@@Sheila02181, Yes, both Elizabeth and Margaret were apparently born by artificial insemination, if this thwarted Elizabeth's line to the Throne, then The Crown would have gone to Henry, Duke of Gloucester, Williams father who died in 1974.
Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester would be King today and his descent through his mother, Princess Alice, would have brought Lord Monmouth's blood line back into its rightful place after Richard Scott, the tenth Duke of Buccleuch.
Had Catholic James ll not taken Protestant Lord Monmouth's head off, he would most likely have succeeded becoming King. He always did believe his father King Charles ll did marry his mother, Lucy Walters.

If you host the Monarch , you already expect that, HOWEVER the Monarch does her best to sit back on such occasions. H.M. is acutely aware of the status that surrounds her in her every day of life. Of course The Queen is the center of attention. Since Edward is a descendant of King George II, they needed the Queen’s consent to get married, pursuant to the Royal Marriages Act of 1772, as then in effect. They are still married to each other. They had four children: George (born 1962), Helen (born 1964), Nicholas (born 1970), and Patrick (stillborn 1977).
Katharine converted to Roman Catholicism in 1994. This did not affect Edward’s place in the succession to the throne, because she was not Catholic when he married her. Her son, Nicholas, also converted to the Popish religion, so he is excluded from the succession.
The heir apparent to the title of Duke of Kent is George. In 1988, he married a Catholic and thereby forfeited his place in the succession. His place was restored in 2015, when the Act of Settlement of 1701 was amended. His children, Edward and Marina, are papists, and they are barred from inheriting the Crown.

Both were Protestant when they married. Otherwise, under the rules at that time, the Duke would have forfeited his place of the succession (as Prince Michael did).
