    That was excellent. But for some reason, Rhindle seemed to be having an 'off' day and the other two barely pursued you at all! (I know Yorgle has Gold Key phobia.) You grabbed that bat perfectly. If I ever completed Level 3, it was rare...

      If you go quick enough through rooms, you can lose the dragons. When you're gone, they randomly head off in a straight line from 0-360 degrees. I went through two rooms in the maze and was able to shake them :) I've been shaking these dragons since I was 5 years old :)

      Level 3 is usually easier than Level 2. Most of the time you don't even need to go in the white castle.

    When I played this as a kid, there was an expectation you had to kill all the dragons, which artificially cranked up the difficulty. This game was ahead of its time with what is a “victory state”. “Winning” wasn’t domination, but just satisfying the conditions of the game. You really didn’t see a body count =/= win condition again until NES Metal Gear.

      Atari 2600 games were all about the points and "flipping" the score. It's all the kids at the schools I went to that gamed back in the day talked about.
      You being snarky about it doesn't change the zeitgeist.

    After I got bored with it, I used to challenge myself by completing the game with every single item inside the Gold Castle, including all three dragons (dead), the bat and the secret dot (which I would embed in a wall so it was visible). The flashing from having so many sprites in the room at once was horrible.

    Level 3 has the same layout as Level 2, except the items are randomly placed. So, Level 3 can actually be easier than Level 2 or it can be unbeatable if the bat drops the any of the keys inside the castle of the same color. 🤔

    • @jsrodman
      @jsrodman Před 4 měsíci

      The bat cannot enter locked castles ( nor will it usually enter carries even if open) so that is a very remote concern. There are of course many ways to screw up like dropping items across screen boundaries. You can even arrange to put a key into a locked castle yourself without a bat if you work at it.

      @@zombathinlostleghackercat5233 Funny before I started to play retro games on my raspberry pi, the last time I probably played adventure for the 2600 was in 1986, we got a Nintendo nes in the house for Christmas. I remembered there being the 3 dragons. Red, yellow and green. My friends and I would call them ketchup mustard and relish, respectively. I'm curious as to what color you thought the other dragons were.

    Can you do this on actual hardware with the game? I think it's a good run, but Original hardware and game is better for a speed run as opposed to an emulator

    • @scottbertrand98
      @scottbertrand98 Před 5 lety +2

      I don’t think original hardware matters too much for 2600 games. You can run most 2600 games perfectly fine on a rom chip attached to a potato lol. But I will agree nothing beats the feeling of playing on original hardware.

    • @Gromulan
      @Gromulan  Před 5 lety +4

      I have original hardware that I used in another recording. Check my other videos. I like to think of that one as the fastest run with all 3 dragons dead.

    • @jyutzler
      @jyutzler Před 4 lety +6

      The problem is that in game 3 the layout is random. The poster got an unbelievably favorable layout and got doubly lucky with the bat. For the chalice to be in the middle of the first room of the black castle catacombs like that, both the bat and the bridge would have had to start the game in the black castle. The bat would then have to grab the chalice first then trade it with the bridge. And of course grabbing the bat just as it grabs the chalice is lucky too.
      A run under a minute is plausible, but none of this is repeatable.

    • @marcellachine5718
      @marcellachine5718 Před 2 lety

      What are you talking about? All speed runs of older games are done on emulators.

      @jackiebrown6845 Před rokem +1

      Ever get the game where both the chalice and the bridge are both in the one room in the white castle that is inaccessible without the bridge? The only thing that'll help you in that game is the bat!
