1. Got so salty that Lincoln won the DEMOCRATIC election fair and square that they seceded from the U.S.
2. This caused the Civil War which resulted in the MOST American deaths of any war by a large margin
3. What were they fighting for? For states rights, of course. The state right of SLAVERY. (Which is bad, in case you were wondering)

It's interesting to me that I find whenever race is brought up in a segment certain people get uncomfortable. Race is a factor in the top sports of America because the majority of the athletes that play football and basketball are black. When there are issues in this country that arise whether it be political or racial these athletes have a platform to speak on it. The tension that's felt when these topics are brought up may come from some deep rooted resentment that you may have to examine. I don't have a problem with these topics being discussed because it opens dialogue with opposing views. If that's not something you like you can choose not to watch it. The conversation of race is one that should have been had a long time ago. That's what's dividing this country now is ignorance and lack of communication and leadership.
Certain people(white people) don't like to talk about race because they know that most of the time the only reason it's brought up is to make them feel guilty about something their ancestors MIGHT have done.

From my experience people will try to "claim" that this is southern pride but this is all about white pride no matter how you try to cut it. Most are still stuck in this civil war mindset and wouldn't bat an eye twice about certain issues. There is no need to sugar coat this topic. Not every person who flies the Confederate Flag engages in this general thinking but those who grew up in the rural south understand where I am coming from. If that flag is flying there is an unspoken rule too keep it moving.
African Americans fly the Confederate flag with pride. The Confederate flag that you see is a rebel Battle flag that is a pride of the South. it has nothing to do with white pride has everything to do with pride in the south in fighting against the North. It's a symbol of the toughness of the South and the pride they hold in that. if you're not from the south you don't understand the reasoning for that and it has nothing to do with race. I've seen many races here in the South hold that flag it's a symbol of southern pride.

A flag cannot be racist. It is only the people who view it to be. This flag today just represents the South, not racism. Also, I understand and respect people's opposing views. However, people who say this is a "Confederate flag" have not done their research. This was an unofficial battle flag for two armies: the army of Tennessee and the Army of North Virginia. This was never an official flag of the Confederacy, so therefore it is not a Confederate flag. I am still flying this flag high (only under the Old Glory).

Whenever I heard the term "Confederate flag" it was either by liberals who were whining about being offended, or descendants of the Confederacy. Even though the Rebel flag is different from the Confederate flag, groups like the "Sons of Confederate Veterans" might call it a Confederate flag. It doesn't bother me. Although the "Rebel" flag is not an official name for it, it was just a name that was associated with it.

As a man of color and as a nascar fan of 19 years, yes its bullshit to have seen those flags at races all the time. Although a lot of people waving those flags on shirts or campers have treated me well offering food and beer. Now in reality the flag is messed up because of what it truly represents but to a lot of fans that flag is just their culture. You never know who's really racist and who just loves their heritage when they're all blanketed under the confederate flag.

I would say it's a stretch that he finally put himself in the shoes of the oppressed. Maybe he did in his own way, but what I saw was him continuing to promote the ridiculous argument that we have to somehow see in to the soul of every single bigot and understand before we label large swaths of people. Not to mention his ongoing blind defense and rationalization of the white power establishment. Here he just barely conceded to Stephen A what he was forced to; but he still resisted Max's accurate and thorough argument.

You can not like the flag or hate it but people have the right to have, buy and show it. Dangerous things will come if we start taking away rights. Today you might agree with the country takes away but in the future you might not agree with what they take.

Just like the white americans can't tell us african-americans how to feel about the flag, we cant tell them how to feel about it either. Until we can both see each others viewpoints and history for what they truly are, racism will never disappear.
Well said, unfortunately white Americans and black Americans have all but stopped talking about any uncomfortable issues which in turn leads to misunderstanding and rush to judgment. United we stand, divided we fall. This country needs unity and common ground, patriotism if you will, because right now there's a lot of countries around this world watching what's going on over here and are enjoying the Divide.
