    Experience the sights and sounds of Maine's largest city Portland. Located just off Interstate 95 - Maine's Turnpike the beautiful city hugs the coast of the Atlantic Ocean and brings all the charm of small, ocean side city and served as Maine's first capital city before the it was moved to Augusta. Portland has had its issues with fires - results of the war with Britain and poor wooden structures the city of Portland has burned down 4 times, as you drive the streets many of the buildings have been built with classic brick - the cities attempt to avoid another rebuild.
    To this day Portland serves the state of Maine as a fishing, arts, and commercial hub offering everything you can find in the larger northeast cities. Home of some of the greatest seafood on the east coast, Portland is also home to the Portland Sea Dogs - the AA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox in addition to the Boston Celtics training team.
    A city rich in history through the British colonization, Maine's establishing statehood from Massachusetts to the famous Portland Head Lighthouse - Maine's oldest and most iconic lighthouse.

    We've driven on Commercial Street many times to go shopping downtown and to eat at DiMillo's.

    Why are most buildings red?

    • @egbio6508
      @egbio6508 Před 11 měsíci

      maybe because the brick is red?

    • @MileMarker4k
      @MileMarker4k  Před 11 měsíci

      The buildings are almost all brick. The city has had multiple fires so they used brick after the last one to keep it from burning again

      @@MileMarker4k Correct. Many of those buildings are over 100 years old. Typical of the "Old Port" region, down by the waterfront.
      I am local here, and recognized every bit of it. Nicely done. Thanks.
