- Do you remember that warm summer day in July of 2022 when IWC made a huge announcement celebrating its successor to one of the watch industry's most popular pilot watch lines, the Mark series? Not ringing a bell? I don't remember it either because IWC was basically radio silent when the new IWC Pilot's Watch Mark XX was released. One morning it just appeared on their website, to basically zero fanfare, and I sort of liked that. Let the product do the talking.

This guy is great at a week on the wrist.. he's up there with James, Ben and Cole for being the best at Hodinkee!
Hate to break it to you but Cole left Hodinkee for Watches of Espionage.
Go marry him then
Brandon had a great channel before Hodinkee, but much funnier. He did one video in a long afro and I almost choked.
💯
And hes new. Brandon had a thriving channel before the big H
Week on wrist with Brandon in it...its gotta be the best. He always delivers.
This guy's videos are great! Straightforward review with beautiful photography
Great video, Brandon. I have the blue dial on the way. Such an amazing piece.
On another note, can we all take a moment to appreciate the addition of Brandon to the Hodinkee team? With all the key departures in recent years, James and Brandon are the only reason I'm still here.
Pretty devastated though that Hodinkee Radio is done for now. I love TGN, but just simply want more watch content, specifically podcasts.
they announced that hodinkee radio is done?
@@Eyephere done for now. The weekly episodes went away. They did an episode with just Ben and that about it for a while now. They announced they were basically reevaluating it going forward. I think they are planning to do watches and wonders episode(s) when the time comes. I've listened to every episode for years, so I'm really missing it..
i bought this watch on the bracelet and an extra quick exchange rubber strap...it's amazing. I wear it all the time and it just feels right. Great heft, perfect size, simple and refined but noticably quality. I currently own a Rolex datejust, a nomos, omega and Grand seiko and this gets most of the wrist time...cant get enough of it.
What Color option did you choose?
@@RotbartCaptain black dial with an additional black rubber strap.
@@CZcamsComments where did you buy the rubber strap from?
@@DavidD-fj3vq iwc website directly. looks like the have textile available now too. may be buying one of those as well.
Why black over blue? Im undecided and ive just tried the blue@@CZcamsComments
I respect Brandon’s commitment to burgers. Keep ‘em coming Hodinkee!
What Californian can go a week on the wrist with out burgers and fries? ❤In and Out .urge.
Love Brandon, been following him since before the hodinkee glow up! ❤ wishing him all the best!
The bracelet is freaking fantastic. I have a boatload of watches, and this engineer is incredible.
My IWC Pilot's Chronograph 41 (racing green dial/brown leather strap) was actually my second big purchase. First was the blue Omega SMP 300M. Both phenomenal brands and pieces!
Always love your videos. Thanks.
I bought the black dialled Mark XX the weekend before it’s release. I went into a IWC Boutique to buy a spitfire.
Anyway, whilst I was there, I purchased an additional 5 Easx straps along with a folding clasp- I got excited! This piece now can be a swimmer, climber, casual wear and formal on the leather.
Cool piece and a keeper.
Nice Video, thanks a lot! Just bought the XVIII just because of the black date window, which in my opinion makes the watch look so much better and coherant.
I picked up the blue Mark XX and absolutely loved it so much, I picked up the black dial as well. The previous few Mark versions wore too big with the extra-long L2L, but they solved it here. It fits amazingly well on my 6.75" wrist. The finishing is superb and I love the micro-adjustment button on the bracelet and the quick-change system. An all around GADA watch indeed.
Chef’s kiss for your location choice! 🤩
Thanks Hodinkee, for returning the "spec sheet"!!
one of the few HODINKEE videos I am eager to click on.
I enjoyed the commercial for In N Out…and the watch review, too.
Just hearing and seeing the first seconds I know who it is. Great footage and review as usual Brandon, have a nice weekend.
I bought one a month after it's release. Great watch for anyone who want's something discret, well built and affordable.
Great video, well produced! I like the Westchester, LAX, and In-n-Out Burger footage. Great watch too!
just purchased this, can't wait to wear it!
Great, no-frills review.Thanks!
Brandon's soundtracks always hit. Great video.
Mannn… the moment the first note of the intro played , my mind went… “it’s a Brandon video!!!!!”. Love this guys videos !
Brandon does a great job on these videos!
I wish IWC would just make a Mark model without a date window.
Wouldn’t that be a Big Pilot 43 mm ?
@@Uruguayanflyers smaller.
My man Brandon with another 🔥 video 👏
For some reason I now want „in-n-out“ more than I want the watch, but that’s probably because there’s plenty IWC in Germany, but no in-n-out 😅
Great week on the wrist, always looking forward to Brandon’s videos 😎
Good review like old times at Hodinkee
Mine in blue just arrived at the ad - very soon it will be my first luxury watch ❤
Arggghhhh, I loved the black hands!!! 😢
Nice, In 'N Out! Makes me want one for lunch now. Also, great watch. Though I do prefer the Spitfire.
U gotta love Brandon; if you can't fly you can at least bring your flieger to the airport and show some sympathy for your pilots watch! Why not; we bring our divers to the office and wash our hands don't we... But seriously, I'm certain that many of us consider this a great timepiece. I get good vibes from IWC's treatment of the Mark series. Not always with great fanfare, they do show respect and reverence for the design and in this latest series honors all the Marks before it with continued improvement of the breed (i.e., high contrast and legibile dial with relocated date window, welcome new bracelet with easy adjustment, five-day power reserve, increased water resistance, improved sizing, and a strength of design that is instantly recognized as a Mark.
So glad the brought back the four cardinal markings that is quintessential to the mark design
Great music!
I own a mark 18 and have looked at and tried on the new mark xx. I prefer my mark 18 but I think the xx is a better watch and I will probably buy it as well. Imo the mark xx is one of the best all round watches you can buy today.
I also own the 18 and it is my most worn at 4-5 days a week. The XX has better case dimensions and movement, but for me the polished hands/case, non-matching date wheel, and thicker crown threw me off.
@@MJ-we5if I sold my other watches, an omega and tudor as they weren't getting any wrist time since I got the mark 18. Agree, I prefer the matching date window and hands on the 18, suppose they had to make changes to the xx as it would look to similar to the 18 if they kept the black date window and hands.
I heard IWC let you trade & upgrade to newer watch, don't know anyone who did it yet but that'll be great If it's true
@@wqsnsr8 “trade and upgrade?” You mean screw you by buying your watch back at 1/2 of its value and selling you a new watch at full retail? Yea, of course. I’m sure they will do that
What timing I literally picked up a blue dial on bracelet Mark XX an hour before this dropped! It delivers on every front
Nice work! Though, you seem to have spent a week at the In N' Out by the airport in LA. You gotta get around more, my man!
I’m hoping for a new version of the pilot 36 at watches and wonders this year
With thaaat bracelet adjustment.
I feel like Tony Soprano looking at this guy wearing a hat indoors.
😂
That burger looks amazing…..oh and the watch ain’t mad either. I had the XVIII so the small changes are nice, but still not as inspiring. Having said that, if it ain’t broke- buy an In-N-Out burger 💪🏼
This guy is fantastic
It would have been perfect for me and the icing on the cake... if they just switched out the current crown for the big pilot crown which I adore.
2 seconds into the video and the audio already makes me realize it will be from Brandon... :)
I had not consider it, until this review. I will take another look, I would prefer to have 7 grand and get the Top Gun, but that is a different kettle of fish and this may replace my Omega 5510 Pro
I might think of buying one when they shorten lug to lug to 47mm and attach the strap like they are doing with Portugieser automatic models. This one has a long distance with the case.
I just wish they had kept the white text on black date window and black hands. That’s the only thing that’s holding me back from getting it. But the shorter lugs and huge power reserve is awesome.
Epic
Hi Brandon,
Could you compare this with Tissot T1164101104700 watch? I agree its insane to compare, however the dial, colour etc. is quite similar to IWC. Anyway, I have IWC Pilot look-a-like which is Swiss made too. Thanks
Does this have a free sprung silicone hairspring ?
Oh I love your ring ! Brand?
great video and presenter
We want a smaller version!!!
Brandon does such a good job. I watch his videos even when he's covering watches I don't care about.
This video makes me want to fly to California for In-N-Out Burger meal :)
Why, their food sucks almost as bad as California
IWC, slide the '9' and the date window 0.7 mm to the right, L2L 48mm height, then you have an almost perfect watch, at least a better proportion. Thanks.
7.25 is a decent size wrist. Should have no issues supporting a BP or the BP43
Omega, IWC... next one Breitling? These were my options for the first "luxury (one) watch". I chose the Aqua Terra in 38.5mm.
Big fan of Brandon's reviews and big fan of the Mark series!
For me, the biggest problem of this watch is actually nothing to do with the watch itself: it's its competitors.
This is a great watch, but when you look at its competitors it starts to look poor value. The Hamilton Khaki, for example, provides you with largely the same look, the same functionality (a larger power reserve in some cases, depending on which Khaki model), with a similarly rich military history behind it for a tenth of the price.
So if you really love the IWC, go for it. But when you put it the way I just did above, it's hard not to go for the alternatives.
Can we just keep Brandon as the only person doing WOTW?! They’re all captivating. Also, I see those Todd Snyder threads, my man
mark 19 actually an IWC pilot spitfire
4:42 Pulp Fiction vibes. Now I’m hungry.
I keep looking at this and the new Zenith Pilot
the pilot is away better watch. Set out to buy the xx until I saw the pilot in real life. It just pops and makes the xx a very boring watch.
@@rayprice9819 the Zenith Pilot is so nice. I’d love to see them both in person.
Bracelet on IWC is a big seller for me though
Anyone know the name of the songs playing in the background?
Great vid, what kinda accuracy are people getting on these mark xx’s?…In Seconds / day. Iwc doesn’t seem to advertise or publish any data on this
Getting the Mark 16. To me, its a more handsome and more interesting watch. After a full service, I'll be perfect. And half the price, which is a bonus
Finally got a chance to see this in person and was underwhelmed. Besides the screw down crown and fact that it is automatic, doesn’t really seem like much of a jump from my pre-powermatic khaki mechanical on a quality leather strap.
OMG an In-N-Out burger i would do anything to get one here in the EU
Why can't they lume all the dang numerals!? Almost perfect...
When the narration and production is way better than the watch
I had a mark 18, it’s an ok watch but it’s a bit drab. Very disappointed they didn’t fully fix the inset date with the Mark 20, you would think IWC could afford to develop an appropriately sized date wheel. Longines spirt is a better watch at a cheaper price too.
😂
Agree. Big IWC fan, but I can’t stop looking at at walleyed date window. Completely messes with the balance of the dial.
If only they'd lume all the indices it would be a very well done do-it-all explorer I type watch.
Hmmmm wondering about big date functionality to the mark models ...
The watch is great, but mostly I’m impressed that you hit In & Out twice in 6 min.
why didnt they use blued hands? It's still very legible with the lume coating. Thats my only nitpick.
Next up, Breguet Type XXI!
I recently changed my Mark XVIII to a Mark XX and have had nothing but issues with it. The easy xchange isn’t very secure and very fiddly for the bracelet. Worst is the movement that jumps when pulling or pushing the crown out and back in. Couldn’t set it accurately. Had to go back to the AD twice. Lost all faith in the watch now. Would recommend the more robust Mark XVIII.
I got the spitfire. It's the perfect watch. For me at least.
why are all these brands skipping on the deployant clasps on the leather straps, I used to want the leather for that
Love IWC, I just wish their watches were more affordable
Get a Stowa instead. Just as much heritage for 1/4 of the price (also an original WWII watch maker) and identical flieger designs.
@@cyberwarfare9118 cant compare these two quality wise
Hamilton and Longines are much more affordable options for someone looking for their first luxury watch purchase. And both companies make fantastic pilot watches.
@@whereRbearsTeeth true but neither is iwc
@@Ferien7savage.😅
Can the mark XX be considered a field watch?
Was it coincidence that In n Out at 10:10am? Or was it a marketing decision to set it for that shot. hmmmm :)
Forget the airport. An IWC belongs at an In-N-Out. That's where you'll have to eat if you buy one of these.
Those fries were definitely cold after filming.
I really wished that IWC offered a NO DATE version of these watches...
IWC dropped the balllll on the Lume
Week on a wrist or Burgers ‘n Watches?
Can hodinkee give us female version of week on the wrist
??
White dial is king
There is no white dial mark xx….
@@whereRbearsTeeth thanks captain obvious!
There are plenty of white dial IWC pilots.
Ex. mark xviii, mark xv, Big date, chronograph exc….
There is a white dial mark xx now? Have you checked it out?
@@alexvukadinovic6926 indeed! My current favorite IWC
Such a pity the date window isn’t color matched to the dial. The white date window really takes away from the harmony of the piece.
Get a Stowa instead. Just as much heritage, similar build quality, identical designs. 1/4 of the price.
I also don't know any actual pilot that wears an IWC. Most that I know either wear Seiko Flightmasters, Citizen Nighthawks, Casio A158/F91W and Breitling Navitimers.
Video would be in my opinion much better if it Shows the watch with bracelet and all the dial versions. Especially boutique only green
🙄
Another week on the wrist, another wrist shot during consuming burgers.
I like Brandon and this video overall, but am I the only one who is slightly annoyed that he frames this only as an "entry level" or "first big watch" purchase? I am by no means new to watch collecting and still very interested in this piece, for a variety of reasons. Why do we have to categorize things in this way? Anyway, keep up the great content regardless!
Calm down snowflake.
@@whereRbearsTeeth Oh, you’re right. What would I ever do without your insightful direction 😘
Thats Bourdains fav innout. I don't like the white date window...that bothers me .. they should have went black with letter it's those little details that matter. My Sinn 458 is the perfect pilot watch. I pant an IWC bit the design and movement need to be perfect.. I like the older ones
Give me a California dial on it and my money will leave my account so fast it will scream "family!" And fistfight the Rock just for fun.
No the spitfire misses all the design cues of the mark XII
Why is this guy so watchable? See what I did there.
It has a screw down crown and is a proper sports watch.
