I've probably watched this performance over 50 times with all the reactions I've seen. Still one of the best award show performances of all time from any artist in my opinion. And people wonder why I don't care for watching western award shows (unless BTS is on it of course). I don't know why artists can't have performances like this on award shows. So many music artists are just so boring to watch and many of them resort to being half naked and going for shock value rather than giving a quality performance.

nah epic is an understatement. This performance is every word in the dictionary that means fantastic, amazing, unique, just everything that means good.
The first time I watched Jimin danced during this award show I cried, too. Tears unconsciously just poured out (I still do when i rewatched it). I never realized that just seeing someone dance can evoke so much emotions to those blessed to experience it
Korean award shows are crazy! Their MAMA performance that happend that same year was also really good. They usually save them for the end because they're always given more time to perform than some of the other artist. You're reactions are so fun! Keep going 🤗
it shows how far they've come because when they first started out they were given the shortest amount of time during awards season but now they're towards the end so they can have the longest amount of time the would possibly need....

I get wrecked by each member based on song style of performance and the way they performe the lyrics via actual song versus when they perform it live so that's why I say I"m OT7

Also the last performance was filled with remixes of their older songs! That made the performance so much cooler! Even the songs that the members danced to by themselves were remixes of their older songs!

Don't worry, the horse part was prerecorded before the real award show begin. It's only showed up for the broadcast. So when the actual live performance started, there was no horse on stage 😁
Sometimes some parts are pre-recorded, and this part with the horses is one of them.
Jungkook is known to be one of the most stable while dancing
MMA 2020 is amazing, I highly recommend it, although unfortunately Suga couldn't participate because he was recovering from surgery, and because it was done during the pandemic, it was recorded and without an audience
I know right..even when jumping, running, dancing, and kicking around like that, Jungkook's vocal will always still so on point and stable even when he sang so many parts istg that man..
This whole award show became a BTS concert, love it. And yep, 100%, Jungkook's stability is just insane, people think he has three sets of lungs because of his impeccable control, even while dancing hard. He really is so skilled, amazes me all the time.
Some of this was filmed the day before (horses++) but JM’s performance is live (you can hear the crowds reaction)
I think Namjoon's performance was recorded before hand... he has a different mic in the performance to the one he had with the other members.... that's one I could believe was recorded beforehand...
@@E_btsot798 if I remember correctly most of the solos where prerecorded ( I know JK’s solo and the horses were prerecorded for safety reasons and I know JM’s was live, the rest I’m not 100% sure about) somewhere there is a clip from behind the scenes or them commenting on it…
All solo performances except jimin’s were prerecorded for the broadcast. They all performed their solos live in front of the audience during the show. The only difference is that jimin’s live performance in front of the audience was broadcasted, while the prerecorded performances of the others were broadcasted
Yeah they said that Jimins performance was pre recorded but when the day came for the performance he said he wasn't satisfied with the pre recorded version and decided to do it live

Jungkook is pretty well known for how stable his voice is while he's dancing, so you caught it well. Not that everybody else isn't insane when it comes to this. I would choke on the first syllable if I made even one of the moves they're making 😆
Also, V serving looks 😄. Also typical for him. He just knows how to work with the camera.
Boy In Luv ends with the "finger guns" look of their original image. Boy with Luv - which is their matured call-out about what love really is -- changes Jungkook's hand to the "I love you" sign in sign language at the end, but the camera operator focused on the wrong hand. It's meant to be a full-circle moment.

This is definitely a great performance, and since you mentioned Jungkook several times I think you should watch Jungkook the main vocalist of BTS it goes more indepth of exactly his role in the group, like becoming the main vocalist right after they debuted at a very young age. It gives his perspective on things and has others talking about his talents like producers and vocal coaches along with the band members themselves its quite interesting. Im glad you are enjoying BTS so far, keep enjoying the journey.

I love your reactions to BTS!!!! Girl you have officially been put under the "Jimin effect"! Jimin can make any breathing thing fall in love with him. They have many videos of the "Jimin effect" because it has affected many people (male and female). You should check it out when you get a chance! As you mentioned in the video about Jungkook is such a strong performer! He becomes whole other person when he's on stage. Once I started watching live performances of BTS he became one of my bias. They would run on treadmills and sing to practice being stable during performances, Jungkook especially gives his all and is known to be very stable
Mikrokosmos, my all time favorite out of the whole discography and that's saying alot. The Mikrokosmos part was a mix of pre recorded and AR. The galaxy effects only seen on broadcast, not live. This performance, is indescribable.
Only BTS can turn an award show into their own concert. Mikrocosmos is such an ARMY song. They are singing to every human being on the planet. I have never seen a performance as wild as Dionysus. This has always been my favorite set of performances. Chef's kiss.
The concept of Asian award shows in general and the reality of the 2019 MMAs in particular is something that all international BTS fans have to come to grips with. It's like a rite of passage!
Their stage at the 2018 MMAs is equally stunning -- they were getting a lot of flack at the time, with people saying that they were becoming "westernized". This performance was definitely a response to that.

much like their song ON (2020) was the reverse of their 2013 song "N.O" (which was the beat of their dance break in "Dionysus")
and there's this song (an ARMY song) called "We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal" (2020) and they also have an older song "We Are Bulletproof Pt. 2" from their first album
they have other songs they produce as callbacks to their older ones....
Even RM's Persona's beat (the first song) was a sample of one of their older songs
That’s actually like the theme of their 2019-2020 album series... like go back to your past self, reflect on why you're doing this in the first place, cause the album talks about finding yourself, facing your fears and accepting your flaws... (idk if I'm making any sense lol) and BTS in the early of their career, they have lots of doubts and insecurities and we're so glad that they overcome that

The boys' individual performances (except Jimin's dancing which was live on the day) and the intro to Dionysus with the horses was filmed the day before and aired while broadcasting along with the rest of the performance ☺️
This was an EPIC performance 🤷♂️ These men are on another level… The last song was Dionysus- it is amazing, especially live (there are other performances of it, and they always kill it, and us).
Don’t fight your biases - they will ebb and flow as you get to know the members - and ultimately, we are all OT7. I have been Army since 2015 and I Need U, that is coming up to seven years now - my ultimate and original bias was and is Yoongi, but Jimin has been wrecking me every single damn day since Lie (you need to watch a live performance of his first solo song, Lie), and Hobi has been fighting with Jimin since Intro: Boy Meets Evil, then Yoongi and First Love, then Jimin in Blood Sweat and Tears, then Yoongi again in 21st Century Girls, Tae and Stigma, all four vocalists in House of Cards…and the rappers in Cypher part 4…I just gave up and let them all have me 😂😂🤷♂️ I loved Jungkook, but like a little brother - until Fake Love - I got a shock, he had grown up and he wasn’t just a sweet and amazing singer and dancer, he was a beautiful and sexy man, suddenly - and he has been dangerous ever since (5th Muster just about did me in). But all of this is just fun, and appreciation for how gorgeous they all are (Tae had me for a bit too, and Joon is testing me right now, he must stop working out) - end of the day, we love and respect and appreciate all of them for their hard work and talent, and for who they are as men - they are really good people.

You looked shocked at Jimins high note whole blending in with JK. You should watch and react to some of the videos out there of Jimins High notes.
Jimin has the highest tenor voice out of all BTS, it is said he starts around an E4 and peaks around a C#5 in his chest / mixed chest range (I sometimes wonder if he could go even higher before HAVING to go into his Falsetto range). I have also read where he sings naturally about 5 to 6 notes higher than the average man. To put it in perspective, the average tenor I believe usually peaks around note G4 for chest.
Cant wait until you learn all the songs and their meanings and significance and can go back and fully appreciate this performance on a whole other level☺️ trust me this performance is so much more epic than you even see right now! the song “Mikrocosmos” that you said has a nice beat, is actually a song that makes most armys cry (including me) Bc of the meaning

The 7 lights formed a constellation of a cup or a grail to introduce Dionysus...the goddess of wine. The horses, the lights, the dancers, the girls throwing rose pedals, the tiger, the acrobats...all that is just flex to let you know this ain't no award show featuring BTS. It's a BTS show featuring an award show.
I feel like you're making your mind up on a bias in a similar road to me. I was instantly captivated by Jimin when I first listened to them, and after a few songs and watching many live performances I realised Jungkook really did it for me. There really is something so special about how he performs ..but then again they all are such incredible performers it's hard to pick a fave!!!
Go on! You have to admit NO Grammys performance even holds a candle to this or any other BTS awards show performance. It’s like a mini BTS concert.

This performance is one of my absolute favorites of theirs. When I first watched this I didn't know a lot of their songs yet but now three of the ones they did in this are some of my favorites. Persona, which is the first rap that RM does is very poignant lyrically. When I went back and looked up the lyrics I was very impressed. Mikrokosmos, the softer one, is so incredibly sweet. I tear up whenever they perform that one. Dionysus, the final one, is so cool. I actually appreciate that you caught what the name was from since not a lot of the reactors I've watched recognize that. I already loved it anyway but when I looked it up and realized that it was about getting drunk off of creating their art I came to love it even more.
If you want to see a solid live performance of Fire I highly recommend their MAMA 2016 performance of it. It's phenomenal

Hi Alexa, congratulations on making it through MMA 2019. Don’t worry, we were all blown away too when it happened live. BTS really were at an all time high in their career at the end of 2019, after completing their Love Yourself: Speak Yourself World Tour (jokes on us though, because even though BTS was already so big, they still managed to became even bigger with their next comeback from MoTS:7, Dynamite, BE, Butter, PTD, etc. over the past 2 years.
Year-end award shows in Korea are absolutely insane and veryyyyy long (5-6 hours) - the most famous of them being the MMAs (Melon Music Awards) and the MAMAs (pronounced like ‘mama’ as in mom, stands for Mnet Asian Music Awards). It’s like a whole mini-concert event while people win award awards in between. And all the idols seating together in raised seating area attached to the stage and get to watch everyone.
That being said, BTS really went extra on this performance. It was a huge shock. The prep for THIS award show alone took about 3 months!
A good chunk of their performance was actually pre-recorded and used specifically to broadcast on television - due to all the stage sets & outfit changes. The members, however, DID perform everything live and you can see fan cams of this. Every time the camera cuts to the full audience view, that’s when we switch between a recording or a live performance.
‘Boy in Luv', 'Boy with Luv', and 'Dionysis' were all completely performed and broadcasted live. Exceptions to live performances were:
- Mikrokosmos' due to the use of AR (augmented reality) when they had all those planets and stars appear and the 'I love you' messages in multiple languages
- Jungkook's water dance (he’d be all wet for the final song otherwise lol)
- the appearance of the horses right before the final song (wouldn’t want to scare them with a live audience & loud music)
Also interesting to note:
- RM's intro performance of ‘Persona' was performed live to the audience, but without the set like we see in the pre-recorded/broadcasted version
- All the individual stages were also performed live (except JK) but fan-cams will show that the outfits are a little different from the broadcasted pre-recordings
There’s a lot going on in this performance, and it can be a little overwhelming as a baby army - especially when you’re just beginning to listen to their MASSIVE discography (don’t worry, we’ve all be there).
I’ll try to breakdown as much of the performance as possible, to the best of my knowledge.
During the 2019 MMAs BTS covered 14 songs in their discography that night, showcasing a sample of their entire career. The following songs included:
- *Intro: Persona* (RM solo song from the Map of the Soul series, there’s an MV for this)
- *Intro: What Am I to You* (when they were sitting together at the desk, they played a small snippet of the intro song off their Dark & Wild album)
- *Boy in Luv* (title track from the album Skool Luv Affair, the song’ Korean name translates to ‘manly man’)
- *Boy with Luv* (tittle track from MoTS: Persona album, the Korean title translates to ‘A Poem for Small Things - the song was written in contrast to Boy in Luv which talks about falling in love with someone quickly vs. Boy with Luv which is about being in love with someone because you like all the little details about them)
- *The Truth Untold* (played during the VCR, it’s a song from the Love Yourself series and inspired by a poem (?) about a guy who fell in love with a girl that used to visit his flower garden each day. He was afraid to reveal himself to her though because he was afraid of being rejected because he didn’t look beautiful. When he finally grew the strength to approach her, she didn’t visit that day. He later learned that she had passed away)
- *Microkosmos* (a song from MoTS: Persona, the word is Greek in origin meaning ‘little world’. The song talks about how each one of us are all little lights/ stars in the sky (with our own little stories) and that together we make up a larger universe)
Then there’s the whole *Dionysus* subsection performance.
‘Dionysus’ is another song from MoTS: Persona, inspired by the Greek God himself. The song references the Greek God of wine, theater and pleasure, and includes meaningful wordplay between the two similar sounding Korean words for ‘alcohol’ and ‘art’. The song represents how alcohol & art can both be intoxicating, but also so invigorating. A great song about their experience with their profession and all the challenges that comes with it, yet them still being thirsty to do more. A lot of the stage’s set was designed to make it look like a huge feast/party.
Before the main performance of Dionysus, the audience is treated to solo performances from each member - each one representing an Greek god. After each member’s song ends, a little light appears to form a constellation. This is shape is a real constellation known as the ‘Corona Borealis’ (Latin for Northern Crown) and represents the crown that Dionysus’s wife was gifted and wore for their wedding.
Individual stages with member name, title of song playing, & god they represent:
- V/Tae (No More Dream) is Apollo - god of art, music, poetry, sun, and medicine, seen dancing under the arch surrounded by the acrobats above
- Jin (Danger) is Ares - god of war/battle, arriving on the Trojan Horse commanding his ‘army’ behind him
- Jimin (I Need U) is Artemis - goddess of the hunt, animals and purity, performing a graceful contemporary dance
- Suga/Yoongi (Fire) is Hephaestus - god of fire, delivering his famous ‘bultaoreune’ line from the song
- Jungkook (Save Me) is Poseidon - god of the sea, water and horses, seen dancing in water
- J-hope/hobi (Fake Love) is Zeus - god of the sky, dancing and commanding the laser lights
- RM/Namjoon enters the stage while intro to the song ‘Dionysus’ begins playing. He grabs the *thyrsus* (Dionysus’s staff), which is an object also referenced during RMs verse in the song.
As you experienced, BTS ends their performance with a huge banger. The choreography for Dionysus is insane, and they used to OPEN their concerts with it up during the last world tour. It’s a very draining choreo, probably rivaled by the one for ON (gotta check out ON Kinetic Manifesto MV, you won’t regret it).
The interesting twist to this live performance of Dionysus (on top of EVERYTHING else they just did) is that right after Suga’s verse, the members do an entire break dance, while a dub-step version of the song ‘N.O.’ is playing. N.O is the title track from their second album, ‘ORUL8T2?‘ (read as ‘oh are you late too?’), and addresses mental health and pressure created by the competitive school education system in Korea).
I’ve realized that I got carried away a little (re: A LOT). But it just shows just how much is happening behind the scenes in BTS’s performances. It’ll be interesting for you to re-experience 2019 MMA later down the road, once you’ve immersed yourself more into their discography.
To quote Jimin (from a Buzzfeed interview with puppies): ‘Hey Alexa, you nice! Keep going!’

Yes, Jungkook is known for his stable voice even when dancing. All of them are great performers. The cracks on their voice are living proof that they sing LIVE. (You hear that little crack on Jimin's and V's voice during Boy With Luv? They sing live. Shout out to all the fellas who said that they are lipsyncing.😂) I salute them for their hardwork👏👏👏

For jungkook you said he was a heartthrob which is exactly what he is 😍 , also he is the MAIN VOCALIST of BTS hence his vocals are the most stable and powerful , he's the centre also so his charms really pull u towards him.
And jimin is just sooooo alluring, that I need u solo performance is so magical he's literally an angel , the best dancer in the industry such a beautiful dancer, he's the main dancer for a reason and his vocals are INSANEEEEE .

I was kinda like u lmao I remember when I was just discovering them I was obsessed with Jimin. With jk of course I loved him but he wasn’t on my radar but then I got to paying attention to him and omg he has been my bias ever since (2 years). His personality is so fun I love him. The voice V did calls "growls" he used to growl a lot back in the days , he's the most versatile vocalist among the guys , in one performance you can hear 6 different types of vocals from him or even more and he's stable too

The fact that a single person can command that whole stage is exceptional! They’re all like that, and that’s just amazing 💜
Honestly though, I don’t really like their war of hormone and boy in luv MVs. They have apologized since then, and I love them for that and their growth. RM and Suga also talked about it. I just think it’s incredible, where most people double down rather than apologize.
This was I've been waiting. As you can see, the stage set up, their vocals, their dancing, as well as their stage presence is a whole new level when it comes to award shows. Their turning every award show as their concerts. The stamina they have is what I'm very amused the fact that they are performing live.
I hope you could react to their other award show performances. They are very worth of your time.
btw in the room where RM is performing in, they have the titles of their old songs on the walls, thought it was a cool detail you should know about :). and all of the members have their own solo songs but the rap line, RM, Jhope and Suga have mixtapes as well as solo songs.

This performance is definitely epic, I don't know how many times I've watched it I'm still blown away by their performance its like I'm watching it for the first time over and over again. Their 2018 MMA performance is just as good.

Welcome to being bias wrecked. Also, I love how when BTS performs at an award show, it becomes a BTS concert. I mean, did you see all the ARMY Bombs in the crowd? And it was in a Stadium for an *AWARD SHOW.* South Korean, and Asian Award shows in General just do it differently. In America, our stages are small and non eventful in comparison.
Hmmm maybe because jungkook is the centre and tends to be seen so you're getting wrecked by him haha also he is sooo cute too🥲🤌. jungkook always give his 200% when the performed especialy the live one. So many people like his powerfulness but the member especially jhope tends to scold him a lot because he often too excited and wanting to give army his best while not thinking about himself. (Jk also pretty often faint because of that)

Jimin who was already my bias ,bias wrecked me at the concert. I wasn’t expecting him to be so beautiful. He has been my bias but not for his looks. Now im a certified simp. Jhope and RM have been coming for me too though. After a while you just give up. Im now ot7 and jimin is jimin.

when I saw this peformance for the first time in the intro all I was thinking was whose bright idea was it to give Namjoon the lighter? they really chanced it, he could have burned himself or the whole place down in no particular order... but i liked the concept he was the only one awake so he performed a solo as the entry song... and I loved how each member got to do thier own performance solo which at this point for an awards performance they had not done before so that was cool and each performance was their own styles which was cool to see!
