Silva was the one who made me fall in love with MMA and I kinda resented Weidman for beating Silva (1st fight was definitely Silva's own fault). It made it especially sad knowing how much it fucked up Uriah when he beat Silva. Uriah could be 0-50 and I'd still respect him as a martial artist because of how much genuine respect and passion he shows to his opponents. He handled the Weidman situation very well at the moment, but I feel like his career could be in genuine jeopardy because of how it affected him mentally. Uriah straight up thought he paralyzed a dude when he hit Adam Cella with that spinning hook kick. I feel fucking awful for literally everyone involved in the entire debacle.

      Forest was the fighter that got me into MMA, he was my first favorite. He wasn't the best fighter, but he had a great attitude and serious grit, just like Rocky Balboa. If you watch their fight, Forest is of course getting annihilated by an up-and-coming Silva. The UFC world didn't really know how good Silva was yet. At the end of the fight, Forest goes down for the umpteenth time, and the ref is jumping in to stop it. Forest doesn't know that yet, and if you look closely, you can see him tapping. I've never seen any fighter tap from strikes, and to see Forest, a fighter known for his perseverance and grit, was legit heartbreaking.

      @@toddirvine5886 - Forrest tapped to strikes several times, in fact he had tapped to strikes right before fighting Anderson, when he lost to Rashad Evans.
      He would later also possibly tap to strikes in his rematch with Shogun, that one is a bit more controversial since it's a bit unclear what's happening, but depending on the angles it really does look like he's tapping out.

    one of the craziest events for me has gotta be when Krazy Horse KO'd Wanderlie Silva in the warmup area before Silva's fight in 2005 against Arona in Pride. Krazy Horse had just submitted another fighter, gets in a fight with the whole chute box team, gets put to sleep in a fucking triangle, wakes up, gets angry and then KO's the Pride GOAT Axe Murderer Silva (who'd never been KO'd before i think). I thought that brawl at UFC229 was going to be the beginning of the end of MMA. I think the crowd showed good restraint that night because that natural instinct to throw hands is strong in those circumstances, even to the most conservative of men.

    • @asimpson164
      @asimpson164 Před 2 lety

      That was the night I lost my faith in the legitimacy of sport within the UFC. The end of a fight is when the winner is declared and the referee raises their hand, officially. That had not happened yet when Khabib started attacking people outside the octagon. Attacking someone outside of the octagon during a fight is grounds for a disqualification. It is the same as if Buffer was reading the results of the fight and they just sucker punch the loser or go attack their coaches. Khabib should not have been champion after that. That's what the rules say at least. Conor would have been completely insufferable as champion after that so maybe giving Khabib a pass was the lesser of two evils.
      Khabib never paid his NSAC fines or the fines of his teammates who jumped into the octagon and attack Conor. This is one of the reasons Khabib probably retired. The UFC was only able to have event in Las Vegas at The Apex and Abu Dhabi Yas Island once a year. Can't get a NSAC fighting license if you have outstanding fines so the only place Khabib could have fought was Fight Island once a year or so.
