the cutting mat to line it up. I've made older F1 cars before and the spoilers are much simpler!
How do you get the decals out of the sheet, do you have to cut round them?
Hi Luke. Yes, you have to cut the individual decals out from the main sheet. However, you don't have to cut very close to the edges of each decal because the carrier film normally extends about a millimetre around each decal, if that makes sense?

Does anyone know if these model kits are still for sale anywhere? Or even the Jordan 196?
The only Jordans that Revell made were the 197 and the EJ10 as far as I know. They are no longer being produced but they can still be found on eBay.

Yes, I used glue. Often I show dry fitting in the videos though.
Beautiful kit. The only thing I don't like are the ugly tires revell packed with this model. I believe they improved them but I don't know after Wich model kit.
Yep, the tyres are not nice. I do wish the manufacturers would bring us more F1 kits like this in 1/20 though.

These old Revell kits are generally not available in the shops: eBay is probably your best bet (it's where I got mine).
and even the PlayStation and the MasterCard logos
It's amazing how decals bring these cars to life. Every single time I've built an F1 kit I've thought "this looks awful" just before decal application.
Dunno how I came across this but looks class in the end, not something I'd ever do. Didn't look fun.

To be honest, the fit, overall quality, and occasionally even the proportions of many Studio27 kits is shockingly poor, particularly given the price tags. Would you rather close gaps and make adjustments on a cheap injection kit, or on a far more expensive resin/multimedia kit?
That's useful to know, thanks. For less common cars I've been looking at two options: the Studio 27 1/20 kits and the Tameo 1/43 kits. The Tameo kits start around 60 USD; the Studio 27 at double that - but of course they're significantly bigger. The problem is there are so few reviews of any of them online.
@@ModelNerd My advice would be to go to the F1M.com forums and try searching for work in progress(WIP) threads of particular models that interest you. You may be able to find photos and discussion of someone else's build of a particular model. Register and ask about the models that you're looking at. It's damn near guaranteed that at least one of the regular users over there owns, previously owned, has built, or has started building just about any F1 (and racing sports car) kit you can find.

Your builds are always outstanding. But why do you waste your time with a Revell F1 kit? It’s not worthy of your skills. I’d love to see you tackle a Tamiya 1/12 F1 kit. Still, an excellent video with lots of modeling wisdom and an impressive result in spite of the poor fit of many parts.
Thanks mate. The Revell kits often represent the only kits of these cars, other than very expensive resin or multimedia kits :) They're not terrible, but definitely not Tamiya quality.

Remember the 911 turbo in 1:24? Since than, I built only Tamiya and Hasegawa, sometimes Italeri-pearls...
Can you imagine a company, which is unable - for at least half of a century (!) - to produce accurate models? Are you kidding? Revell is for masochists with a wheelbarrow of craftmanship. What do people feel as an employee of Revell walking on a modeling-fair?
But then, if you want to build certain kits (like this one), you don't have a lot of choice...
I just can't stand that some of the F1 scale models are 1/20 and some are 1/24. If I wanted to buy a kit from Fujimi and then Revell or Hasegawa made another one which I want to have with that Fujimi kit together, I just can't because it will look freaking stupid tho'. And there's even a fact that Hasegawa makes 1/20 but even 1/24. Why!?
Yeah, Hasegawa mixing scales like that is a bit odd. The way I look at it, a lot of these cars are available in 1:20 but only as expensive multimedia kits that cost several hundred dollars each. Given that choice, I'll go for the 1:24 versions.
@@ModelNerd The price doesn't really matter for me but my most expensive kit was the fujimi Williams FW16 which costed around 50 dolars. I'm talking about that that Revell makes nice kits including this Jordan or Benetton B194 which I like the most personally but nobody else isn't making it so I can't buy them even if I like them a lot, which is very very sad :(
@@carguychannel8400 Sometimes you can get conversion decals for similar cars. I think there are Jordan 192 decals available in 1:20 scale that could be applied to the Tamiya 191. I have Benetton B194 decals in 1:20 scale which I am going to apply to the Tamiya B192 in a future video.
