    i powdercoated my spacer gloss black along with all the covers for the engine and trans. Im doing Heritage floorboards so instead of doing the plug for the shifter i got a Heritage gloss black primary cover. tapped the inner primary cover shifter hole for a 3/8npt pipe plug.

    Thanks for sharing my old 81 fxs had a rear chain oil drip line. We couldn’t wait to get the belt drive bikes.

    Why on Earth would harley engineers put the stator (an electrical part which hates heat) buried inside underneath the hottest part of the engine? Other brands don't do that. Great video! Very informative! This conversion was a lot easier on my sporster, as the front Pulley is only covered by a Pulley cover. Always wondered why they buried it on the other models. I guess because a sportster doesn't have a gearbox, it's lubricated by the engine oil. I chose to cut my chain to where the axle was dead center in the dropouts. That way, you have room to slide the wheel forward and remove the chain from the rear sprocket if you ever need to remove the wheel. When the axle is all the way forward, you have to break the chain again to get the back wheel off. How are you liking the feel of a chain? I love it!

      That's a great point. I have no idea why they put the stator there. Harley has been doing that since the shovel Head.

    Hey Dr. I really enjoy the tutorials, but it's the little things that are touched on. Looks like you need a third arm. Great video! See you in Daytona.

    • @DrHarley
      @DrHarley  Před rokem +1

      You're 100% correct. I could use a third arm and a forth. I defiantly can use someone to run the camera. If I did have someone to work the camera, I believe that the videos would be so much better.

    I usually scrub off the wax first (it will melt everywhere anyway), then lube can penetrate that much more. But thats me

      Thank you for that tip, As I have never done this before.. I did end up wiping off the wax.

    Yep, I replaced many a bicycle chain when I was a kid, find an old bike and fix it up to ride when I couldn't afford a new bike. I surely would not want to convert from a belt to chain on My Motorcycle, looks easy enough, but also looks like too much work. but in your case, I see the need for the chain drive. At least you are not trying to go from shaft drive to belt drive. That would really be something to see.

    • @DrHarley
      @DrHarley  Před rokem

      Yeah it was quite a bit of work, however it will be worth it as I will not be braking or ripping teeth off when ripping on that bike..

    I am thinking to covert chain drive on my 20 m8 softail low rider s. Most local dealers telling me that chain drive is not a good option to mod over belt drive i currently have from factory. Despite to all negative comments, i am willing to mod to chain drive. How do you like it so far since you converted to chain? More torque response n power to rear wheel? What tooth did you go with on this bike? I got introduced 24tooth on front n 33 tooth on rear?

    • @DrHarley
      @DrHarley  Před rokem

      Paul, I like the chain drive even though it's more maintenance. Cleaning and lubeing the chain every 500 miles. Also adjusting is as well. I kept the stock ratio for ease of comparison with all the mods I made abd make to the bike. As I am trying to get the most HP and TQ out of a naturally aspirated motor. The throttle response is much better because of less flex from the belt. However I also did a compensator delete as well. Same ratio there as well. I would not do it if I was making less than 150 hp and 150tq. I hope this is a help in your design

    • @paulson9616
      @paulson9616 Před rokem +1

      @Dr.Harley hey Dr., thank you for your input. My bike has stage 2 with cam n dynoed, but I seriously think it does not put out high power, as you mentioned. And for me, I am no mechanic to do conversion like you had on your bike, so I am solely relying on a local shop or the stealer to do the conversion if I am going with this mod. As far as chain adjusting n regular maintenance goes, I have to learn DIY as time goes.

    • @DrHarley
      @DrHarley  Před rokem +1

      At this point, you're not making the HP or TQ to require that upgrade. If you want to spend the money for the show then why not. However, if it was me, I would not until the bike required such an upgrade.
