In Kerala, India, we grow our garden this way only, with coconut trees as the base integrating mango tree, jackfruit trees, banana, tapioca, elephant yam, chilli and what not. We didn’t knew, people outside India calls it agroforestry and celebrate this greatly.
☺️😆😅 hello bro..i am from Bangladesh & in our country its a common familiar & ancient method of growing daily necessary vege's & fruit year around & in 2022 the update western culture is coming back to our own Indian Subcontinent ancient method 😅😆☺️
Same in Indonesia.. Is Common system in Tropics 😂..., but we must appreciate them👍
Permaculture was largely designed from southeast Asian traditional practices.
That coconut tree from the beginning might be the most efficient coconut tree I’ve ever seen

In our country it is ancient method of growing all trees & vegetable using soils own power..

Like your suggestions and I think I did plan at least in my head, but not so much on paper. I find it is better to gradually grow the garden and to go with the flow. Yes think about what you want from the garden, whether you are a clean (OCD) type or a more natural (messy) Gardener (I am the latter) and then just start with one corner of the garden and expand.
I put all my Citrus trees in at first, mainly because I bought them over the years and carried them from place to place in pots. One Cumquat is 20 years old. :) So yes maybe there was a plan for a long time.

Hey there this is very helpful! I’m going to be starting a food forest in upstate NY this spring with climax trees of nuts and stone fruits as the orchard. The 2 acres is covered in grasses and some other shrubs. Can I ask? Should I just mulch the whole ground and begin sowing the seeds of the variety’s I’m looking to grow? It’s this first step that I’m unsure of right now. Thank you 🙏
