    Best tailored collar tutorial ever, very clear and concise! I would LOVE to see more hand stitching videos with different stitches and techniques for certain applications. You are an amazing and talented young sewer, keep on creating these beautiful designs!

    I tried this on a simple rectangle, first time padstitching, i thought i goofed it but when i wrapped it around my neck i was impressed at how it just falls into place !
    I kinda set myself up for failure by using very lightweight materials for the sake of experimenting but I’m really happy, because damn it worked out !

    Your video was really helpful in giving me a refresher in tailoring collars, since I’m a little bit out of practice and just recently got back into tailoring. Thank you for that 💜
    Actually during my research in tailoring techniques, I’ve seen some tailors do this thing, where they don’t draft the collar piece and instead use a rectangle cut on the bias, pad stitch a portion of it and press it like any other collar and when cut the excess off after they’ve attached it to the foreparts. It’s was a really interesting system and I thought I would share it with you, and let you know about it.
    Anyways, salutations.

    This is so helpful, but I do have a couple of questions. Are you using the same linen thread to do the actual padstitching or was that just for the roll line? And do you then just attach the upper collar as usual? I'm remaking a cheap felt coat I bought with a lovely Italian wool, so I'm devouring all the tailoring tricks I can. Should the upper collar also be cut on the bias? Thanks so much for your work.

    • @Ora_Lin
      @Ora_Lin  Před rokem +4

      Hi Cheryl!
      1. Nope, I use a normal weight thread for the pad stitching.
      2. There are a few different methods of attaching the upper collar, if you mean by sewing around the under collar and upper collar by machine you can absolutely do that. I would recommend pinning the two collars together making sure there is a little more ease in the upper collar, and then after sewing right sides together and trimming the corners, the seam allowance can be catch stitches to the under collar side which is (essentially the couture method of understitching) before the collar is turned right side out.
      There are other methods of attaching the upper collar like the one in my matrix coat video at 9:54 or this video czcams.com/video/Pyzto5nWySE/video.html at 30:50.
      3. The upper collar is usually cut on the cross grain, depending on how shapable the fabric the upper collar may need to be cut as two pieces with a seam along the roll line to follow the 3D shape of the under collar.
      Hope that helps!

    Hi,I would like to ask, what kind of thread and what strength are you using for padstitching? and is there some special recommended needle? I have read in some articles that silk thread is the best, but I am not sure if there is some specific like ex. 0.2mm? or completely different type of thread

  • @MuhammadRiyadMuhsinin-fg1gl

    What name thread for padding?

  • @LeeDaiYing

    Could I pick your brain, why would one need to press more curve in for a shoulder that is less sloped? I would love to understand.
