Courney is the best artist I've seen in my life time. She is a quadruple threat. Singer, Dancer, Song Writer, Actor. Her range, both vocally and genre is broad. Humble, shy and very personable, but totally owns the stage when the music starts. Beautiful and charismatic, but with a heart of gold. No one can sing like her, but she can sing like those before her, and others, and create her own sound. There is none other like her, and there will be none that can compare. I truly hope that she dominates the charts soon, she truly deserves it..

That little blurb was when she gave a shocking performance on America's got talent at the age of 13. She is now 19 on this video. I really appreciate your commentary. It was very knowledgeable and very fair. Courtney has a great following because she is so tremendously talented. This is her fourth video of her own work. If you are interested, there is an increasing library of her excellent work. Her stage performances on AGT received the most original attention. Her dancing on "Monsters" gave you a glimpse of those performances.

I got to say, this was one of few reactions that I spent as much time watching and wanting to see what you were going to say and do next while pausing and talking music as I normally would be focus on Courtney. She such a star. I'll be going back to watch this one a bunch of time. Great fun reaction from someone who knows his musical talents of what others do. Hope you continue with Courtney. She's worth watching. Definitely belongs on a stage touring. She's a stage beast who can truly sing any style she wants. Keeps getting better and surprising those who know her.

@@Beldvlmnt I had fun listening to all your observations of what she can do. So keep em coming. I used to spend a lot of time recording music with friends and also online on a Roland site years back, so I'm a music nerd and love talking music especially with people who know. Btw, Courtney's producer/co-writer is Kevin Bowe. He's been around the block producing and writing for lots of huge legends like Springsteen, Etta James, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Johnny Lang and quite a few others. Oh yeah, and the point you made about how Courtney might be manipulating the mic is exactly what she does when sing quite a bit. I mean moving the mic further away or back and forth for different vocal effects.
I've been looking for that link you mentioned of your friends song "Choice" but i can't find it yet. Can you point me to it? I caught you singing and playing guitar and I guess your band on an intro to another video of yours I was watching and now I'm curious. Thx

  • @bertpainter8385
    @bertpainter8385 Před 7 měsíci +5

You mentioned Courtney using "Scoops", something in my day we called bends. What's so unique to Courtney's vocals in today's singers, is that she uses her vocal cords like she's playing rock/blues licks of a guitar, sax, etc. She manipulates her vocals to get effect patches like a guitar player uses a pedal. Following her from a youngster, she pretty much learned all the techniques she uses within a years time of finding rock/blues music. That's pretty amazing to have mastered this style so quickly. I remember growing up and having friends trying to work on those voice manipulations and trying to find a rock vocal coach to learn them. It took years just to kind of get there. And we grew up with rock. She was mostly a ballad and sort of pop singer prior to finding rock/blues/R&B type music. She latched on and found all the best old school vocalists and very quickly picked and chose the sounds she like from all of them. Talking James Brown, Mick Jagger, Little Richard, Janis Joplin etc etc.
It's obvious we all enjoyed your reaction to Courtney and would love more. Please!!

Hi. Great reaction. So cool that you came across Courtney's music. She is amazing. You would have no way of knowing after just one song, but she is truly a generational level talent. Unbelievable vocal power, control and range. You just heard what a killer rock voice she has and when she is on stage, she dominates a stage like no other. However, her vocal versatility is astounding. Courtney is equally as great across so many genres besides rock. R&B, Funk, Soul, Ballads and more. The most incredible thing is, whatever the genre, there is never a drop off to the incredible quality of her music. Virtually all artists, even the biggest, have their comfort zone. Inside that zone, they are great, but take them outside that zone, and not so much. We've yet to see where Courtney's comfort zone ends, because she can sing virtually anything exquisitely. To hear one of her ballads is to truly appreciate what a gorgeous voice she has,
Courtney first rose to worldwide fame when she appeared on America's Got Talent (AGT) in 2018 when she was 13. Her audition went viral and now has over 1 billion overall on line views. Courtney herself is closing in on 3 billion views. She has die-hard fans from virtually every country in the world. While on AGT, Courtney sang exclusively classic rock from the 60's and 70's by the likes of James Brown, Tina Turner and Janis Joplin. Courtney was so great on AGT that she was almost immediately signed to a record deal at Syco/Arista records (Sony Music). After AGT, those that knew her from only there, viewed her as this fabulous stage dominating rocker, which she surely is. But, she is so, so much more. As I mentioned above, her range is astounding. So in 2019, she released an EP called the 'Cover Sessions' where she took some of the biggest recent hits across different genres, and re-invented them into her vision of the way they could have been sung. They were all sensational. The purpose was to highlight both her incredible vocal versatility and her off the charts creativity. All four of the 'Cover Session' songs are available on her CZcams channel.
That Courtney is not already a household name is mostly a matter of bad luck regarding timing. Of course, there was the pandemic, which delayed her album release for over two years. However, there was more. She was slated to be the youngest performer at the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, but that was ultimately cancelled due to logistic and financial reasons. Then her label was sold, which caused more chaos. Then there was the fact that for years, her label kept trying to turn her into something she said she never wanted to be. Another pop princess. Does that incredible rock voice you just heard belong limited to pop songs? Fortunately, Courtney stood her ground and, as soon as she could, at the beginning of this year, she left her label and went independent,
Courtney has a huge song library that she hasn't been able to release because of the reasons described above, but she has shared many of them, in whole or in part with fans, and they are all sensational. She is such a powerhouse as a songwriter. Since she has gone independent this year, she has already released four mind blowing originals. Her first three originals were non-rock. They were 'Breakable', a gorgeous gritty ballad, 'That Girl Don't Live Here', an amazing uptempo jazzy number with a touch of almost 1940's Swing and 'Call Me Back', which will rip your heart out every time you hear it. All are available on her CZcams channel. 'Monsters' was her first step back into her rock persona. When Courtney is in control of her own destiny, amazing things happen. Now that she's independent, she has said to expect a release every month or two. So buckle up. It's going to be an incredible ride. If you're reacting to more Courtney, you've got me as a subscriber. I can't wait to hear you react to more of Courtney's music.

Excellent reaction to the most unique rising star out there; you give a more knowledgeable take on Courtney's vocal gymnastics than most. Although her trolls have diminished, there occasionally were those that said she couldn't sing, would just scream off-key. Sad how autotune and copycat song styles have homogenized contemporary music, leaving unappreciated a rare original and passionate performer like Courtney. More and more people are coming around to Courtney, though. She has a GoFundMe that needs just a few more donations to reach her goal of coming to America to finish her album.

@@Beldvlmnt Most times I'd agree. Unfortunately for Courtney, even though she did not win that AGT contract, Simon Cowell signed her right after that season. Although not many knew it at the time, that contract she sign strapped her in handcuffs of her label Sony/Arista/ and maybe another. Took her 4 years to get free to do this song and 3 others her way starting in January of this year with more originals to come. Next one looks to be Christmas rocker on the 24th of November. Can't wait for that one.

This is a LONG story. Sorry. As a consumer, rather than a producer, of music, I must say, the look inside the music industry I've gotten in past year or so has been both mindblowing and eye-opening. Ms. Courtney Hadwin is a case in point because of the number of oddities about what HAS and what HAS NOT happened in her career. And make no mistake about it, she may 'only' be 19 (July) now, but this IS her career. She started singing A LOT at about 5 years old, according to her dad when interviewed. Typical girl next door in a blue-collar town in the North of England. Except she found her GRANDPARENTS' music interesting. Being a GenZ kid, she started checking out performances by greats from the 1950's, 60's, 70's, and probably 80's too, to at least some extent. Her hero was Ms. Tina Turner, but she STUDIED not only Ms. Tina, but also James Brown, Janice Joplin, Otis Redding, Etta James, Mick Jagger,...when interviewed she was quoted saying it was a pretty long list. Look at her choices of covers she's performed. Wikipedia entry for Ms. Courtney has the gory details, conveniently linked in most cases to each song's original entry. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Courtney_Hadwin
She started with local vocal talent competitions, moving up quickly at a young age to national competitions, especially season 1 of The Voice Kids UK. She was one of six finalists, but not the one chosen to win by the viewers of that TV show. It was in a relatively small auditorium/soundstage venue, with a quite small audience including many friends and family of contestants, so a lot had been done to make it as non-threatening as possible for the contestants, many of whom were quite young. Ms. Courtney was 12 when she performed her blind audition of Ms. Tina Turner's "Nutbush City Limits" in first half of 2017. You have to understand, her idols do NOT sing standing like a statue on a stage at a mic. Tina Turner?! James Brown?! Janice Joplin?! NOT BLOODY LIKELY! Music MOVES this youngster. She needs, IMHO, a BIG STAGE, and a HUGE AUDIENCE to soak up all that freakin' ENERGY!!
As for the industry, she went on to AGT in America, since THEY (we) ought to really appreciate the unique kinds of music her 'virtual mentors' from CZcams performed. Her audition at 13 went VIRAL. She got Golden Buzzer. By the time her SECOND performance on AGT happened, her audition video had over 200Million views online! She was DROPPED from the show in 6th place, with the viewing public (and apparently many bots) voting for others, with everyone ASSUMING she was the leader and SAFE no matter what. That was in fall 2018. She was invited to perform onstage in Vegas with the band The Struts. By December 2018, Simon Cowell's SYCO Music co-signed her with Arista.
She surfaced one more time, on 14 January 2019 on Simon's AGT: The Champions show's second episode. She got a standing ovation from crowd and judges when she walked out on stage to almost everyone's surprise. She interacted with Simon briefly, then she turned around, prepped on stage while some fans were quickly ushered into a small 'moshe pit' like area just in front of the stage, then started her performance. By the time it was done, she got a 2nd standing ovation from the audience and all 4 judges. As the final judge, Howie Mandel, asked her what that song was as he didn't recognize it, she told all that it was an original. Thus, her 3rd standing ovation by the crowd! And before she performed again, SHE GOT DROPPED! AGAIN!
Turns out, she'd been put on the slate as youngest performer with a set scheduled on the BIG STAGE at Woodstock 50 to be held on anniversary weekend in August 2019. Except it was CANCELED. The spectre of Woodstock '99 was just too strong, and the organizers and financiers far too weak to make it work. Then the pandemic hit. We did get one EP from Ms. Courtney's labels, with 4 cover songs, reworked to be sung HER WAY, with that rocky bluesy unique sound she's developed. These live cover sessions, video captured live in what appears to be a large-ish studio storeroom for amps and the likes, showcased her vocal skills and versatility quite well. At the end of the fourth cover song, "Old Town Road" our young Ms. Courtney dropped the mic, which I've always seen as her putting a rather strong EXCLAMATION MARK at the end of her demonstration that hell, yeah, this little lady can SING!!
Going viral brings in the haters and internet trolls, as well as all the critics and doubters. She had already been bullied at school about the way she sang, sounding "like a boy" and dancing "weird" while she sang. Kids are lovely, the world 'round, eh?! Little monsters.
After that, Ms. Courtney kept trying to engage her fans through the pandemic, especially active on Instagram and Tiktok and CZcams. But officially, from the labels? Not a freakin' PEEP. From 14 to 18 this youngster did her best, telling her fans she'd been PROMISED she'd get to release HER MUSIC "Soon". For years. The audience estimated by CZcams views from both official videos and 'Reaction' videos and other simply copied videos on other channels, has been CONSERVATIVELY estimated at one BILLION views, implying a very large fan base. Most of which melted away as year after year, the promise came back "Soon." Ms. Courtney kept feeding snippets of original music and short Tiktok and CZcams performances of other covers from her bedroom or later an attic 'studio' she'd been able to put together with, possibly, some aid from 'labels', though that's purely an assumption. Then the word came that she was free and independent, and would be releasing HER MUSIC done HER WAY in 2023. Since February 2023, about 2-3 months after the 4th anniversary of her getting 'signed' by not one but two powerhouse 'labels', she has, on her own, on apparently a shoestring budget, with the very able assistance from far off Minneapolis of Mr. Kevin Bowe, as both co-writer and producer, released 4 songs to all streaming platforms, made a lyric video for each, and then within about 2 months or less, a PROFESSIONAL music video for each of those four very different songs. Apparently, this young lass is not done demonstrating her vocal versatility to the world of doubters and critics.
I, for one, would happily pay her to sing a page from my hometown telephone directory ('phone book' in USA vernacular)!! Unfortunately, I'm one of those afflicted with a champagne appetite on a beer budget (or is that a budget beer budget?).
OH!! THAT VOICE IS FREAKIN' PHENOMENAL!!
Just imagine going through that first year of pandemic with Ms. Courtney's debut album (the one she's trying to get us 1Q2024) and memories of her stellar performance live at Woodstock 50!! The amazement of the surviving old school rockers and R&B bands from back in the day, marveling at that little girl that knows how to do OLD SCHOOL music, with an OLD SOUL, and a voice far beyond her years! What a different world that could have been, for all of us who love the ROOTS of modern music. Yanno, us old codgers and gals who grew up with that music as the soundtrack to our own childhood and youth.

OK. Time to go viral, as all the stress and fear piled up on the shoulders of a young 13yo Ms. Courtney, about to face savage Simon and his Red Buzzer that kills dreams and potential careers after FAILING to win TVK.
First, watch this vid about the CONTEXT of all going on that day of blind audition, this is everything EXCEPT the audition, so it's background research preparing for actual reaction to performance. Watch her draw in on herself as the stressors and fear build: czcams.com/video/bMJZzDzweK4/video.html
THEN, do reaction, playing UNTIL SHE BOWS HER HEAD before music starts. SHUT YOUR EYES and keep them shut until she finishes singing. JUST LISTEN. Yes, she's really a 13yo little white girl, NOT a 65yo chain-smoking black R&B singer from the old days. Then go back to where you shut your eyes and both watch and listen from there. TOTALLY DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES, IMHO. So many get distracted by her dancing that they forget to LISTEN first and foremost. Worth it to LISTEN first, IMHO. czcams.com/video/lPWNBUtMNsQ/video.html
Next, 2nd live performance on AGT later in 2018 at 14yo. She magically transports us back to 1965 when James Brown had just introduced his hit "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag": czcams.com/video/GIM8Ok8d1fY/video.html
Then go back again to TVK-UK 2017 blind audition at 12yo singing Tina Turner's "Nutbush City Limits": czcams.com/video/aUgke-UydXo/video.html

As Angelina Jordan is for Jazz and R&B , Courtney Hadwin is for Rock and Funk. Her AGT performances, about same age as Angelina, is almost as remarkable but a bit more entertaining.

I know that Republic signed AJ and is doing a PHENOMENAL job of supporting and letting her be herself. Apparently Ms. Courtney's experience with 'labels' was QUITE different, at least after the first bit. We seriously NEED AJ and Courtney to collaborate on at least one or two songs, probably R&B is their best area of overlap. Or if you really want to risk the world, try putting them together with Daneliya Tuleshova. Wanna risk the GALAXY? Put all 3 together with Daneliya's friend from prior world competitions and fellow Kazakh, Dimash! I absolutely love the voices, vocal skills, control, breath control, and musical tastes of all of these 3Queens of GenZ Music! By age: Courtney (AJ+18mos), AJ, Daneliya (AJ-6mos).

@@givingin2G4Courtz I agree with the label Republic doing a great job not only with AJ but also The Warning, Greta Van Fleet, John Mellencamp, even Taylor Swift and Shania Twain and so many others. All of whom I believe they allowed them to be who they are, instead of trying so hard to commercialize them into some gen X and Gen Z artist.
I realize how great Dimash is ability and talent wise, but I just can not enjoy what he does entertainment wise. I do completely respect his musicianship. For me, he's too close to opera. Reminds me of when my uncle would constantly play opera music in his basement. lol

@@bertpainter8385 Ahh, come on Bert, best place to listen to opera is on a brisk windy fall day in your fav car/truck high-up in the empty overflow parking lot up the hill from a big enough local lake to have real sailboats. The sailors are out for the wind, everyone else is home for the game, or at the mall in gaggles of folks escaping the game, except for the four hikers out to hike round the lake or the two inveterate birdwatchers, intent on the latest migrations. Turn the volume up, and watch all the stares as four moms in minivans unleash hordes of sugar-infused extra-energetic littles on the playground off to the side on this terrace of the hillside. Best Sunday afternoon ever, watching boats sail, kids play, and moms getting a little time-out chatting with friends while someone's always watching the kids hard at play.

@@givingin2G4Courtz Nope! Ain't happening for this guy. No matter how picturesque, scenic and/or naturalistic the stage is set. I cringe when I watch/listen to Dimash. I've actually read comments about him from supposed opera singers who don't have the same impression of him as most of his fans do. But I can't take that seriously, just something I've seen by a few who have these claims. Can't say I actually don't like opera. I have heard some of the greats and was wowed by them. Just not a Dimash fan.😇
