  • This is another video of a ride with the Hereford Section of the Veteran-Cycle Club. This has again been filmed by a helmet mounted GoPro camera when riding a high wheeler. This is a new ride with many possible variations but originally planned for 20 Roman miles and using Roman roads, hence Craven Arms XX. The day was fine and 10 riders set off crossing the A49 onto the Clun road and then left onto the Roman Road. There we were confronted by an unusual sight, there were men repairing a pothole - extraordinary! They were blocking the narrow lane at Sally Wood which particularly inconvenienced Eve who was driving the sweeper van but the riders managed to squeeze past. We carried on along the Roman Road until turning right for Clungunford, where we turned north eventually reaching Wistanstow. The village famous for the fine ale of Woods Brewery - which now appears to be sadly closed..it was such a good pint. As usual I had a bit of climbing on this ride and we had a good slog up onto Wenlock Edge and on to a very scenic lane above Hope Dale. Three E-bike guests who had been accompanying us then peeled off to Flounders’ Folly, an 80 foot tower built on Callow Hill in 1838. We headed back towards Craven Arms with a breath relieving break at Westhope to view the secluded Green Burial Ground. In order to avoid another hill that might have tortured Mike on his 50 inch Ordinary he cut across to the A49 at Strefford and dashed back down this fast level road to the Stokesay Arms for a really refreshing reward of a large pint of Sharps Session Ale. We rejoined him there and found that Phillipa Wheeler had also joined us for a meal. She had specially brought along her Royal Enfield celebrating the 70th Anniversary of her ownership.
